    2012 Year End Report

This year-end report is usually an EMAUSA informational report. But with so manyurgent projects unfunded we are asking you to prayerfully consider making adonation this Thanksgiving season. The crucial projects have been identified, planshave been drawn, the workers are ready and we now call on Gods people tofund these projects to completion.

ELWA (Eternal Love Winning Africa) is an interdenominationalChristian organization with a 130-acre campus located on theAtlantic Ocean outside of Monrovia, the capital of Liberia. ELWAoperates a 50-bed hospital, a 400 student K-9 Christian

elementary school, a youth camp and ELWA Christian radiostation. ELWA Radio was the first Christian radio station built inall of Africa and it has broadcast the Gospel throughout Liberiaand neighboring countries for nearly 60 years.

ELWA Ministries Association USA (EMAUSA) was formed toexcite American Christians about the work of ELWA in Liberia and help raise supportto rebuild the ministry after the horrific and destructive Liberian Civil war.

This past year had more than its share of challenges, from the limited radiobroadcasting due to the fire, the security wall almost built and then torn down, issues with the government and the land. But God is so faithful! ELWA has been

blessed to have had wise, capable leadership from Will Elphick, SIM LiberiaDirector. In the midst of all this, exciting plans have been made and are in theprocess of being implemented for the future of ELWA and its various ministries.

YOU have the privilege and opportunity of partnering with SIM (Serving InMission), ELWA, and EMAUSA with your prayer and financial support .Where is ELWA now? Many of you are anxious for an update on ELWA, especiallyELWA Radio and the Hospital. (News, updates and conversation can also be foundon the EMAUSA Facebook page.)

    Radio

In late November 2011, tragedy struck Radio ELWA. Themain studio building burned to the ground leaving alimited number of broadcasts that now continue from theadministration building. The short wave radio used toreach Muslim countries has been silenced-for now.Currently, ELWA is not pursuing shortwave, but rather

streaming on the internet. Fiber optic cable is supposed to be ready in November.Rough estimate for this rebuild is $300,000. We have the technical advice, aconstruction manager and $132,000 already raised to start construction inNovember 2012.

If you have enjoyed Christian radio like Moody or K-Love in the U.S, you know howimportant this can be for those with access only to a radio. We know that over thelast 50+ years many people have heard, passed through or served at ELWA and weare calling on everyone whose heart beats for Liberia to respond. We havea great God who loves Liberians and the people of Africa. Just as He provided somany years ago through His people, He will provide again.

    Hospital

The current 50 bed ELWA Hospital built over 50 years ago has deteriorated badlyduring the 14 year civil war. But God continues to look down on ELWA with love andprovision. In partnership with Samaritans Purse International, a new teachinghospital with a capacity of 100 beds is in the process of being built. The aim is to

complete this building project by late 2014. In the meantime funds are needed tocarry out the maintenance and repair of the old hospital.

The Operating Room needs equipment such as a new anesthesia machine with amonitor, hydraulically operated (non-electric) operating tables for each OR roomplus many other pieces of equipment. Rusty Laird, Construction Manager gives usthe latest update:

Things are moving along with the first building of the newhospital, The Kitchen/Laundry building. It will be wrappingup in early December. We will use it as a constructionwarehouse and office while the rest of the hospital is being

constructed. You can be praying for good progress throughthe dry season and for us to be able to order, ship andclear materials efficiently.

Key Projects That Need Your SupportWhile fund raising continues for ELWA Radio and the ELWA Hospital, EMAUSA hasbeen asked to focus our fund raising efforts to support four key projects:

    1) ELWA Christian Academy Scholarship Fund

Providing scholarships for needy Liberian children continues to be apriority. Through your support, EMAUSA currently providesscholarships to 32 students. Many more pray for an opportunity toget a scholarship and go to school. ELWA Academy only goesthrough 9th grade; our challenge has been to place our 10th-12thgrade students in local, affordable, Godly high schools. Wanting our

scholarship dollars going toward high quality Biblical education, we have developedwritten guidelines, which we call "Criteria for Approved Schools". Meeting this goalwas extremely challenging this fall for Benedict Nagbe, principal of ELWA Academy, and James Kesselly, who have provided invaluable assistance on the ground for thescholarship program. This has highlighted the need for an ELWA Academy HighSchool.

Tuition fees in Liberia have doubled and tripled, and though our number of studentshas been reduced from 42 to 32, our costs have increased. You or your group cansupport a selected student for $250 a year. We need $3,000 by January forsecond semester tuition fees (a total of $8,000 a year).

If you can help with our scholarship fund, please write Project #2010-02 on thecheck memo line.

    2) ELWA Youth Camp Restoration

In 1960, ELWA built a Youth Camp on its campus where Liberian kids could have funand experience Gods love. The ELWA Youth Camp (at that time called CampLawana) served Liberian kids for decades and many came to know Christ throughthis ministry. (There is a Facebook page just for Camp Lawana alumna toreconnect). A major facelift for the small cabin housing, kitchen, meeting space andgrounds is badly needed for the Youth Camp to operate again. A team from theChapel Churches in Chicago, led by Perry Moore and joined by Dan Snyder, hasvolunteered to go to ELWA in March 2013 and work alongside Liberian workers torestore the camp. The team will pay for all of their own expenses but $30,000 isneeded for materials and supplies to replace roofs, build bunk beds and repairand paint the eight camp buildings. There is no other facility like this in thecountry. It will be used for sports camps, Youth For Christ, ECUL, retreats, and

more, and we hope to bring teams experienced in camping ministry to train youthand church leaders.

To donate to the Youth Camp project, write Project #2012-01" in the memo line.

    3) ELWA Guest House Project

There is an urgent need for a major work to be done at the ELWA Guest House. Many pastors, teachers, doctors and mission teams stay at the Guest House and

use it for meetings when they come to assist the needs of ELWA and Liberia, but itscurrent condition makes it unusable for these visitors. ELWAUSA is working closelywith SIM to repair this 50+ year-old existing building, and the estimated totalcost is $120,000.

We currently have a donor willing to match up to $25,000 of money gifts receivedfrom other donors for this project. The ELWA Guest House has a kitchen, laundry, 6bathrooms, 7 bedrooms, dining area and meeting space for 30 people. The roof, windows, appliances, plumbing and all rooms need repair or replacement. Yourhelp with this restoration project will positively impact the ongoing ministries ofELWA. Our team will be working on this project when they return to Liberia in

    4) Orphan Support/Susie Guenter Orphanage

The Susie Guenter Orphanage is located just across theroad from the ELWA Ministries Campus in MonroviaLiberia. Before leaving Liberia, after serving as

missionaries in the 1950s, Abe (a pilot) and Susie Guenter founded and helpedbuild the orphanage. Decades later and after a 14-year civilwar, the orphanage is in disrepair and now has little support. Please help us provide for these 28 forgotten children. Theyneed about $500 per month to feed and care for thesechildren. The Orphanage also provides schooling for another150 local students. They need funds for uniforms, books, school supplies, and teacher training to keep up thisministry.

EMAUSA has provided funds for a security wall for Susie Guenter that is almostcompleted; only lacking funds for a gate. The wood shop and sewing centerinstalled by Board member David Parker is generating some income, and we alsobuilt a merry-go-round well to provide clean water. If you feel led to help withOrphan Support, please write Project # 2012-03 on your checks memo line.
