Capability exists for conducting tests as per MIL-STD-461E/F. These standards establish interface and are associated for the verification of requirements for the control of electromagnetic interference (EMI) emission and susceptibility characteristics of electronic, electrical and electromagnetic equipment and subsystems designed or produced for the use by activities and agencies of the Department of Defense (DOD). Such equipment and subsystems may be used independently or as an integral part of other subsystems or systems.

Modern electrical/electronic equipment & instrumentation make use of ever increasing sophisticated electronics, making

them prone to malfunctioning/misoperation due to issues related to electromagnetic interference (EMI) /electromagnetic

compatibility (EMC) which can either permanently damage the equipment or can even cause damage to the larger system

in which the equipment may be embedded/networked. To ensure that such failures do not occur, stringent EMI/EMC

compatibility test codes & procedures have been developed by the relevant National/ International standards as per which

all electrical/electronic products must be evaluated to meet the required minimal specified level of EMI/EMC compliance.

To enable the industry to have their electrical/electronic products tested for EMI/EMC compliance requirements, ERDA has

set up a sophisticated state-of-the-art 10 meter semi-anechoic chamber and the test facilities as per IS/IEC and MIL

standards. Relevant highlights of this laboratory are as below:
