ECUMENICAL PRAYER FOR PEACE Sunday, August 6 at Pallottine Renewal Center

15270 Old Halls Ferry Rd. at 3:00pm

Pallottine Renewal Center is hosting its third annual ecumenical hour of prayer, providing an opportunity to gather as a faith community. “This United Prayer for Peace service is addressing all the barriers that divide us. More than ever it seems the unification of all through prayer and action is needed,” says Marilyn Webb, executive director of the center. “Pallottine is a sacred place of peace. Our gift is offering our space as a place to come together in unity.” In addition to Pallottine, the sponsors of the event are the North County Churches Uniting for Racial Harmony and Justice (NCCU), Presbytery’s Social Witness Policy Action Team and the Peace and the Justice Commission of the Archdiocese of St. Louis.

PASTOR JOHN HEALTH UPDATE

Usually people like to keep their health issues private, but I have always believed a congregation should be updated on the health of their pastor. I had a series of doctor appointments this week and the results are mostly good: My foot is healing great and the antibiotic is doing its job to get rid of the infection. My blood sugar is back to normal as is my blood pressure. My kidneys took a pretty good hit with this last infection. But as of Tuesday the blood work showed they are moving in the right direction. However, because of the impact on the kidneys, I am not producing the amount of red blood cells and so that is why I have little energy. The kidney specialist has prescribed two medicines to help improve that and as my kidneys continue to improve, I should quickly make more red blood cells and I should be getting my energy back. Thank you for your continued prayers and support. The other day my wife Jackie said next summer she is shipping me North at the beginning of summer because the heat takes a toll on my feet! Maybe next summer will be milder?

KID’S CLUB NEWS

baby food jars for a craft project

The Kid's Club is working on a 6 week series called God and Nature. Since kids have been doing more things outside - with camp and vacations, these are good summertime lessons.

First Lesson was on "Water" Mary had a silly lesson trying to use a playdough cup. Water is a lot like the love of God. Everything stays alive with water.

The lessons for the next 5 weeks will focus on SEEDS, ROCK, STORMS, FLOWERS and SPICES. Have your kids come to see what all these have in common that tells us about God.

A SUCCESSFUL JULY FOR OUR YOUTH It seems like July is becoming youth-month at our church and this year was no different. In the month of July we had Vacation Bible School, Kid's Club Mini-Work Camp and our Youth Mission Work Camp. All three were great successes this year. Not only did we have great participation from youth, but we had wonderful help from our older youth and adult volunteers for all three of these events. In case you missed it, the Kid's Club Bird House Project was completed by the youth group mission trip by hanging the birdhouses at the trail-head of a new trail at Mound Ridge. With the approval of Don and Christy Foster, the camp directors, we will be able to have a sign made and call this area the Charlene Hadggega Bird Sanctuary. We have one more celebration and that will take place on Sunday, August 13th with our annual Blessing of the Backpacks. Now we do more than bless the backpacks, we also recognize all those who will work for the next year in education: teachers, administrators and support staff. We invite everyone who participates in the education process to be here that Sunday to be recognized and blessed for the school year ahead. BTW, put on your calendars for 2018 the following dates: VBS - July 9-13, 2018 - Theme is "Shipwrecked" Kid's Club Mission Trip - July 22-23, 2018 Youth Mission Trip - July 22-27, 2018

WORK IN THE ENTRYWAY The work will probably not be completely done this Sunday, but we are redoing the entryway to create a more user friendly welcome area. First, we moved a door to the far right side entry into the craft room and a wall was built which will be covered with chalk board paint. This will allow us to lock that area and our plans are to completely move our Kid's Club Program to that front area (the nursery will stay where it currently is). Second, we took all the glass out and made a solid wall on the left side. We have reinforced that wall so we can hang a flat-screen TV as a welcome center promo. The area just in front of the TV will have a sign-in book and some information about our church. Third, we removed the rest of the carpet on the walls and are applying stucco as is on the other parts of the walls.

A big thanks to our crew for doing this work!
