Having gone through the recent cold snap where much of the UK witnessed snow and subsequent demand levels increased, the markets have not returned to their previous position despite the above average seasonal temperatures currently being experienced. Despite the now lower demand levels, supply shortages have are still apparent and concerns surrounding the oil supplies are continuing to support the market price. ANNUAL REVIEW The Electricity, Gas and Oil markets are all currently following an upward trend. The annual review shows electricity currently positioned at the comparable level to where it was a year ago, with Gas and Oil positioned at 13.64% and 11.95% up respectively. MONTHLY REVIEW The monthly prices show Electricity, Gas and Oil have broken their previous month on month trends with all 3 showing significant month on month increases above 6, 7 and 9% respectively. As previously highlighted much of this possible short-term upward trend has come off the back of the recent cold snap, a knee jerk reaction to the Iranian situation and supply shortages for gas. OTHER MARKET NEWS 1950’s lighting technology could be costing UK Industry £1.4 Billion a year A report entitled ‘The Light Bulb Moment’, produced by a company specialising in new light fittings and retrofit projects that promise to slash energy use, has revealed some interesting findings. The company having completed the research on UK Industrial and Manufacturing firms, profess to have identified what they believe could potentially be savings of up to £1.4 Billion a year by switching to new lighting technologies.
