Game NotesLast Time Out: The Soaring Eagles squared-off against No. 4 Middlebury College for the second time this season, play-ing to a 2-2 overtime tie last Saturday. EC trailed 1-0 early in the second period, but two goals from Erin Weston ’15, one towards the end of the second period and another five minutes into the third period, to put Elmira on top, 2-1. Middlebury concluded the day’s scoring with the game-tying goal with less than seven minutes on the clock.

Two for Weston: Erin Weston ’15 scored both of EC’s goals against Middlebury last Saturday, matching her career-high for goals in a game. It was Weston’s first multi-goal game of the season and the third multi-goal game of her career. The last time she scored two goals in a game, prior to Saturday, was against Utica College on November 10, 2013.

Career-High for Nelson: EC netminder Kyle Nelson ’17 was tested early and often against the Panthers as Middle-bury put 37 shots on goal. Nelson made 35 stops in 65 minutes between the pipes, setting a new career high.

Looking Ahead: The Purple and Gold return to their ECAC West Conference schedule following this after-noon’s game as they travel to take on Neumann University for a pair of games next weekend. The first game of the weekend series is on Friday, January 16th at 7:00 p.m.

Game NotesComing in Hot: Norwich University lost their first game of the season against the Soaring Eagles, but have not lost since, riding a nine-game unbeaten streak. The Cadets have gone 8-0-1 since that loss to EC, which includes eight straight wins. At nine games, the Cadets have the third-best current unbeaten streak in NCAA Division III women’s ice hockey.

Leading the Nation: The Cadets are tied with Bowdoin College and Oswego State for the national lead in scor-ing defense. Norwich has allowed just 1.00 goal per game, surrendering 10 goals in 10 games played. Contributing to Norwich’s stellar scoring defense are six shutouts, five of which came in consecutive games from November 7th to November 21st.

Road Tested: Today’s contest marks the sixth road game of the season for the Cadets, all of which have come in Nor-wich’s last eight games. The Cadets hold a 5-0-0 record in games played away from home, outscoring opponents, 18-3.

Series History: EC and Norwich have played each other 11 times since 2007-08, with the series history knotted-up at 5-5-1. The teams have alternated wins over the last four meetings, with the Soaring Eagles getting the best of the Cadets earlier this season, winning 3-2 in the opening game of the East-West Classic.
