Mission & Goals

The U.S. Small Business Administration was created in 1953 as an independent agency of the federal government.

Our mission is to maintain and strengthen the nation’s economy by enabling the establishment and vitality of small businesses, and by assisting in the economic recovery of communities after disasters.

Types of SBA Loans

• From starting up or expanding your business to recovering from disasters, SBA loan programs are available to help your business succeed

Traditional Lending

• Provides loans up to $50,000 to help small businesses start up and expand. The average microloan is about $13,000Micro Loans

• Privately owned and operated SBICs use their own capital and funds borrowed from the SBA to provide financing to small businesses in the form of equity securities and long-term loans.

SBIC

• SBA has several loan programs specifically designed to help develop or expand trade and export activities- with loans ranging from $500,00 to $5 million. Export Loans

Finding Customers

• Assist small business with obtaining government contacts. Participants can receive sole-source contracts, up to a ceiling of $4 million for goods and services and $6.5 million for manufacturing

8(a) Business Development

Program

• The HUBZone program promotes economic development and employment growth in distressed areas by providing certified small businesses located in Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) Zones with preferential access to federal contracting opportunities

HUBZone

• Clusters are geographic concentrations of interconnected companies, suppliers, academic institutions, and service providers with a specific industry focus and additional economic incentives.

Cluster Initiatives

• The State Trade and Export Promotion Program: is a pilot export initiative to make matching-fund awards to states to assist small businesses to enter and succeed in the international marketplace.

Office of Entrepreneurial Education

• Small Business Development Centers- Provide a variety of free business consulting and low-cost training. SBDC

• a national network of more than 12,000 volunteer mentors with corporate and small business ownership experience who will provide insight in person or online

SCORE

• a national network of over 100 educational centers designed to assist entrepreneurs — especially women who are economically or socially disadvantaged — in starting and growing small businesses
