The challenge is as old as human history:

how do we avoid projecting our own needs

and norms onto other individuals and

communities?

New high- and low-tech tools are creating

cutting-edge innovations to help us

communicate more effectively with each other

about our needs, wants, and emotional states,

despite extremely divergent daily experiences

and local contexts.

Players suggested that identifying social needs by monitoring expressions

of fear and anxiety might lead us directly to those most in need.

Simplifying electroencephalography technologies will allow us to do so in real time,

and prototypes are in the works. These technologies have the added benefit of

promoting local community mapping. As part of this story, players discussed how

understanding human emotions—and how to tap into them—is key to solving

questions of motivation and finding locally relevant solutions.

Knowledge is rarely enough to spark change. People have to want change. It takes emotion to bring knowledge to a boil. Good stories matter

Local community is best in mapping - experts come to propose some solutions in collaboration seems best model to me.

The Shippo Tail, still in prototype phase, is an animal tail that connects to your own electroencephalography readings so that it can move in accordance to your mood. The Shippo Tail will also connect to location-based maps allowing us to build a collective understanding of our reactions to our surroundings.

Emography

Emography is a German project that analyzes twitter-data from around the world to chart regional emotional states in the hopes of highlighting emotional responses to, for example, crime or the lack of crime.

Affdex reads emotional responses through facial-recognition technology.

Q sensor Q sensor seamlessly measures

emotional responses through electrodermal sensors. It has

applications in such diverse areas as treatment of autism, classroom

learning, and psychotherapy.
