Where I went!
• For my Work experience I did stage management with the Royal Ballet at the Royal Opera House.
• The Royal Opera House is in Covent Garden in London.
• Each day I had to get the bus and the tube to and from work.
When I started and finished!• Monday – 10.00 till 5.00• Tuesday – 11.30 till 5.00• Wednesday – 9.45 till 3.30• Thursday – 10.00 till 5.00• Friday – 10.00 till 6.30
• When I was working I had many 20 minute breaks and I had an hour for my lunch.
What I Did!
• When I was there the main production was Mayerling and throughout the week I had to prepare for rehearsals.
• For example I had to collect all the props and make sure that they were in the right places for the dancers when they were performing.
Mayerling • This true story of the mysterious murder-suicide of Crown
Prince Rudolf, heir to the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and his teenage mistress was somewhat in vogue when Kenneth MacMillan created this ballet in the 1970s.
• MacMillan was attracted by its themes of lust and brutality and set his choreography to Liszt’s brooding music full of nervous undercurrents.
• His take on the handsome prince is stark: Rudolf’s unhappy marriage, dysfunctional family, drug and sex addictions and sadistic fetish for guns play out against a backdrop of social duty and formal manners. Rudolf, our anti-hero, must conform or die.
• Here is a short clip from the play:• http://www.roh.org.uk/video/index.html?bcpid=1733261711

Other things I did!
• I sat in with other rehearsals for many different ballets choreographed by different directors.
• I took a tour around the ROH, and visited all the different departments of the theatre.
• I had to take things to the dancers dressing rooms.
A Highlight of my trip!
• One of the main highlights of my trip was when I was on the tour of the building and I was given a pair of ballet shoes of one of the dancers called Yuhui Choe and then got them signed by all the dancers.
My Relationship with others!
• The main people I worked with were Johanna, Lynne and Lucy and we all got on very well. They were very friendly and easy to get on with.
• I also worked with many other people e.g. the dancers, directors, people in the office and others in different departments, I got on well with everyone because everyone was very friendly.
Why I chose it and was it a success?
• I decided to do my work experience with the Royal Ballet because I’ve always loved dancing and I thought it would be an interesting experience.
• I’m glad I chose to do my work experience with the Royal Ballet because I really enjoyed it and had a great time down in London.
Thanks for Watching!
