Isaac caught the selectors eye with his all round skill. He is a strapping lad at 6‘4‖ and growing. His ruck skills and clean handball out of congestion leads to winning the ball forward. Isaac reads the play well, takes a good strong mark and is very agile for a big man. Congratulations Isaac we wish you every success in the upcoming Australian Championships to be held in Canberra.

Billabong‘s mini-winning streak came to an abrupt end against a superior Albury High School team at Culcairn Sportsground on Wednesday 9th June.

After comprehensive wins against St Pauls/Trinity and James Fallon, Billabong went down by 51 points after edging to the lead at the end of the first quarter by three points. That was our only winning quarter.

Missing regular players, Ben Terlich, Josh Jones and Matt Galvin gave the opportunity to several first-gamers who all competed well in an effort to stem the tide after quarter time. Co-captain Derek Singe led from the front, moving from half back, to the midfield and then into the ruck in a best-afield performance. He was backed by some spirited efforts by Ben McKenna, Dylan Hore, Stewie Williams, Jordan Trethowan and Lindon Barry.

The team now fronts up against Scots in Albury next Wednesday in a game that is sure to test the character and spirit of the team. The coach has every confidence that they will rise to the challenge.

Shake-N-Stir Performance

To a majority of high school students Shakespeare is just another dead guy who wore a weird collar and wrote things in a language that was practically unintelligible, lacking relevance and excitement to experience. However on Wednesday the 1st of June, students from years nine, ten and eleven were exposed to an interpretation of William Shakespeare‘s finest works through the Shake & Stir company‘s production ‗Statespeare’.

The performance consisted of four year 12 students; two over-intelligent, somewhat dorky best friends and two uninterested cool kids, teaming up reluctantly to prepare for their HSC piece with the task of answering ‗Is Shakespeare still relevant?‖ The team of four explored various famous works of Shakespeare, taking on different view points and levels of movement in order to showcase how his work is of high excellence with continual relevance in society.

Through the use of ample masses of physical theatre, witty puns, hilarious references to colloquial language used by teenagers, creative staging

and lighting, as well as unlimited commitment, Ross Balbuziente, Nelle Lee, Nick Skubij and Judy Hainsworth showed us ways to explore Shakespeare by acting instead of reading his work.

The fun didn‘t stop there, because after a quick question session it was off to do a workshop with them which proved to be uplifting and beneficial in highlighting the importance of performing Shakespeare‘s clever plays, through explanations and adaptations to today‘s society and culture.

On behalf of all students who participated, we would like to thank Mr Velikans, Mrs Hendriks, the Kanes Bus Service and all of the performers and crew who allowed this eye-opening day to happen.

April Salzke, Reanna Kissell.
