I’m about to have surgery. What bra do I need?

If you are about to have a mastectomy or a lumpectomy, then it’s important to have the right bra after surgery. It will allow you to heal, accommodate swelling and most importantly, feel comfortable. We recommend a special post surgery bra, that is soft against the skin and is front fastening, which you may feel is easier if you have impaired movement in your arm. All our post surgery bras contain pockets or cup linings to insert a lightweight breast form, also known as a “comfie”. If you are having reconstructive surgery, a compression bra may be suggested as the best option. Please see our compression sports bra which will ensure support and comfort on page 32 – 33.

What happens next? About 6 – 8 weeks later after healing, you will be

ready to wear a more supportive bra with a silicone prosthesis. We recommend you come and see us to ensure you are in the correct size and shape of bra. We are more than happy to fit and advise you on your lingerie and breast prosthesis and you should be able to make purchases from our large collection to ensure you have the perfect match to your natural shape. For more info on the different types of prostheses please see page 49 or the advice pages on our website.

How many bras do I need? We would recommend that you have a small

collection of bras for different occasions and outfits, as one style of bra may not look right under all your clothes. You may prefer different lingerie and prostheses for daywear, active sports and special occasions which we will be more than happy to help you with. Start with three different bras (one to wear, one to wash, one in the drawer ready to go) and you can expand your collection for the seasons. The average life of a bra can be as little as 6 months, so remember to replace your bras regularly. For care advice please see page 30.

Can I wear underwires? We would not recommend wearing an underwire

immediately after mastectomy surgery as the delicate tissue around the scar needs time to heal properly. Usually you can wear an underwired bra, if you feel comfortable doing so, approximately 4 -6 months after surgery, and also provided you have the all-clear from your doctor. It is most important that you are correctly fitted for your underwired bra to ensure that the wires are not digging into the breast tissue or the delicate area surrounding the scar. We have a carefully selected range of flexible and gently underwired bras on page 24 – 31.

What about exercise? Do I need specialist bras or swimwear?

Most nurses will encourage you to be active after surgery. We have sports bras for low impact activities such as yoga, and more supportive styles for high impact activity such as running, tennis or horse-riding. Once you have completed your treatment swimming is one of the best low-impact forms of exercise. Therefore we stock specially designed swimming prostheses that allow the water to drain quickly away and chlorine resistant swimsuits with pockets inside to keep you secure and confident. We also have beautiful, fashionable pocketed swimsuits, bikinis and tankinis should you want to go away somewhere fabulous to get away from it all.

Approximately 80% of women wear the wrong size bra!

The fit of a bra can change the way you look and feel. Measuring for a bra with a tape measure can often be inaccurate, as all bras vary between different manufacturers so you may not be the same size in all the styles you choose.

Follow our bra tips to get the right size:

• Thebandorunderbustofthebrashouldbefirmbutcomfortable. It should not ride up at the back at all. Try a smaller size around the body. E.g. 36B too big try a 34C (the cup size remains the same but the letter must change) see fig1

• When a bra is new it should be fastened on theloosest hook so when it stretches it can be tightened.

• Thecupshouldcontainthewholebreast,ifyouareprotruding over the top, try the next size up. If the cup is very wrinkled try a cup smaller. E.g. 34C too small, try 34D

• Ensureyouliftyourbreast(s)intothecup.Youmayfind it easier to bend forwards, allowing yourself to drop into the cup.

Non wired bra – the perfect choice for most ladies following surgery with no wires to irritate delicate breast tissue.

Underwired bra – ideal for ladies with heavier busts requiring more support and shape. Only to be worn after you have healed and have the go ahead from your doctor/breast care nurse.

Moulded bra – perfect to give a smooth shape under close fitting tops. Doesn't add extra volume to the bust.

Sports Bra – designed to support the bust during high and low impact activities. Usually made from more compressive fabrics.

