2013/2014 Compute Purchase Plan

CURRENT EUSD STUDENT COMPUTERS

• Student Computers:• Currently students have computers that

approximately 5+ years old. • The systems are out of warranty and they’re

starting to have issues with hardware failures and persistent slow response times.

• We do not have enough computers to support the Common Core testing requirements that will be in place for 2014/2015 school year.

Student Computer Plan• repair and re-purpose the old teacher and staff

computers for student use in classrooms • purchase 4 laptop carts to be shared between ESS and

Anna Yates for Common Core testing• utilize the N-computing terminals to expand our ability

to do Common Core testing • MAC mini computers with both Windows and OSX

installed for the computer labs • lab management application to be setup and utilized

to help with productivity and classroom management • New locks will be purchased to secure the hardware

Status of Teacher Computers

• Current students have computers that are approximately 5 years old

• Educational computer applications are limited to Windows

TEACHER COMPUTE PLAN

• purchase new Mac laptop computers for the teachers

• locked computer on each teacher desk• ability to run both OSX and Windows 7• individual training on the systems from IT staff

upon receiving the computer

Classified Staff

• computers are 2 to 10 years old • systems are out of warranty and they’re

starting to have issues with hardware failures and persistent slow response times

Server

• file server is over 10 years old and needs to be replaced. The systems HD’s are at capacity.

• purchase a new file server that is capable of storing District files as well as streaming multimedia to the classroom

PROPOSED PURCHASING SCHEDULE

• teacher computers, student lab computers and one laptop cart are needed ASAP

• 64 lab computers • 30 student laptop computers in a cart• 55 teacher laptop computers • Cost: $148,104.14

• Staff computers and the server to be ordered • Estimated Cost: $60,000.00

• The additional laptop carts for students • Estimated Cost: $50,000.00
