Preface

The Dean of the Evangelical Lutheran Theological Faculty of the

Comenius University in Bratislava is pleased to welcome you

to the international scientific symposium

500 Years of Reformation in Slovakia

September 12-15, 2017

On October 31, 2017 we shall commemorate the 500th year jubilee

of the Reformation. Considering the fact that the Reformation

quickly spread out to the territory of contemporary Slovakia and has

had significant influence on the spiritual, cultural, national and

societal life ever since, the Scientific Council of the Evangelical

Lutheran Theological Faculty of the Comenius University in

Bratislava (ELTF CU) on its meeting on March 27, 2015 decided that

this jubilee will be commemorated at our institution by an

international symposium with the following title: “500 Years of

Reformation in Slovakia”.

We chose the above mentioned title with the intent to invite a

wide spectrum of experts who would not be traditionally limited

only to the fields of church history, theology and history. We would

like to create an opportunity for all experts to present their research

pertaining to the nature, reception and the impact of the

Reformation on the spiritual, cultural, societal and artistic

development of Slovakia. This symposium is aimed to be

ecumenically open, academically rigorous and interdisciplinary.

203 and get off at the trolleybus stop “Červený kríž” [Red Cross] (hotel

Albrecht, request stop). Cross the crossroads to the “Slávičie údolie” street.

Then walk down the hill for approximately 5 minutes until you reach the

intersection with the Bartókova Street and then turn right. Now you should

be able to see the ELTF CU’s main entrance, dominated by a blue tower. The

main entrance is not used by the public, therefore proceed to the faculty’s

courtyard and use the entrance with the reception.
