    DESCRIPTION

    Grinder

The grinder consists of the following parts: A xed section. Grinder motor.

    Feed mechanism.

The xed section houses a motor for thebandsaw blade feed and three folding supportarms, which form a stable platform for thegrinder set-up. The support arms also secure thebandsaw blade while grinding.

The moving section houses the motor, thegrinding disc, and arms for its suspension. Themoving section can be adjusted to grind threedifferent cutting angles: 7, 10, and 14.

The feed mechanism consists of a cam disc andlevers. The cam disc is driven by the feed motoron the xed section. The cam disc actuates thetwo levers, which in part feed the bandsaw bladeforwards and in part lower and lift the grindingdisc while grinding.

    MAINTENANCE

    Bandsaw Blade

WARNING!The bandsaw blade is sharpand can cause cuts. Warning forpersonal injury. Wear protectivegloves whenever you handle thebandsaw blade.

The bandsaw blade should be set andsharpened regularly to give optimal performance.During normal sawing of most species of woodthis should be done at intervals of approx. 2hours of effective cutting time. Effective cuttingtime only refers to the time that the bandsaw

blade actually works. The bandsaw blade shouldbe sharpened more frequently when cuttingthose species of wood with a high sand content.DismantlingDismantle the bandsaw blade as follows:1. Remove the guards over the band wheels.

    2. Loosen the right-hand band wheel bycranking about 10 turns anticlockwise.

    3. Carefully remove the bandsaw blade.

Cleaning and InspectionClean sawdust and any coating from the bandsawblade. Now check whether there are any cracks

    (A) in the gullets. Small cracks can be groundaway when sharpening the bandsaw blade. If thecracks are so large that they cannot be groundaway, the bandsaw blade should be discarded.Cracks in the gullets are the most commoncause of bandsaw blade breakage. Thebandsaw blade can be ground to a minimumwidth of 24 mm. See FIG. 76. A new bandsawblade is 32 mm wide. The bandsaw blade shouldbe discarded once any part of it reaches theminimum width.

After sharpening, the bandsaw blade shouldbe set as described in the instructions on theprevious page.

The more accurate the sharpening, the straighterand smoother the bandsaw blade runs whencutting the log.

RadiiThe radius in the area (A) should be 1-3 mm.A radius under 1 mm increases the risk ofcracking.A radius over 3 mm means that the chips are notbroken.

AnglesThe clearance angle should be 10-12 and the

cutting angle (F) varies depending on the speciesof wood as follows:

Place the grinder on a table and fold out thesupport arms. The central support arm can beanchored to the table at G to give a more stableset-up.

Connect the cables to a 12-volt power source. The power source can be a battery or a batterycharger. The red cable is connected to + and the black to -.If the cables are interchanged, the grinding disc

and feed motor will run in the wrong direction.

WARNING!Do not store petrol in the vicin-ity of the grinder. Sparks from

the grinding disc or the electri-cal connection can ignite.

    MAINTENANCE

    Sharpening with the Grinder

    WARNING!

The bandsaw blade is sharpand can cause cuts. Warningfor personal injury. Wear pro-tective gloves whenever youhandle the bandsaw blade!

The grinder can be used on bandsaw bladeswith a pitch of 16 - 32 mm. The grinding disc mayneed to be redressed for other tooth proles.

    1. Loosen the knob (43) and set the correctcutting angle (F). See FIG. 83.

    2. Tighten the knob (43).

    3. Check that the grinding disc has the correctprole. See the templates at the rear of the

binder. The templates can be cut out andplaced against the grinding disc.

CAUTION! A new grinding disc must beshaped before use. Use the suppliedwhetstone (52).

    4. Fold up the grinding motor (45), hold up thefeed link (H), and insert the bandsaw blade. The bandsaw blade should lie in the cut-outsin the three support arms.

    5. Check that the bandsaw blade rests onthe two supports (I). The support arms canbe bent if the bandsaw blade does not lieagainst both the supports.

    6. Adjust the bolt (J) so that the bandsaw bladeruns freely and at the same time is braced.

    MAINTENANCE

WARNING!Risk of the grinding disc com-ing loose and causing personalinjury. Ensure the power supplyis connected so that the grind-ing disc rotates in the right

direction, that is, sharpening isperformed downwards-back-wards.

    7. Start the feed with the power switch (49).The feed cam wheel (K) should rotateanticlockwise. If this is not the case, theconnection cables have been interchanged.

    8. Stop the feed and check where the grindingdisc goes down against the bandsaw blade.

    9. Adjust the knob (L) until the grinding discjust touches the inside of the saw tooth(M). Points 7 and 8 above may need to berepeated.

    10. Insert the lifter (N) in the appropriate hole inthe lever (O) and start the feed. Adjust theknob (P) until the grinding disc just touchesthe entire tooth valley while fed.

    11. Stop the feed and turn both knobs 1/2 turnanticlockwise.

CAUTION! Do not grind to heavily. This candestroy the hardening of the teeth. Eachturn of the adjuster screws corresponds toa grinding depth of 0.75 mm. The maximumgrinding depth per sharpening is 0.1-0.2mm. If the bandsaw blade is very worn, grindseveral times.

WARNING!Risk of damaging the grindingdisc or bandsaw blade, whichcan result in personal injury. The grinding disc must not berunning during the procedureset out in points 8-11 below.
