Held on 31 May 2013 at the Holiday InnSingapore Atrium, the 31st FDAWU/NTUC/SHA Productivity Seminar cum AwardsPresentationCeremonysawtherecognitionof a record number of 56 deservingemployees who were nominated by theirrespectiveorganizationsforthe“EmployeeoftheYear”award.
Thewinnerswerepresentedwithacertificateof commendation and a trophy byGuest-of-Honour,Mrs Josephine Teo,Minister ofStateforFinanceandTransport.
Inaddition,theawardceremonyrecognizedhotels for their productivity efforts in the4thProductivity IdeaAward.Thisyear, thechampion team title went to Shangri-La’sRasa Sentosa Resort for their simple yeteffectiveideaofreplacingice-cubemachineswithmoreenergy-efficient industrialchilledwater dispensers and thereby making theoperational task of serving iced water formeetingsandbanquetseasierandfaster.
Three teams, namely Equarius Hotel andBeach Villas at Resorts World Sentosa,Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium and HotelMichael at Resorts World Sentosa were
shortlistedby theorganizingcommittee toreceiveSpecialMentionfortheirefforts.
Thesecondsegmentoftheprogrammesawthesharingofproductivity initiativesbyMrJosephChu,DirectorofHumanResourcesof Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium, whichwontheAonHewittBestEmployersAward2013.
More than 200 representatives from theunionandthehospitalityindustryattendedtheevent.

Singapore, May 20, 2013 – Singapore has emerged as the onlyAsiancityintheTopTenConventionCitiesintheworldalongsideVienna,Madrid,Paris,BerlinandBarcelona,accordingtothelatestGlobal Rankings by the International Congress and ConventionAssociation (ICCA).Singaporehasalsomaintained itspositionasAsia’sTopConventionCityfor11yearsrunning.In2012,Singaporehostedarecordof150ICCAevents,thehighestsofar,representinga5.6percentincreasefrom142in2011,comparedtothe4.4percentincreasefrom2010to2011.
TheaccoladecomesafterastellaryearforSingaporetourismasthecountrywelcomeda recordhigh14.4millionvisitors,an increaseofninepercentfrom2011whiletourismreceiptsstoodatS$23.0billion,anincreaseofthreepercentfrom2011.For2013,Singaporeforecasts tourism receipts to grow to between S$23.5 – S$24.5billion,andvisitorarrivalstobetween14.8–15.5million.
There was also robust performance in the Meetings, Incentives,ConventionsandExhibitions (MICE) industry,which sawBTMICEvisitorarrivalsriseto2.5millionfromJanuarytoSeptember2012,representing a six per cent year-on-year growth. Expenditure bythese business visitors rose seven per cent year-on-year to anestimatedS$4.29billion.
