SEASON 2012 FINALLY KICKS OFF Emu Plains JRLFC officially launched the 2012 season at Penrith Paceway on Thursday 19th April with an action packed night. Many of our club sponsors were also race sponsors on the night, presenting the sashes to the winning horse, trainer and driver. Thanks to all the players, officials, sponsors and supporters who attended the night. After a false start due to rain washing out the fields in Round 1, the 2012 season kicked off on Saturday 27th April with Emu Plains playing an away round. The weekend of 5th and 6th May saw us play our first home game with more than 30 games over the weekend. Let's hope for more beautiful weather as the season rolls on so we can stay on the fields enjoying our footy.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK In 2012, we will award two Players of the Week awards. The Outback Steakhouse Player of the week will receive a $30 voucher to be redeemed at the restaurant while the Property Central Player of the Week will receive a football and feature in the Penrith Press. Look out for the announcements each week on our website and Facebook page.

A NIGHT ON THE FIELDS Our first Night on the Fields took place on Saturday 28th April and what a fantastic night it was. There were glow mouth guards and mohawks, a footy jumping castle, plenty of sausage sandwiches and one awesome band.

Local band, The Reson8rs warmed up the crowd as the fog rolled in and the kids had a ball dancing away in front of the stage.

Thanks to everyone who attended and raised funds for our club and thank you to everyone who helped out setting up, in the canteen or on the BBQ and in cleaning up. A Night on the Fields in 2013 promises to be bigger, better and hopefully early in March before daylight savings ends.

FEATURED ROUND 2 MATCH REPORTS Under 11/2s (by Colin Marsh): The Emu Plains under 11-2’s team traveled to take on St Pats. From the opening kick off the boys jumped into their defensive ground work and forced St Pats to turn the ball over. After an attacking raid that had the ball moving side to side, our 1st try went to Kobi Newell. Trent Harding, Lachlan Flack and Angelo Rositano paved ways to get their team into scoring position. Andrew Brennan carved up the field to score our 2nd try. The 3rd try came from a penalty tap that saw Connor Flack score an individual effort from 30 metres out. The boys went to the break 18- nil up. The 2nd half saw Tom Lewis, James Anderson and Jack Tyrell dominate up the middle, with both Jack and James scoring tries. Connor bagged another 2 tries giving him a hat-trick. Bryon Thompson cut and weaved just coming up short. Jesse Astill made his team debut, running and tackling hard. Ethan Marsh again ran his consistent no nonsense #7 role leading the team forward and defending the centre. It was a great defensive game by all and in the end the team won 38-10. Well played boys and all the best for the coming season.

Under 8/1s (by Megan Wright): With the rain washing out the first game of the season and having a bye 2nd round the under 8/1's were eager to play a game of footy.  A "friendly" game was organised with St Mary's last Saturday and the boys had a big confidence boost as they WON the game – this was fantastic for them as unfortunately they didn't get any wins on the board last year so a big congratulations boys, you all played well and put into practice what you have been learning at training.

Under 6/1s (by Matt Newton): Well what a great first game last Saturday. After not being sure how the boys would go in Division 1, I was very happy with the team's performance. Kye was awarded the 3 points and was out man of the match with a great defensive and attacking performance. Rhys was awarded 2 points for his never-day-die chases of players that broke the line and Corey was awarded 1 point for his all-round effort. As I said, the boys played well above my expectations and Club President Peter Foster who came down to watch the boys, said he was impressed with the way the boys played.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

PHONE RECYCLING FUNDRAISER

Thanks to one of our Emu Mums, Joanne Taylor, we will soon have a FoneRaiser mobile phone recycling box at the bottom canteen and a satchel in the top canteen. By donating your old mobile phones, you can raise money for our club and do your bit for the environment as foneraiser.com.au will recycle the phones that are donated. So dig deep for those old brick phones you have lying around and bring them to training next time.

Round 2 - Connor Stewart from the 15/1s

Round 3 - Nick Klower from the 17/2s

GREAT SPORTSMANSHIP It's was great to see many of our teams at our first home game clapping on the next Emu team to take the field. Better yet it was heartwarming to see those teams like the U6/5s who played at Windsor in the first round, clap on the Emu team that followed their game. We have a home and away draw this year which means when we play at home on a Saturday, every game will be an Emu game so be sure to show some Emu spirit and clap on the next team. If you're lucky enough to have an Emu team follow you on the same field in an away match be sure to show their opposition some club unity by forming a guard of honour as they run onto the field. If our little 4-year-olds in the 6/5s can do it then everyone from U6s to A-Grade can do it too.

JUNIOR RELAY TEAM On a chilly night at Penrith Park on Saturday 5th May, our junior relay team competed in the first round of the Penrith Junior League Relay during half time of the Under 20s match. Even though we ran well and came third, unfortunately we don't go through to the next round. Congratulations to all the boys on their efforts especially with the short notice they received on when they'd be running.

BBQ DUTY FOR ALL TEAMS Pease remember that BBQ duty is compulsory for all teams at home games. E a c h t e a m m u s t p r o v i d e t w o representatives and it's essential they arrive promptly. It gets extremely busy and if one person doesn't turn up it let's the whole club down. You won't miss your child's game as you are able to leave five minutes before kickoff.
