Timothy 1:3-8

I thank God, whom I

serve, as my forefa-

thers did, with a clear

conscience, as night

and day I constantly

remember you in my prayers. Recalling your

tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled

with joy. I have been reminded of your sincere

faith, which first lived in your grandmother

Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am

persuaded, now lives in you also. For this rea-

son I remind you to fan into flame the gift of

God, which is in you through the laying on of

my hands. For God did not give us a spirit of

timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of

self-disciplineSo do not be ashamed to testify

about our Lord, or ashamed of me his prison-

er. But join with me in suffering for the

gospel, by the power of God,

He is a newly graduate Bachelor of

Theology majoring in Missions under

the careful watch of his mentor and the

dean who is holding a doctorate in law and phi-

losophy. His heart and mind is full of visions

and dreams for his organization and for his

church. He is young and energetic though little

bit formal and short spoken guy. He used all his

theological and theoretical knowledge to deal

with all the challenge and problems of leading

pioneering missions called the Church of

Ephesus. But Pastor Timothy as they called

him realized later that it takes more than train-

ing and theological knowledge to lead a church.

His young age, a deteriorating health and the

huge responsibility is gradually fading his

vision, killing his passion and eating his ener-

gy.

Paul had to write his second letter to renew

Timothy’s vision for the church. It is good to

have spiritual leader who is sensitive enough to

feel the need to refresh our vision and help us

realign our discourage heart.

You may never be a pastor of a church like

Timothy. But if somewhere along the way, dis-

couragement finds its way to darken your

vision for whatever endeavor you are doing for

God, for your family or for your country, so

then this message is right also for you. You

need to refresh your vision and rejuvenate your

heart and mind. God’s purpose for the church is

also relevant to the purpose of our lives.

Let me give you an example. Angeline is a

nurse while her husband is a construction

worker. They are happy family as they are both

faithful and they love each other and they have

two kids. However, they have a dream and it is

to build their own house because they are just

renting an apartment. Angeline went abroad to

help her husband raise the money for their

dream house. But while working in one hospi-

tal in the Middle East, Angeline met David a

handsome Medical Technologist. It did not take

a long time and Angeline forgot all about her

dream house and a happy family. Her dream

had melted because of new found relationship

with David. One day, some of her friends

informed her husband in the Philippines about

her secret relationship and this cause her fami-

ly to break down. After few months, she

received a call that one of her kids died due to

Malaria. On that point Angeline realized her

mistake and decided to stop her wrong relation-

ship with David. She went to a church for coun-

seling. The pastor told her to renew her old

vision for her family. She would have to hum-

ble herself; ask forgiveness to her husband and

to build her family again. Amen!

I do not know on what stage your situation

might be today. But this New Year, I encourage

you to refresh your original vision for God and

for your family before it’s too late. Let us study

the word of encouragement of Paul to Timothy

to renew his vision for God.

God has a vision for the Church and it

should be also our own dream for our personal

lives as we grow closer in our relationship with

God.

1. A VISION TO GIVE GLORY TO GOD

IN WORSHIP

2nd Timothy 1:3 says, “I thank God Whom I

worship with a pure conscience, in the spirit of

my fathers, when without ceasing I remember

you night and day in my prayers. “ Amen!

Worship is more than attending a mass or a

worship service. Worship is a way of life. It is

how you conduct yourselves and behave even

in the secret of your own room as Paul said; I

worship with a pure conscience.

Worship is the very reason why God created

us with the capacity to choose between good

and evil. God made us with free Will so that

you can choose to love or disobey Him. You are

not a robot or a computer which will follow

whatever program was installed to it. God will

be happier to receive your love and obedience

if it is from your own decision to love and obey

him and this is what is called worship. Amen!

Declaration: We shall grow stronger through

Worship.

ethereal ballad "As We Lay," which was produced byRoger Troutman. Murdock started out singing gospelmusic in her native Toledo. Troutman hired her as a back-ground singer for his family's group Zapp, who had sever-al hits on Warner Brothers (or its Reprise imprint). Basedon this success, Troutman began recording tracks withMurdock and lead singer Sugarfoot of the Ohio Players, among others, at his Dayton-based recording studioTroutman Sound Labs.Murdock and Troutman's first charting single was a

Warner single issued as Roger (Featuring ShirleyMurdock), "Girl, Cut It Out," whichcharted at number 79 R&B in early1985. Murdock was signed to ElektraRecords with the pumping "No More,"which made it to number 24 R&B inearly 1986. Then came her signaturehit, "As We Lay," written by Zapp's

Larry Troutman and keyboardist Billy Beck (of the OhioPlayers). The tender, melancholy ballad made it to theR&B Top Ten and peaked at number 23 pop in 1986. now famous Rachet Movement, Bay Bay is an influen-tial DJ whose reach and connections far surpass any ofhis peers.

