This installation guide provides an overview of the Rack and PDP300DFT for the SpectralWave series, and describes the installation procedures and cabling methods.

Rack and Components

NEC provides two kinds of racks for SpectralWave product family, one is an IEC-compliant 19-inch rack, and the other is an ETSI-compliant rack. The dimensions of the two kinds of racks are: 2200 mm height, 600 mm width and 600 mm depth.

The IEC-compliant 19-inch rack is shown in Figure 1, and the ETSI-compliant rack is shown in Figure 2. Both kinds of racks have several optional components, including the Alarm LED, SAICEXT module, and MUTE/ACO button.

Installing the Rack

In addition to the information provided in this section, follow the manufacturer's instructions for drilling holes in the floor and installing the rack.

Drilling Holes in the Floor

Follow the anchor bolt manufacturer's instructions and these precautions when drilling anchor holes in the floor:

Before attempting to drill the mounting holes into the floor, set up the drilling rig according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Safety goggles, dust masks, and ear plugs must be worn by all installation personnel, including those in the vicinity of personnel operating the drill equipment.

To prevent personal injury, follow the manufacturer's instructions when using any power tools.

Dust from concrete floor is harmful to the equipment and wiring. Use a tarpaulin, cloth, or plastic sheeting to cover exposed equipment.

Carefully clean up any accumulated debris remaining from drilling holes before anchoring the rack.

Anchoring a Rack

After the rack is secured to the floor, verify that it is balanced and level. Racks that are not level may prevent side-by-side racks from seating properly on the floor and create a tipping hazard.

Installing Alarm LED

There are four LEDs on the top of the rack. They are: Power, Critical, Major and Minor. The LED colors and their corresponding meanings are listed in Table 1.

The installation procedure is as follows:

1 Remove the bracket that will hold the LEDs, as shown in Figure 3.

2 Fix the LEDs onto the bracket, as shown in Figure 4. The colors of the alarm LED indicators and their corresponding labels are listed in Table 1. Ensure that the LEDs are installed in the correct sequence.

Installing SAICEXT

Usually, the external alarms of the NE are sent to the rack through a SAICEXT module. Follow the steps below to connect the cables accordingly.

Or, the external alarms of the NE can be sent to the PDP300DFT. Please refer to the section Sending Alarm to PDP300DFT on page 36.

The procedures for SAIXEXT installation and external alarm sending are as follows:

1 The position of the SAICEXT box is as shown in Figure 5.

2 Loosen the screws and remove the box, as shown in Figure 6.

3 Install SAICEXT in the box and fix a buzzer onto the box, as shown in Figure 7.

4 Connect the LEDs to the corresponding port on SAICEXT, as shown in Figure 8 and Figure 9.

5 Connect the buzzer to the BUZZER port on SAICEXT.

6 Install the LEDs in place, as shown in Figure 10.

For overhead cabling, remove the left and right covers on the top of the rack for cabling, as shown in Figure 14. For under-floor cabling, remove the left and right covers at the bottom of the rack for cabling, as shown in Figure 15.

Function Descriptions

The PDP300DFT Power Distribution Panel is used for the -48 VDC power supply system, providing DC power supply and overload protection for the NEs. PDP300DFT has two -48 VDC inputs and eight -48 VDC outputs. Individual outputs are overload protected by replaceable circuit breakers.

PDP300DFT has a single replaceable alarm/control module. This module is used to indicate the PDP300DFT SPD (Surge Protection Device) status and monitors the over/under-voltage status. This module can also receive alarm status signals from the system and in turn displays these alarms on the front panel LED indicators. PDP300DFT also transmits its alarms to the rack for remote alarm management.

PDP300DFT has the following features:

Eight -48 VDC power output terminals, each with circuit breaker protection. Each output has a maximum current capacity of 50 A. The eight output terminals are in two groups, one is A1 - A4 and the other is B1 - B4.

Dual power input terminals (A and B), each with circuit breaker protected. Each input terminal has a maximum current capacity of 80A. Each input terminal corresponds to one output group. That is, input A corresponds to output terminals A1 - A4, and input B corresponds to output terminal B1 - B4 (Refer to Figure 17). When PDP300DFT provide power supply to an NE, the user must use two output terminals in different groups to achieve a 1+1 power input protection.

Receives alarms from NE or sends out alarms.

Audible and visual alarm status indicators for connected NEs and the PDP300DFT itself.

Mute/test buttons for turning off the audible alarm or testing the LEDs.

