// CASTfrom earthenware to raw clayDesigning the Museum of Prehistoric Technologyfor the Experimental Archaeology Centre Torino.

The Museum of Prehistoric Technology rise from the desire of the Center for Experimental Archaeology Torino to have a place to discuss results and prod-ucts of the research, and to consolidate education and popularization. The idea of matching a Guest House and a Museum shoot for the strengthening the role of the Park in the wide network of cultural tourism related to archaeol-ogy, and in the strategies for local development.

The use of raw clay and wood structure is the result of the encounter between the different demands of form and function: actually, this technology is a sug-gestion of ancient building techniques, improved by innovation and integrated by renewable energy supply devices.

Experimental archaeology is a science that combines historical and scientifi c subjects to verify the assumptions made by pre-history scholars through physical test.It’s a practical discipline that studies and duplicates in a con-trolled manner materials found in archaeological excavations; so it supports and complements traditional archaeology, mak-ing the method for verifying the theories about the socio-eco-nomic organization of the past.

// via Millio, 42password > sustainabilityJunior High School.

The design of the new school comes from a strict defi nition of environmen-tal units, virtual space elements, relations between them and the input and output system. This is superimposed on the bioclimatic matrix, the result of a consideration on shadows created by the surrounding buildings at different times of the year and on wind trails.

After defi ning climate resources, existing limits and design requirements, it’s possible to identify those active and passive strategies for thermal control.

// ex-ASSAurban renovationSocial housing project.

The work renovates this area by creating a new pole of attraction and the restauration of the old power station.

The project includes a range of subsidized housing estate in matched with other services to ensure life at every hour: commercial and offi ce buildings, a kindergarten, a sports center / palahockey and a cultural center / cinema / theater. Green areas and paths are linked strategically; moreover the new area is linked with the surrounding tissue, and with the historical city centre with a pedestrian riverfront promenade.

// Cabiriatorino fi lm centreRenovation of Palazzo del Lavoro area.

The basic idea is to create a space for activities related to cinema. The creation of a new focus of interest in the Italy ‘61 area completes business, music, exhi-bitions and trade fairs at Lingotto and sport shows at Oval and at Palavela.

The project’s fi l rouge is a new pedestrian walkway: it passes through the build-ing and connects the park, the river Po, the ferry station and the garden in corso Maroncelli. The big park is maintained and redesigned on a square grid, that draws pedestrian paths; this grid originates from Palazzo del Lavoro’s roof. The space inside Pier Luigi Nervi’s building was reorganized around a covered square; it contains several activities: the Torino Film Festival base, a branch of the Museum of Cinema, the Film Restoration Laboratory, the Te-atro Nuovo high school, an hotel.A central one-storey core hosts three cinemas and a raised multifunctional plaza, that is equipped with two projection screens used during festivals.

// 1, 2, 3oiset voilà le tronc à surpriseWooden mobil home.Developed by the design team Les Rongeurs.

The mobil home is a container made entirely of wood. You can load it onto a truck and move it where you want; by a simple reversal of the four lateral openings before the exclamation «et voila!», the module opens and invites you to discover les surprises contained in its cavity tree.

The tronc lends itself to innovatate and replace some objects (metal contain-ers, plastic modules, emergency tents, bungalows) putting them on the market in a sustainable version, characterized by a reduced environmental impact and more comfort for users.