While many in the entertainment industry believe thatthe A&R position is no longer, Hollyhood Bay Baywears his badge as “Street A&R” with pride. A man ofthe people, Bay Bay has his hand on the pulse of the

masses, and a very discriminate ear when it comes to music, “I can tell in20 seconds if a song is a hit, just by the way the crowd in my club respondsto it,” he will tell you. In his capacity as “Street A&R” he is currently 3 for3, with a key role in presenting Hurricane Chris, the GS Boyz, and mostrecently Dorrough, and their music, to potential fans, record labels, andnow the world. So much more than just a dj and radio personality, TheStreet Ambassador Bay Bay, has played a major role in bringing the soundof his region, as well as the Rachet Movement to the masses. His creditabil-ity with his fans, and record labels is unlike anything ever seen before. In atime when djs are no longer breaking records and discovering new artist, but are instead competing with the would be talent for record deals,Hollywood Bay Bay is holding true to his craft. Through his companyAnWhat Entertainment, he works relentlessly in his cause to help theunderdog artist get the shot to succeed that they deserve. “I’m a fan of goodmusic, period. I don’t care what part of the world it comes from. If it’s hot,and the people are feeling it, I’m with it,” he so often states. Whether spin-ning an unknown artist on K104 in Dallas, where he is a premier radio per-sonality, calling the many label heads who trust him as a source for what’shot in the south, or introducing a new song to the thousands of people whocome from all over the country to experience his now famous weeklySaturday night events as he rocks the mic (where the crowd still claps andchants Aye Bay Bay when he enters the club), Bay Bay can be found dailyusing his many resources to serve his calling.

Being a man of the people, for the people allows Bay Bay to enjoy arespect that most in his industry will only dream to attain. He can be foundweekly in his hometown at KoKo Pelli’s, named the #1 night club in thecountry since he has become the weekly host, interacting with the people

who matter the most in the equation, the fans. He is working harder thanmost to leave a lasting legacy on the music industry, and to give theunknown a fair shot to realize their dreams, a blessing disguised as a mis-sion that he doesn’t take for granted.Eric Johnson currently serves in the Texas House of Representatives, rep-

Are we (USA) MovingToward a 3rd WorldCountry?

Everything around ushas all indications thatwe are moving very

fast in the directions ofbecoming a third world coun-

try. Day by day we see things happening in this coun-try that we have never seen before. We see all of ourfast-food establishments laying off Americans andreplacing them with Third World Country personnel.

All of our streets that are repaired now days arerepaired as if in another country. They are repaired thesame way third world country construction workersrepair streets in their home country. When our cityand state officials give out construction contracts, wefind that our officials give the most of these contractsto construction workers who migrated to this country, and more than likely they are undocumented person-nel. They get these contracts because they bid lowerthan we do. When a street is prepared in Dallas itlooks good until a rain comes along, and we see thatstreet come apart worse than it was at first. I can namemany streets that are wagon trails because of thisprocess, but I am just going to name one (1)Sunnyvale, and from Ann Arbor to Kiest Blvd., is likedriving over ditches and rocks.

Our hotels, major and minor have really overdonethemselves in hiring third world personnel. Theyhave hired chef cooks and food preparers who haveturned American foods into something withoutAmerican taste, and when it comes to service it getsworse. Every hotel in Dallas has an influx of thirdworld personnel that knows absolutely nothingabout service. I know what I am talking about, because I am a hotel person. I started working at theAdolphus Hotel as a roomservice waiter at the ageof 17 years old, and from there to Banquet waiter,Captain, front desk, and sales manager at the DallasGrand Hotel for many years before it closed forgood, because third world people purchased thehotel, and the rest is history. I was a trainer of wait-

ers on many occasions. I have never in my life wit-nessed such service in hotels as today. The servicewas so bad in one hotel I attended, I ask one waiter tosend the Matrodee to my table, and he asked me whatwas that. Serving the head table from the front of thetable is a no-no. These things really happen in ourhotels today, because of one reason and one reasononly, lower wages.

When we call TXU, AT&T, City Hall, or any otherlarge company for information, or assistance, it takes

forever to understand them, and for them to under-stand you. Why would a large company let personsoccupy this type of jobs, who cannot speak the lan-guage of this country? You can go to any other coun-try in the world and you will not find any country thatwill change its standards or language requirementsfor anybody from another country. We try to appeaseor satisfy people who migrate to our shores. When wedo that, you break your own rules and standards thathave governed you a lifetime.

