• Treaty Of Versailles – ends WWI and punishes Germany– Demilitarization – Germany can no longer have a large army (may have

100,000 soldiers only, no tanks, no artillery, no war planes.)– Colonies – Germany lost all of its overseas colonies (Cameroon went to

France, Namibia to South Africa, and Tanzania to Great Britain.)– Reparations – Germany is forced to pay $ to France for damage done in WWI

(Germany goes broke)• ***Germany is forced to take full blame for the war.• Did Germany deserve to be punished? Did the allies have a right to demand

so much from Ger? Should anyone else have been punished? What would have happened if Ger. Was not punished?

14 points- Pres. Wilson’s plan for peace in postwar Europe

• Self-Determination- create new European countries based on ethnicities

• Demilitarization- smaller Eur. Militaries– Why might France be skeptical of

reducing it’s Army?• Colonization- free colonial people in

Africa and Asia– Why would Fr and GB not want to free

their colonies?• Fair Peace- Don’t punish Germany

– What could happen if Ger. Is punished?

• League of nations- Int. organization for countries to talk and avoid war

• Unresolved Problems – that lead Germany to start WWII– Militarism – (preparing for war) still remains (France and Britain had many

weapons, Germany didn’t)– Imperialism – Asia and Africa were promised freedom during WWI (not

given to them)– Isolationism – US turns away from the problems in Europe

• *US was the only country to not to join the League of Nations, yet President (Wilson) imagined them. WHY?– US did not join the LofN b/c the Senate felt that the League of

Nations would drag the US into more European conflicts
