Let’s start at the TOP…

At the top of the form, you should see the following:

The Room # The Staff Members who

teach in that room Directions Equipment Inventory

At the bottom is a space for information about rooms where Staff Members or Department Chairs are responsible for confirming the inventory.

Types of Equipment…

There are 11 categories of equipment which MSDE requires the school to inventory:

Network Servers CPUs (desktop computers) and

Promethean ActivSlatesWACOM tablets

InterWrite Panel Monitors Digital Cameras (including camcorders) Document Cameras

Equipment in bold is the most likely to appear on a

teacher’s inventory.

CPUS and Laptops

A Central Processing Unit is your computer’s brain. In Baltimore County, since the majority of our computers are Dells, your CPU probably looks like one of the pictures below.

CPUs and Laptops (Serial Number) The Serial Number on your CPU can be found in one of the following

places on the computer’s case: The white BCPS sticker (marked “Dell Tag”) The back of the desktop computer (on a barcode sticker), or the bottom of a

laptop (thin barcoded strip) The left side (newer desktops) or inside the USB cover on the black Dell

Service Tag (older desktops)

The Serial Number of your computer can also be found by doing the following: Start the computer Right click on the “My Computer” icon Select “Properties” from the drop-down menu Select the “Computer Name” tab The Serial Number is digits #5-11 in the long “Full Computer name” (first 4

digits should be the room code, the last 13 should be “1572.bcps.org”

Monitors Your Monitor should be similar to the

image on the right.

Its serial number can be found in one of the following places:

The white BCPS sticker (right side or top)

On the back of the monitor, on a very tiny sticker, somewhere around the power cable.

Here-ish

LCD Projectors A LCD Projector is similar to a

monitor, and looks like the examples to the right.

You can usually find the Serial Number of your LCD projector in one of the following places:

On a sticker on the back (near the cable connections)

A sticker on the bottom (should be next to the model number of the projector)

NOTE: If your projector is mounted in your classroom, and you (therefore) cannot find the serial number, that’s fine—please be sure that a projector is listed on your room’s inventory, though!

Printers Printers will print their own

serial number.

If you don’t know how to print a “Configuration Page” for your printer… Go to HP’s support website Enter the Product

name/number Click on the “Manuals” tab,

and then the “User’s Guide” Search for the phrase

“configuration page,” and you should be able to find directions for how to print it.

If you can’t figure it out, email Hilary for assistance—some of them are a little tricky!

The printer’s serial number can also usually be found on the back or the

bottom.

Careful—you might want to unplug its network and power before

moving it!

Scanners

Your scanner probably looks like one of the examples to the right.

Its serial number can be found in one of the following places: A sticker near the

connection cables (back or side)

A sticker on the bottom

TurningPoint clickers TurningPoint clickers come in a

binder that should contain:

an Infrared Receiver, and 32 clickers (ResponseCards)

Please jot a note if your binder does not contain those items!

The Serial Number for the clickers is the same as the Receiver’s ID. The ID is on a miniscule sticker on the back of the Infrared Receiver.

The ID can also be found by plugging the Receiver into your computer—email Hilary if the sticker has fallen off and you need directions for finding the receiver ID inside the TurningPoint software.

InterWrite SchoolPads InterWrite schoolpads work the

same way wireless mice do.

Each SchoolPad requires a USB bluetooth adapter to communicate with desktop and laptop computers.

The Serial Number can be found on a sticker on the back of the pad. There are also Model Numbers and Device IDs—the only number that’s required for the Inventory is the Serial Number.

InterWrite Panel Monitors

InterWrite’s Panel monitors work are similar to Apple’s iPhone—a touchscreen monitor!

The serial number can be found on a sticker on the back of the monitor, usually near the connection cables.

Digital Cameras and Camcorders

As of 2007, all digital cameras and camcorders need to be added to the school’s inventory.

Please don’t hesitate to email Hilary if you’d like assistance going through your camera equipment—very few of the cameras in the building are in the current Inventory.

Document Cameras

Another new addition to our building and the MSDE inventory are document cameras. They are designed to project an image of whatever is placed under the lens to an LCD projector.

The Serial Number for document cameras is usually on the underside of the base.

Other Equipment

Rule of thumb: If it’s worth more than $250, and is “walk-able,” it’ll probably need to go on the Inventory.
