of phenomena in time and space. It’s based on its

origin, structure and revolution.

Beliefs of Influence of Stars

People Believed:

• Stars, sun & zodiac signs had link with human body &

• Macrocosms: The events that happen on the universe

Microcosms: in human body

• Stars help cured disease

Superstition on Stars

• People believed that their whole lives were based on

the position of the stars.

• Queen Elizabeth started believing in horoscopes

when January 15, 1559 was chosen as the day of her

coronation, from her horoscope cast by John Dee.

• This convinced her that Dr. Dee was indeed a very good

astrologer and appointed him as his personal astrologer.

John Dee (Early Years)

He started studying the movement of the stars at the

Cambridge University. After becoming a founding member

of the Trinity College, Dee left England to travel outside of

Europe. He returned in 1551, and he was arrested

because mathematics at that time was thought to be

closely related to sorcery.

John Dee (Older Years)

In his older years, he was really into astrology. What he

mostly studied was the position of the

stars, sun, moon, and planets. He was made the private

astrologer of Queen Elizabeth.

John Dee (Alchemy)

In his later years, Dee got involved in Alchemy, attempting

to turn lead or mercury into gold. When the word spread

that he was studying Alchemy, he was considered more of

a wizard than of a scientist. In 1583, while he was not in

his house, a mob came to his house to burn his library

and stole all of his equipment.

Crime

Crimes were harshly dealt with during the Elizabethan

Era. People were publicly executed within the sight of

hundreds of civilians. One of the most famous forms of

execution was hanging the executed by the neck.

Suicide

Suicide was one of the greatest sins that a person

could commit towards the catholic religion. It was

said in that time period that if you committed suicide

your sins wouldn’t be forgiven and you would go

directly to hell. Although people at that time they were

really catholic, their economic status or emotional

level would make them consider killing

themselves, which ended up happening.

Torture

If the crime that the people did, they would be tortured.

The tortures that were applied during that time

period, are now prohibited in many countries since they

are too rough for the people to stand them.
