What is 3D (3-Dimensional)?

Refers to objects that are rendered visually on paper, film or on screen in three planes (X, Y and Z)

How can 3D images be viewed?

We have two eyes, which are approximately 3 inches apart. This separation causes each eye to see the world from a

slightly different perspective. The brain fuses these two views together.

• Stereo Pairs (stereoscope: separate display for each eye)• Shutter glasses (most common method)• Color filter glasses (used in some old 3D movies)• Polarizing glasses (used in some modern 3D movies)

Ways to view 3D images:

Mobile 3-D

What if you don’t need to go to the movies to experience 3-D?

What if you can view 3-D images on the palm of your hand thru your

mobile phones, gaming consoles, and PC tablets?

SWOT Analysis of Mobile 3-D

•No need for 3-D glasses•Realistic gaming experience anytime, anywhere•3-D cameras already included in phone; enables 3-D video conferencing

•Strains the eyes•Trying to maintain the 3-D image can be tiresome•Only one person can see the 3-D effect•3-D image can only be seen at certain angles•Adding another layer over the LCD can reduce the brightness and resolution by almost 50%•Cannot be used in direct sunlight

•Not enough 3-D content for other markets (retail, education, etc.)•There may be a small market for 3-D content in mobile phones since 3-D is not yet a “staple.”

•Available 3-D content provided by certain sectors (entertainment, gaming, CAD)•Many companies which produce cellular phones and television are gearing towards being 3-D capable.•Can be used for personal use (entertainment, gaming, media, calls, etc.)•Can be used for business applications (advertising, precision measurement, marketing, business presentations, etc.)

•Cost implications: Added capital investments (Research and Development, IT / Telecommunications Equipment, Salaries of top caliber IT Professionals, Technology Outsource, etc.)

•Technology is indeed expensive but its a worthy investment because it is expected to translate to more sales, streamlined production and ultimately to a more profitable business.
