The Campaign for EMERGENCY AND TRAUMA CARE Part of the campaign for cardiovascular care Emergency Department and Trauma Center at Prebys Cardiovascular Institute At any time in our lives, illness or injury can happen in an instant, without warning. Scripps has launched a special campaign as part of the $180 million Campaign for Cardiovacular Care to ensure that the best emergency and trauma care is there when you and your family need it — 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Each year, approximately 29,000 people arrive at the emergency department at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, seeking help from our board-certified physicians, registered nurses and other health care practioners. More than 3,500 are treated annually in our Level II trauma center, which is part of an advanced network of region-wide care that provides 24-hour access to experienced trauma teams. With steady population growth in San Diego, especially in the North County coastal areas, it is essential to keep pace by continually advancing our expertise, technology and services, and building our capacity to handle anticipated growth. The new emergency department and trauma center will be located on the first floor of Prebys Cardiovascular Institute. The center will nearly double the size of our current emergency and trauma facilities, increasing the number of treatment stations from 15 to 34, and expanding our observation unit from four to 18 beds. It will also include dedicated radiology services, with imaging capabilities conveniently nearby. Completion is anticipated in fall 2016.
