The 2010 men’s golf team will

feature a number of new faces,

including first year head coach Steve

Coan. Coan will look to build off a

highly successful 2009 season, which

featured five top-10 finishes including

three tournament wins for the Gulls.

A trio of veteran captains will look to

lead the Blue and Green, as they wel-

come a large crop of freshmen that

will compete for a spot on a squad

that is the defending TCCC and ECAC

Champions.

Senior captain Andrew LaRocque

(Averill Park, N.Y.) had four top-10

finishes in 2009 including a first

place showing at the University of

New England Invitational, the best

finish of the season among Endicott

golfers. Endicott’s top golfer in 2009,

LaRocque also paced the Gulls with

individual second place finishes at

both the TCCC and ECAC Champion-

ships. Classmate Dustin Lockard

(Danville, N.H.) looks to add depth

and leadership to a squad that lost

five seniors to graduation.

Sophomore Jack Wyman (Fal-

mouth, Maine) had an outstanding

freshman campaign that featured

four top-10’s, highlighted by a third

place finish at the University of New

England Invitational, his first match

as a member of the Blue and Green.

The newcomer was also one of only

two Gulls to participate in every

contest in 2009. Wyman finished

2009 with a strong showing at the

Hampton Inn Classic, where he fin-

ished eighth in a field of 91 golfers at

the two-day event.

Sophomores Bryan Pierce (Read-

ing, Mass.), Miles Traiser (James-

town, N.D.) and Nate Kelly (Scituate,

Mass.) all return with one year of

experience from which to build upon

this season. Pierce will look to make

a splash after not competing in 2009

while Traiser competed in the sea-

son’s final tournament, the Hampton

Inn Classic. Several talented fresh-

men will bolster the squad that

finished outside the top-five in just

two contests in 2009.

The Gulls will begin their quest for

another successful season on the

links at a two-day tournament start-

ing on September 11 at the Bowdoin

Invitational in Brunswick, Maine. The

Blue and Green also look forward to

October 2-3 at Stow Country Club for

the ECAC Championships, an event

they hope to repeat as champions.

Finally, the fall season will close out

on October 21 for the TCCC Invita-

tional at the Essen Country Club in

Manchester as the Gulls aspire to

raise a third invitational banner for

the MacDonald Gymnasium.

Stephen CoanStephen Coan was named the head men’s and women’s golf coach in April of 2010.

Coan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Colby College, where he was a member of the Mules’ golf and lacrosse programs. He then went on to earn his M.B.A. in entrepreneurship from the Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College in 2008. .

The 2010 season will mark the fi rst head coaching position in Coan’s successful career. He brings 18 years of professional experience in consulting, marketing and business development, including nine years in the golf industry to the Endicott athletics Department. Coan worked for the Acushnet Company (Titleist, FootJoy & Cobra) from 1996-2005 marketing, selling and servicing the FootJoy prod-uct line, while establishing valuable connections with some of New England’s premier courses.

“I know the role athletics should play in the life of a student-athlete,” he said. “Athletics instill confi dence, enhance and develop col-laborative skills, and serve as a foundation for relationships that will last well into the future.”

In August of 2008 Coan established MS2 Consulting, a management consultant fi rm that specializes in marketing, sales and strat-egy. As the Founder and President, Coan has collaborated with startup ventures to evaluate business models, marketing initiatives, expenses, budgets, and capital requirements for expansion.

Coan will adopt a program philosophy that emphasizes the importance of the student-athlete. His men’s program will return nine members from the conference championship squad from a year ago, and he will also continue working with the upstart women’s club program.
