Sam 12:58 PM @Athens33 2/3 of my trades are short term spreads (2 week out). I like to leg in to reduce the cost on days the market is moving fast. I place my spread across sectors for some diversification. For my long calls I go one month plus out except for day trades. I use 10% this weeks spreads, 10% next weeks spreads, 10% longs, so generally 70% cash in account as protection. I dip into the cash for day trades. When I want more protection, I keep it short, small and usually sell puts underneath using SPY. I’ve found there is plenty of time to play bigger when the elevator goes down. The people in this room don’t miss much, so there is always time to add more. Besides Bob will shout from the hilltops protection, protection, protection.

So it's sort of a good idea to not get caught w. those, in my experience.