We aim to process your order quickly and efficiently with standard delivery charged at £3.95 and you can expect to receive your order within 5 – 7 days. If you require a pocket to be added to your order please allow an extra 5 – 7 days. Should you require items more urgently, please call us on 0845 22 55 080, we will always endeavour to help. Special Delivery before 1pm is available at a cost of £6.95 on orders placed before 12 noon from Monday to Thursday. (Friday orders will be delivered on Monday). Refunds and Exchanges

You can shop in confidence with Eloise Lingerie! If you are dissatisfied in any way with your purchases you can return them to us with our FREE RETURN label. Simply affix onto your parcel and obtain proof of postage from the post office. We kindly request that you return any items for refund or exchange within 14 days in an ‘as sold’ condition with all labels and original packaging. Items will be refunded back as per the original method of payment. Where an exchange is requested for a different value item, the returned item(s) will be refunded and a new order will be placed, without any postage cost. Please allow 3 – 5 days for refunds and exchanges to be processed. Please note: we are unable to accept the return of items that have been specifically adapted (i.e. had a pocket added at your request) or items that are self-adhesive for hygiene reasons.

VAT VAT is not charged on post-mastectomy goods,

Care Advice Please ensure you follow the care instructions for

your garment. We recommend that lingerie is hand washed in tepid water with a mild detergent specially formulated for delicates. For items that are able to be machine washed, please use a laundry bag to protect delicate items from snagging. Always allow to drip dry. We do not recommend putting lingerie in a tumble dryer or on the radiator to dry.

Special Services offered at Eloise Free Fitting Service We offer a free fitting service by appointment only,

so it is important that you call in advance to arrange a time to see one of our experienced fitters. We have a wide selection of bras in a variety of sizes and colours, as well as a large collection of mastectomy swimwear.

We have an excellent range of prostheses that we can offer you, even if you just want to look at these before going to the hospital to be fitted for your silicone prosthesis, we don’t charge a consultancy fee. Pocketing Service We offer a pocketing service for bras purchased at

Eloise, by our experienced seamstress who can sew in a bespoke pocket. We do not sell pre-made pockets as the shape of each cup and bra can vary greatly. To ensure the right fit we recommend that our ladies do not purchase pre-made pockets.

Please Note – Once you have requested for a pocket to be added, the bra is non-returnable. Therefore we advise you try the bra before the pocket is added. Simply use the free returns label provided in your parcel or state when ordering that you wish to try the item prior to pocketing.

Please allow up to 14 days for the pockets to be added and returned to you. We can also pocket your own bras or swimwear.

Your guide to prostheses

As with bra fitting, each prosthesis is different so it

is important to find the right one for you. There are

different weight, colour and volume options to

choose from and we can help advise you on which

is most suitable for you.

Silicone prostheses are carefully handmade and

hand finished, resembling the density and movement

of a natural breast as closely as possible hence their

higher cost. Cheaper alternatives are available but

rarely tend to last as long or give as natural a shape.

If you do not require a full prosthesis for a

mastectomy, but need something to balance out

uneven shape following partial or reconstructive

surgery then have a look at our shell prosthesis or

silicone breast enhancer, which are perfect for

providing either slightly more projection or a small

amount of compensation to the lower bust.

New technologies provide fantastic innovations in

terms of comfort and shape. Lighter weight options

and heat regulating properties are just some of the

new features available.

We also provide foam and leisure prostheses, ideal

for post surgery and leisure activities. For regular

swimmers we have clear silicone prostheses

specifically designed for swimming.

The key to getting a perfect fit and shape is to ensure

that you are correctly fitted for your bra and

prosthesis. Your ideal prosthesis will mimic your bust

shape whilst wearing a good fitting bra, so take in to

account that your bust shape without a bra will be

Prostheses are sized by numbers instead of bra

Prostheses

Prosthesis Care tips:

Your silicone prosthesis can last if you treat it well. Wash everyday with warm soapy water and pat dry

with a towel. Adhesive prostheses are best left to air dry. Take care not to pierce your prosthesis with

pins/brooches etc. A waterproof plaster will provide a temporary fix until you can replace your

prosthesis. Keep your prosthesis in its care box whilst not in use to retain shape. Where stated that

prosthesis is suitable for swimming, please rinse thoroughly to remove all traces of chlorine or salt.
