20. Research focus: My focus is on minimally invasive treatment of thoracic dissections and aneurysm. I have been very active clinically having to cover two hospitals and averaging about 650 operative procedures/year. This has helped me become the site principal investigator for over 15 new device trials and most recently I was appointed the national PI for a muticenter thoracic stent graft study (Medtronic) and a new muticenter abdominal aortic aneurysm study (LeMaitre). My future plans include independent funding for studies initiated by me (current PI status is for industry sponsored studies) leading to a seed grant and possibly a NIH grant. I have recently submitted my first research proposal for independent funding. I have also initiated combined device development work with Georgia Tech and hope to be able to contribute in the form of new and innovative devices to treat the growing threat of vascular disease. I would also be moving to Emory full-time (I currently split my time between Emory and the Atlanta VAMC) that would allow little more time for involvement in local committees at Emory and The School of Medicine. 21.
