The NSW Department of Education and Training 2011 believe that teachers need to have a deep understanding of the quality teaching

framework. This includes intellectual quality: engaging in higher order thinking and communicate about what they are learning. Quality learning

environment: creates a classroom where students and teachers work productively in an environment clearly focused on learning and

significance: making learning meaningful and important to students

Teachers need to know the syllabus because Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) is one of the key learning areas

in the NSW primary curriculum. The syllabus is concerned with supporting the development of the student as a whole person. Its

implementation has the potential to contribute to improved and ongoing quality of life for all individuals within the community.
