Note from the EMGA Update Editor Please accept my apologies for sending out the EMGA Update without the OPC results last week. This EMGA Update has been modified to include last Thursday’s results. Many thanks to Kevin, Geo, Dick Habbinga and anyone I may have missed for helping to man the table. Also thanks to Willie Silva and Jim Lamberson for having most all the inputs done. We still have a couple issues with the Golf Genius program but it (or perhaps us) is getting better. Since I was in the last group to tee off, I can say the pace of play was pretty good, about 4:20 to complete so cudos to everyone for doing a great job. Home & Away We played the home end of the Home and Away event with the Club at Pradera Wednesday, 26 July. We won the bragging rights points 14 to 4. The team of John Horsman and "Tuck" Tucker took second place in the Best Ball competition with a best net ball score of 65 winning $20 each in pro shop credit. The team of Jim Huffman and Bob Peterson got third place besting two other teams in a scorecard playoff with a score of 67 and a prize of $20 in pro shop credit to share. There were 11 skins which paid out $10 each. The EMGA skins winners included Mark Craig with a skin on #3, Bill Ebersohl with a skin on #4, and "Tuck" Tucker with a skin on #7. We will play the Away half of the event next Wednesday, 2 August.

For the final Home and Away event of the year, the team shapes up as follows: Joe Beaudoin, Roger Beusch, Marty Bunker, Alan Crow, Bill Ebersohl, Ron Fortin, Tony Goodman, Joe Hampton, John Hayes, Ted Hilbun, Pony Horsman, Jim Huffman, Mike Knaub, Don Knight, Gus Prete, Joe Staten, Fred Steffers, and John Weidner. Our first alternate is Jim Prior. We will play at home on Monday, 14 August and at Kissing Camels on Tuesday, 15 August. We'll wear White shirts at home and Blue Shirts at Kissing Camels. Please let us know if a) you're on this list and can't make it or b) if you think you should be, but are not on this list.

Tournament Update We are just one week away from our annual Vic Kregel Championship tournament. The signup sheet is in the book in the senior men's locker room. As per EMGA rules, you must have played in four other EMGA events to be eligible to COMPETE in the Kregel. These include Match Play, Open Play/Open Competition, Home and Aways, and our previous Tournaments. Sorry we cannot count the Open Competition rounds in April as we do not keep a log of who played on those days. We do recognize though that as all of us are getting older, medical conditions for ourselves or our loved ones do limit the number of events we can play in. If you are short of four events for this or other valid reasons, please contact Don Knight at d-eknigt@comcast.net for a possible exemption. The Kregel is a two-week, individual tournament. We will play our Aug 3rd round on the Silver course and our Aug 10th round on the Blue course followed by lunch and the announcement of the winners. We will be having five flights. Our Championship Flight will play from the Green tees and the overall EMGA Vic Kregel Club Champion will be the lowest Gross score. Right now the cut for the Championship Flight is coming in around 12 and below H.I. Flights 2 through 4 will play from the White tees and Flight 5 (H.I. 23.0 and above) will play from the Yellow tees. The Kregel winners for these flights will be the lowest Net scores. According to Club rules, this is the one tournament where we do not use Rule 3-5. All players must play from their assigned tees. With $1,600 in payouts, the Kregel is our highest playing event of the year. First place Gross and Net in all five flights will be receiving $60 each; $45 for second Gross and Net; $30 for third; $15 for 4th; and $5 for fifth. As you may not win both Gross and Net, there will be ten money winners in each flight so the odds are in your favor to play. Additionally, each round will also have two closest to the pins for $10 per winner and optional Gross and Net skin competitions for $1 each entry fee. So please plan on playing even if you do not have the required four rounds or can only play one of the two weeks as you will still be eligible for any Pins and Skins winnings. You may also sign up for the lunch without playing or only playing one week. The lunch is provided as part of your annual dues so there is no charge.