A good example of that, look at our public schools, some of them are named after some person that wehave never heard of, nor are they in our history books, because they are from the country they came from, plus that person just might have been against freeeducation. You do know every country does not havefree education, as we know here in America. That’swhy everybody want’s to come here. If that’s notenough, we import foreign teachers to teach in ourpublic schools who cannot speak the language clear-ly, nor can they teach in this culture, because it is verydifferent from their own. How can a teacher fromanother culture teach a White American child, or aBlack American child? Yes they can, but not proper-ly. We have American teachers with Master Degreeswho cannot get a job. And on top of all this theseimported teachers receive a big bonus just to comehere.

This article is not written out of a prejudice stand-point, but a true fact. There is no way I could writeabout this from a prejudice standpoint because I am a“BLACK” person, and I do not have to go into detailwith that.

Now, last but not least, our country has set up bankloans for immigrants coming into this country. Theycan go to a bank and get a loan to set-up a business,no questions asked. We as citizens of this countryhave to go under the second degree just to apply forthe same kind of loan, and still not get the loan.

Gas stations will not hire Americans, or putAmericans over, or head-up a gas station. Out ofevery 100 gas stations, 80 of them are headed by mid-dle easterners. If all of these people from over therewhere our troops are fighting right now would ignitetheir gas stations at the same time, they could demol-ish America in a matter of minutes. Dear Dr. Hollie,

Ihave created a seriousproblem for my family, maybe too serious to write

about in an advice column; butI do appreciate the help thatyou give to others, and well,I’ve got to start somewhere. My husband and I have beenmarried 8 years. We have twokids and we’re both finally making awell enough living to keep us comfort-able and mostly worry-free. In past con-versations, we’ve discussed whether ornot we’d want more kids. I am absolute-ly positive that I don’t want anymore, butmy husband thinks we should have onemore. However, despite the precautionsI’ve taken, I found myself pregnantagain several months ago. Without myhusband’s knowledge, I had an abortion.Without anyone’s knowledge, actually, because I went alone and told no one.Now I am having serious regrets, but Iam too afraid to tell my husband. I don’tthink he could forgive me for this. But

the guilt is eating me up. Idon’t know what to do. I’vebeen thinking that maybe ifI get pregnant again, it willput everything right. Pleasetell me where I begin.Hidden Guilt

Dear Hidden Guilt,

I hope that you are a per-son of faith because it is what you willneed to bring you through this crisis. Iwould start by asking God for forgive-ness, followed by forgiving myself. Selfforgiveness is difficult but essential.Give yourself some time to process youremotions, and then approach your hus-band. The truth shall set you free.Another pregnancy will not replace theshame or the pain, healing should be youronly focus. Dr. Hollie is a Pastor and practicing psy-

chotherapist in the city. For questionsand comments, please write to [email protected].

Some form of theword "love" existsin scripture 543

times and is, conceiv-ably, one of the mostabused, excused, andmisused words in mod-

ern lingo today.I love your style. I

just loved that show. Ilove the way you fixyour hair! I love ice

cream. Oh, I love what you've done with thisroom! I love you in that dress. I love it whenyou make me laugh.

I LOVE YOU ... unless I get hurt ... just don'task me to help ... only when my needs comefirst ... though not if it means listening to you ...barring when I can take credit ... when it's con-venient ... if you love me ... as long as you dowhat I say ... but not your children ... unless youget in my way ... until I think of some goodjokes at your expense ... except you put on afew pounds ... omitting when friends are around... whenever it benefits me.

Let's make love. If you love me, you'll do it.Never mind that I'm sleeping with someoneelse, it's you I love. You're just stupid - youknow I love you.

I love you, but I won't forgive you. I'msorry for hurting you, again, but you know Ilove you. I told you once that I love you thatought to be enough. What do I have to say tomake you believe me ... I (bleep, bleep) loveyou, all right? If I say I love you, then I loveyou. I can see others and still love you. Whenyou measure up to my expectations, then I'lllove you.

Some speak most eloquent words of love.Fewer show it in their lives. But, whateverthey speak, actions speak even louder.

Surely, God must prefer to disassociate fromsituations where people misuse words thatdescribe His character. And, wherever He isn't,it isn't love.

It is impossible to love until we (know Godand) begin to love others as He loves us,because God is love and it's His Spirit that lovesthrough us (1 John 4:8, 12b-13).

Recorded inMatthew 6:6, isa suggestion

from our Lord thatgives us the time andplace of prayer. He said,“When thou prayest”!(When) suggest thatwhenever, or what timeit is when you pray, goto a secret place, or anenclosed place and pray

to thy Father, who is in secret and thy Father, who seethe in secret, shall reward thee openly. The secret place is a perfect place for the sin-ner to meet the Savior, and a place where thebroken heart can be mended; where the trou-bled mind can find peace. It is a place wherethe burdened can be lifted and the bound canbe loosed. It is certain that if we follow theLord’s suggestion, we will be better when wecome out than when we went in our prayercloset.

