This is my doodle board for the design brief ‘Illustrated people’ that expresses my personality through text and visuals. I have repeated the pattern to show uses of different scales and to

express my enjoyment and interests in specific aspects of my personality. I have used the media of water colour and fineliner for this piece of work. The text featured are famous quotes from

fashion icons and quotes that relate to my character.

Page 3: Emma Brown Portfolio

These are my design ideas were inspired by the assignment, ‘Childs Play’, in which we were required to develop a garment based on an

element of our childhood. I focused on the theme of clowns, concentrating on the structure, colours and shaping of the pieces.

The digital drawing on the

left was influenced by my

design brief ‘Illustrated

People’. This was an observational image gleaned

from my research into street style in Liverpool City Centre. I focused on showing the details of the

clothing and how there was a

commonality in all three friends

appearance.

This digital drawing on the right focused on

linking the digital drawing effect to the

grungy style of the girl. I did

this by not touching the

black lines with colour and creating a

‘messy’ effect.

These are my design ideas inspired by the brief ‘Illustrated People’. I collaged newspaper to create a range of hair styles and

used fine liner to produce clean, professional and detailed drawings of the designs. I intentionally left the illustrations devoid of colour/texture as the fabrics were to be given by the

construction tutor.

This is the working sketch of my final design idea for my brief ‘Illustrated People’. I produced this design using Adobe

Illustrator and drew both the front and back of each garment as well as all the top stitching.

This is my designer research for my brief ‘My Collection’. I researched into a range of designers and presented it creatively on an A1 sheet of paper. I used the techniques illustration and collage

to bring excitement to the research. I also enlarged the fashion designers logos using fineliner.

Page 11: Emma Brown Portfolio

This is my influence board for my design brief ‘My Collection’. I wanted to create a range of boards that had a clip board look to them. To do this used masking tap on the corner of the images, as well as board pins. I also collaged key words onto the board that represented my inspiration.

Page 12: Emma Brown Portfolio

This is my mood and concept board for my brief ‘My Collection’. I

printed out my research onto photo paper as well as normal white

paper. I wanted to create a clipboard effect like my influence

board, so I incorporated masking tap and board pins.

Page 13: Emma Brown Portfolio

This is my texture and colour board for the design brief ‘My

Collection’. This board represents the colour pallets I

will use for my collection, that consist of; grey, black,

red and white. The photographs I have used on this board show the fabrics, movement and feel

that I wish to feature.

Page 14: Emma Brown Portfolio

This is my target market board for the design brief

‘My Collection’. I have included

photographs of locations,

interest, a character , and

accessories that represent the

market I am aiming my final

collection at. I have also featured

key words that relate to the target market

character I have created.

Page 15: Emma Brown Portfolio

This is my photoshoot for the brief ‘My Collection’. I used different effects on the photographs such as; overlaying, black and white and diffuse on Adobe Photoshop. These

effects emphasized my theme ‘A Splendid Chap’

Page 16: Emma Brown Portfolio
Page 17: Emma Brown Portfolio

This piece of work is my fabric prints of my primary(photoshoot) and secondary research for the brief ‘My Collection’. I have enlarged the models head from my photoshoot and illustrated them onto the fabric using a

domestic sewing machine.

Page 18: Emma Brown Portfolio

These are some of my design developments for ‘My Collection’ I have developed four outfits four times doing small adaptations each time.

I have focused on tailoring, masculinity, structure and the influence of teddy boys.

Page 19: Emma Brown Portfolio

Here I have created tow fashion illustrations for i-D magazine. I have used the media of computer

aided design, fineliner and collage to produce the

illustrations. I researched into fashion illustrations featured

within i-D magazine and used that inspiration to create youthful,

cultural and unique illustrations. I have focused on emotion for the left hand side

illustration, focusing on confusion about androgyny linking to my theme ‘A Splendid Chap’.

The right hand side illustration features i-D’s signature eye

covering.

Page 20: Emma Brown Portfolio

I have produced two fashion illustration

inspired by Love magazine. I created quirky youthful

illustrations that represented the magazine

and the illustrations that are featured within it. I used the media of collage

and fineliner. I used these illustrations to

present the clothing within my range plan.

Page 21: Emma Brown Portfolio

These are two fashion illustrations that I have produced for Vogue magazine. I used the media of fineliner and

watercolour to produce illustrations that present clothing from my range plan. I created fashion illustrations that

look more feminine and human like than the ones for Love and i-D magazine. I used the media of watercolour after

researching into fashion illustrations featured in Vogue and noticing that a wide range of illustrations within the

magazine featured this media.

Page 22: Emma Brown Portfolio

This is my final line-up for my collection ‘A Splendid Chap’ inspired by gentlemen's dress and androgyny. I have included my colour pallet, technical drawings and design ideas. I used the software Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to produce this piece, as well as fineliner as I

scanned in my design ideas.