Two power inputs with over-voltage/under-voltage detection:

- -48 V mode: Input voltage range is -39.5 2% VDC to -60 VDC

- -60 V mode: Input voltage range is -52 VDC to -71.5 2% VDC

Note: The measurement error is ± 2%.

Front Panel

The front panel of the PDP300DFT has five LED indicators and a button, as shown in Figure 16. Table 2 describes the PDP300DFT LED and button functionalities.

LED OFF: No input power or the power input’s polarity is reversed.

LED Flash (0.3s interval): Over-voltage or under-voltage.

This LED indicates input A‘s power status.

The over/under voltage range depends on which of the two input voltage modes (-48 VDC or -60 VDC) is selectable via DIP switch SW2.

POWER B Green LED ON: Normal operation.

LED OFF: No input power or the power input’s polarity is reversed.

In the following two situations the LED will be ON:

The two power inputs polarities are reversed.

Critical alarm(s) are received from the NE.

MAJOR Red LED ON: Major NE alarm(s).

LED OFF: Normal operation.

The LED will be ON when major alarms are received from the NE.

MINOR Yellow LED ON: Minor NE alarm(s), or there is an SPD alarm

LED OFF: Normal operation.

In the following two situations the LED will be ON:

Minor alarms are received from the NE.

There is an SPD alarm.

ACO/TEST

Button

Clear alarm sound indication or test the LED indicators.

Press this button to temporarily turn OFF a current audible alarm indication.

Under normal operating conditions, when this button is pressed it will test the LED indicators.

Interface Descriptions

PDP300DFT input/output connection terminals are on the front of the PDP300DFT behind the front cover panel. All cables connecting to the PDP300DFT are routed from below. Figure 17 shows a front view of the PDP300DFT with the cover panel removed and Table 3 describes its interfaces.

PDP300DFT provides the following connection terminals:

Power input terminal A and B: Capable of connecting cable sizes from 12 mm2 to 16 mm2. Total current must not exceed 80 A (Total current of all output connections). To achieve 1+1 power input protection, power supply must be connected to both power input terminal A and B.

Power output terminal: Eight independent output terminals, each with a corresponding circuit breaker for overload protection. When providing power supply to an NE, two power output terminals in different group must be used to achieve 1+1 power input protection. For example, you can use output terminals A1&B1, A2&B2, A3&B3 or A4&B4 for an NE.

Alarm input connectors (M, S1, S2, and S3) (Refer to Figure 18): RJ-45 connectors which receive LED/buzzer control signals, connected with the external alarm output interfaces of the NE. The RJ-45 pin descriptions are shown in Table 4.

DIP Switch SW2 Settings

The DIP switch SW2 is located on the replaceable alarm/control module, as shown in Figure 19. To set SW2, the alarm/control module must be removed.

SW2 is used to set the monitoring point of over-voltage and under-voltage alarm. The settings are described in Table 5.

Installing PDP300DFT

The distance between the bottom of the PDP300DFT and the top of the mounting bar is 3U.

The installation procedure is as follows:

1 Take the air breaker out of the accessory package and install it on the PDP300DFT, as shown in Figure 20.

2 The device bracket has been installed in the rack, and usually does not require adjustment.

3 Install the mounting nuts for the PDP300DFT inside the rack, as shown in Figure 21. For the typical application, install the mounting nuts in the 4th and 9th holes on both sides of the mounting bar.

4 Slide the PDP300DFT into the rack from the front side and place it on the bracket (Figure 22), with the flange holes aligned with the corresponding square holes on the mounting bar.

5 Install four M6 screws, as shown in Figure 22.

6 Turn off all the air breakers of the PDP300DFT.

Use a 16 mm2 ground cable to connect the equipment room ground bar to the rack grounding point, one of the M10 screw on the top of the rack.

The installation procedure is as follows:

1 Terminate the ends of the 16 mm2 ground cable with M10 copper lugs, as shown in Figure 23.

2 Connect the ground cable from the equipment room ground bar to the rack top, as shown in Figure 24.

Power Supply to PDP300DFT

Use four 16 mm2 cables to supply power to the PDP300DFT.

The installation procedure is as follows:

1 Remove the front panel of the PDP300DFT, as shown in Figure 25.

2 Measure the resistance between the PDP300DFT RETURN and FGND, which must be less than 1 ohm.

3 Measure the resistance between the PDP300DFT -48 V input terminals and the RETURN/FGND terminals.

- With the circuit breaker open, the resistance must be infinite.

- With the circuit breaker closed, the resistance must be greater than 1000 ohm.