The first round of the NFLplay off ’s a re over. Whi lewatching the Denver -Pit tsburgh game go into over-t ime. The first play-off over-t ime under the new ru les .Denver won on the first play adeep in, to Danarius Thomas.

As the play developed and you could tell i t wasgoing to be a touchdown, I was about as happy as Icould be. Not a huge Bronco fan, but a hugeobserver of Tim Tebows play. I t was ironic that theplay that won the game was a 20yd. Deep in thatturned to an 80yd touchdown. That was somethingthat most naysayer ’s said Tim couldn’t do.

That pass and that victory was a victory for thelikes of Marlin Briscoe, Elridge Dickey, and a tonof African American Quarterbacks that were told

the same things that Tebow is being told rightnow.

Briscoe and Dickey were excellent quarterbacksthat were told they couldn’t play NFL pocket typequarterback. Along with a slew of other black qb’s

that had to play Wide receiver, defensive back etc.Every t ime Tebows win a game it’s a victory forguys l ike the late Eddie Robinson, and other blackcoaches that groomed guys to be quarterbacks onlyto see them get cut or have to play other posit ions.

When I hear the negatives about Tebow’s play Ithink about how tough i t could have been forBranch Rickey to convince Major league Baseballthat Jackie Robinson could play and be a benefit tothe league. A lot of the negative cri t icism comefrom black players. How soon we forget ?

Knowing how hard a t ime he had to get where heis Tom Brady refuse to speak negatively about TimTebow. Brady says “ he look pretty good to him”when asked about his thought on Tebow. CordellSteward when talking about Tebow, you wouldthink Cordell was l ike Troy Aikman a stand in thepocket quarterback, the way Cordell talks about

Tim. There’s a new day coming, i t cost to much to

have a guy stand in one spot and throw a football .Athletes are gett ing too athletic to protect him. TheMichael Vicks, Cam Newton, Vince Young TonyRomo, Aaron Rodger ’s Tim Tebow type can partial-ly protect themselves with there legs.

We’re gett ing ready to celebrate Martin LutherKings birthday and he gave his l ife for all people tohave the right to pursue any career they choose.Less than 40 yrs later we have African Americanstell ing other guy what they CAN”T do. Those areconversations we need to leave alone.

Do you realize how many prototypical quarter-backs that’s available to play Golf today becausethey lost yesterday. Tebow made one available him-self big Ben Rothlesburger.

Everything changes in our world, I t makes nodifference how fun you great grand father was ofthat beautiful horse he had Henry Ford changedthat. Football’s had so many metamorphoses, this isprobably another one. Get off that mule Mercedesis much faster.

mid-country cornfields of nowhere Nebraska. As soon as I could walk, my

father tried to make me a farmer by putting me to workseven days a week, gathering eggs ,etc... He kept himbusy so he would stay out of trouble. After getting sus-pended from high school four times, his father sent himout into the cruel world with three pieces of advice:

1.Trust in the Lord and do good by Him, 2.Never trustwhitey, and 3.See a doctor and get rid of it. Once I got

rid of it, I enrolled in a trade school in Minneapolis, graduated at the bot-tom of my class and became a DJ. At age 18 with no discipline, I was firedfrom my first radio job two days before Christmas. With no money and nohoney, I repeated this scenario many times over until I hit my first bigbreak. I met the general manager of WPEG Radio in Charlotte, NorthCarolina in 1988, and he gave me a job on an urban morning show, host-ed by Skip Murphy. Over the next 5 years, Skip Murphy taught me every-thing I needed to know about how to be a black man in the urban commu-nity. It’s where I learned to be black on the weekdays and white on theweekends. In 1993, KKDA hired Skip and I to replace Tom Joyner, and Imet my morning team family. After 13 years of working together, I wasfired yet again. I once had wealth, power and the love of many honies, andit all seemed to vanish. But there was one woman that found me irresistible, once the liquor shots kicked in. We eventually got married and had my son,“Boobie”, who I intend to shamelessly pimp out like Gary Coleman’s."

African-Americans have a long history of activism in America, from fighting for the right to vote to pushing for integrated publicspaces. Activists like Stokely Carmichael organized freedom rides,James Meredith fought to integrate blacks and whites at theUniversity of Mississippi, and Rosa Parks instigated theMontgomery Bus Boycott. These protests were often legal and non-violent, and made a powerful impact on civil rights in the U.S. Withthe help of activists like these—and many others—the country slow-ly worked to acknowledge the basic rights and contributions ofAfrican-Americans. Learn more about the many African-Americanactivists who fought against the odds in order to achieve equality.
