Background theory

Definition on Energy Auditing• In principle, the term ‘energy audit’ is

well known and widely used. However, there is one problem which can easily lead to misunderstandings of the term. The fact is that the term ‘energy audit’ is only a general term like ‘a vehicle’. What actually meant by the term in an individual conversations can, in practical term, include an extremely wide range of different applications.

What is Energy Audit?

Energy (en-er-je od-et; noun) : The identification of economically-justified operating cost reduction opportunities associated with manufacturing and processing plant building, utility, and processing systems – most typically those opportunities resulting in significantly lowered electrical, natural gas, steam, water and sewer costs.

Page 6: Energy Audits. Objectives To be able to identify and analyze the energy consuming devises in a building. To make recommendations on energy saving step.

Energy Auditing• Levels of Energy Audit The level of Audit depends on the function and type of industry, the depth

to which final audit is required and potential and magnitude of cost reduction desired.

• Preliminary Audit  It consists of recording and analyzing energy use by cost center over a

fixed period of time. This can be performed by a quick walk through of the facilities and by analyzing utility and fuel bills. This stage takes 1-3 days depending on plant complexity.

• Mini AuditIt consists of identifying obvious energy wastage situation and recommending

measures through improved maintenance and operating procedures.

MethodologyFor the audit we have done the follow steps:

1. list all the electrical appliances in the room 2. count the number of each electrical equipment ( e.g. the number of the pc´s) 3. attach the wattage of the electrical equipment

and estimate the number of hours and the number of days they work every month.

4. records the data in the data sheet5. calculate the number of electricity units used by

each electrcity equipment.6. calculate the costs of the electricity consumption

of each appliance. (1 unit of electricity = 1kWh = 3 baht) (1 kW = 1,000 W)

In this way you can calculate the monthly energy consumption and costs of a building by summary the steps in the table.

The Purpose There are various reason and purpose of conducting energy

auditing in the site or building. The primary purpose is to gain benefit from the audit one way or another.

Those benefits can be group into the following categories  [1]:-Financial benefits: which reduce the operating cost. [2]:-Organizational benefits: which improve the market

image of private business, assists the administration of a building or industrial site to improve human comfort and productivity as well as process and product quality, enhance the quality of the energy profile based on the ISO 9000 series and enhance the structure of the energy or facility managements programs.

Computer and air-condition are necessary for use in the office and household but we can use lesser energy consuming appliances or devices such as fan.

We can use a fan because the fan can reduce the electric consumption.

• The energy conservation measure that would recommend for the use of the specific appliances for air-condition and computer .

• Turn air condition off when leave the room.• Clean filter of air condition regularly.• Set temperature at 25 Celsius.• Buy the air condition with a sticker of save- energy• appliance or “5” sticker.• Do not turn on air condition when the weather is • pleasant.• Close the window and the door when turn on air condition.• Do not use equipments which can release heat. e.g. even in • the air condition room.• Use ceiling fan. Using the reverse setting on your ceiling fan in the winter

time• circulates the hot air down to the room. In the summer, the fan has a

cooling effect.

The other way to conserve the energy is the conservation measures of air-condition.

- Turn off AC when leave the room.

- Set temperature at 25 ๐C.

- Do not turn on AC when the weather is

pleasant.

- Use the AC with a sticker of save-

energy appliance.

- Clean filter of AC regularly

All this provide some general energy conservation measure for your location to reduce the adverse impact caused by the use of too much energy.

1. Use the renewable energy for replacement of non- renewable

energy.

2. Use the save- energy appliance e. g. compact fluorescent light.

3. Drive a car at the speed about - 80 90 km/ hr.

4. Take public transportation e. g. bus,BTS.

Page 14: Energy Audits. Objectives To be able to identify and analyze the energy consuming devises in a building. To make recommendations on energy saving step.

5. Turn the car engine off when parking.

6. Check and maintain all equipments in good

condition.

7. Turn off all equipments when finish to use.

8. Unplug all equipments after turn them off.

9. Ride the bike all walk.
