+Article Review Cont.

Many wnba players have lives outside of basketball. Rather it be relationships, families, or even children. They have to manage a full time traveling career while trying to manage a family.

+Emotion

Emotion in the workplace can be handled in many different ways. It also can be portrayed in many different ways.

WNBA players often deal with a lot and have to fake it to make it in the industry in order to play the role and support the mission of the organization

+Emotion in WNBA

The WNBA shows a lot of emotion rather it be on the court during a game, relationships, in the community, or even in the recruiting process.

Emotion can occur through or for many different reasons.

-injuries

-family issues

-altercations

+Tearing ACL

For example tearing your ACL is a big injury in any sport and it can really bring you down just when you start to feel like your at your best. Through that rough time support from from your teammates is really important & just getting the feeling that someone cares.

+Britney Griner Vs. Glory Johnson

The two WNBA superstars got married and were involved in domestic violence along with other problems. The WNBA took action while these two stars had to control public and private life in a professional matter with media involved

+Resolve?

After the Griner/Johnson altercation, the wnba took a professional approach but they also showed their empathetic concern and support in helping them get through their hard times.

They publicly spoke and defended them.

+Appraisal

Although women, basketball, and families can be drama filled there are positive outcomes and these women are thanked for it.

This emotion is called appraisal centered coping.

+Appraisal

Winning a championship, celebration of team events, and even life can be something positive that encourages these women to go to work everyday.

+WNBA Connections

A former WNBA player wanted to become a college coach , the WNBA helped make that possible through the support and culture.

Page 13: Emotion

+Connections

Through connections the WNBA is showing its emotional support by putting these players on a platform and helping them better themselves.

+Relationships

Through basketball many people gain lifetime friends, family and support.

This allows people to have a support system where they know they always have someone in their corner.

Page 15: Emotion

+Relationships/Conflict

This can also become a problem and finding a way to deal with these things may cause conflict.

I feel they handle it with support through human relations.

Page 16: Emotion

+Teamwork

“ coming together is the beginning keeping together is progress , working together is success , teamwork makes the dream work..”

Page 17: Emotion

+Teamwork

Teamwork exemplifies the traditional workplace of communication and working together for a common goal. But also using human relations to support one another.

+Coaches vs. Team

Coaches may encounter problems with staff and stress with players. They take a interesting approach when dealing with emotions.

I feel they take a compromising approach in order to keep moving and avoid dwelling on problems.

Page 19: Emotion

+Support

Emotional and mental support is very prevalent in the WNBA. Over time your teammates and coaches become your family.

Page 20: Emotion

+Coping with emotion

The three main ways of coping with emotion are problem, emotion, and appraisal centered.

The WNBA portrays all of them. It is shown that they deal with hardships but always have each others back.