4 Open all the PDP300DFT circuit breakers.

5 Run the power cable from the PDP300DFT to the power supply equipment and cut the length. It is recommended that the user connect two power cables to both power input A and B terminals to achieve 1+1 power input protection.

6 Terminate the cables with double-M6 copper lugs in one end, as shown in Figure 26.

7 Label the four power cables. For example, label two cables with ’-48V-A’, ’-48V-B’, and the other two cables both with ’return’. The descriptions of the labels are shown in Table 7.

8 Insert the power cables to the PDP300DFT input terminals and tighten the screws on the terminals. Ensure that the connections are proper, as shown in Figure 27.

9 Lead the power cable upward along the back side of the mounting bar and then out of the rack from the top, as shown in Figure 28.

10 Lay the power cables along the cable trough to the power supply equipment. Use cable straps to bundle them in the cable trough.

11 Measure the power supply equipment output voltage at the terminals to which the PDP300DFT will be attached. When the PDP300DFT works in -48 V mode, the voltage should be between -39.5 V and -60 V.

12 Remove the fuses or open the breakers in the power supply equipment and connect the power cable to the power supply equipment.

13 Inspect the installation to ensure each cable is properly connected.

14 Insert the fuses or close the circuit breakers on the power supply equipment.

15 Close all the PDP300DFT input and output circuit breakers, measure the voltage on each of the PDP300DFT output terminals. When the PDP300DFT works in -48 V mode, the voltage should be between -39.5 V and -60 V.

16 Ensure the LED status is normal referring to Table 2.

17 Open all the PDP300DFT input and output circuit breakers. Remove the fuses or open the circuit breakers on the power supply equipment.

PDP300DFT Grounding

Use two 16 mm2 ground cables (yellow/green) to

Connect the rack grounding point to the PDP300DFT FGND terminal

Connect the rack grounding point to the mounting bar in the rack.

The installation procedure is as follows:

1 Terminate two 16 mm2 ground cables (yellow/green) with M10 and double-M6 copper lugs for each, as shown in Figure 29.

2 Take the grounding copper plates out of the accessory package, and connect the two ground cables (yellow/green) to the copper plates, as shown in Figure 30.

3 Install copper plates on the rack top, the copper plates that connect the ground cables with M10 copper lug must be installed close to the rack edge, as shown in Figure 31.

4 Connect the ground cable with M10 copper lug to the rack mounting bar, as shown in Figure 32.

Installing the Cable Blocks

The cable blocks are already installed in the Rack. Usually, it is not necessary to adjust the positions. If you want to adjust the position of the cable blocks, follow the steps below. Ignore this section if the rack does not use cable blocks.

1 Remove the cable block, as shown in Figure 34.

2 Determine the locations of the cable blocks.

3 Mount the cable block in the rack with the M6 screws as shown in Figure 35.

Cabling in the Rack

As required in practice, the engineers must bundle the cables according to their types (power cables, optical fibers, and service cables, etc.) inside the rack to keep the cabling tidy. All cables must be laid and bundled through the cable blocks.

Figure 36 is an example of SpectralWave MN5200 cabling in the rack.

Sending Alarm to SAICEXT

The external alarm from the NE can be sent to the SAICEXT module, thus the LEDs in the rack will be lit when an alarm occurs.

If several pieces of NEs need to send alarms to SAICEXT, the alarm cable can be connected to the A, B, C and D connectors. One interface is for one NE, so up to four NEs can send alarms to SAICEXT.

The alarm cable is an Ethernet cable. The installation procedure is as follows:

1 Label an Ethernet cable for sending the alarms.

2 Connect the cable from external alarm interface of the NE to the A port on SAICEXT along the cable blocks, as shown in Figure 39.

3 If more NEs need to send alarms to SAICEXT, the alarm cables can be connected to the B, C or D port on SAICEXT. Up to four NEs can send alarms to SAICEXT.

Sending Alarm to PDP300DFT

The external alarm from the NE can be sent to the PDP300DFT instead of the SAICEXT module, thus the LEDs in the PDP300DFT will be lit when an alarm occurs.

If several NEs need to send alarms to the PDP300DFT, the alarm cable can be connected to the M, S1, S2 and S3 connectors. Each interface is for one NE, so up to four NEs can send alarms to the PDP300DFT.

The alarm cable is an Ethernet cable. The installation procedure is as follows:

1 Label an Ethernet cable for sending the alarms.

2 Connect the Ethernet cable to the external alarm interface of the NE.

3 Lead in the cable from the bottom of the PDP300DFT and connect it to the M connector, and then bundle it along the top of the PDP300DFT as shown in Figure 40.
