There is strong energy embedded in Elia Felices’ works. She enjoys dramatic spaces that are

magnificently produced. ‘Provocation’ by means of exaggerated expressions as if to stir and call

out our ‘dissatisfaction’ with reality that sits crouching in the corner of our inner selves. The

space she designs has special qualities with extraordinary shapes that would exist only in the

imaginative realm of dream world. Rather than designing with preferred styles and colours using

preferred materials, she gives a unique character to each of the projects she creates. What she

actively accepts are colours, light and patterns. She admires the contrast between black and

white, and likes to manipulate prime colours to create dreamy spaces filled with imagination and

bold experimentation. She can transform a small space into a majestic interior environment with

a single element of lighting. The many different expressions of patterns and applications of

colours that she has produced in so many typologies of projects originate from her research. She

takes her inspiration for design elements from simple ‘emotions’ people feel such as ‘enjoyment’,

‘peace’, and ‘repose’, avoiding indicative or excessive elements in order to reach ‘minimalism’

where colours exist. Elia Felices’s design methodology involves embedding the space with a story

with the purpose of producing an ‘ambience’ and prompting responses. The patterns with

organic shapes manifest their presence on the walls, on the furniture and lightings in the space.

In creating commercial spaces, offices, clinic and leasure facilities, she introduces the elements

that are necessary for that specific space to create a style that leaves a lasting impression in the

user’s memory. Before getting into the specifics of design for a commercial space, she takes a

thorough investigation on the target users in order to harness the retail space with the brand

power. In the <LA FLORIDITA DELICATESSEN> project she designed the display cases that take

the most important function in the retail space. The black frames of the display cases let visitors’

내는 것을 주목함으로써 공간 안에 이야기를 담아내는

것이 엘리아 펠리세스의 디자인 방법론이다. 유기적

형태의패턴은공간의벽이나가구, 조명에서그존재감을

드러낸다. 상업 공간, 오피스, 클리닉, 레저 등의 다양한

분야에서 활동하는 그녀는 공간의 용도별로 구분되는

각각의 필요요소를 적용시켜 사람들의 기억에 오래도록

여운이 남을 수 있게끔 하는 스타일을 창출해낸다.

엘리아는 특히 상업공간을설계하기전에공간을 방문할

고객에 대한 철저한 조사를 통해 마케팅적인 요소도

공간에 부여하여 브랜드 파워를 가질 수 있는 매장을

만들도록 노력한다. 그녀가 설계한 <라 플로리다 델리

카데센>은 판매 공간에서 가장 중요한 역할을 하고 있는

장식장을 중심으로 한 검정색테두리 장식이 눈에 띤다.

attention be focused on the products, and the methodical arrangement of the cases takes the

solidity of the frames up another level. Her visual effects are even more pronounced in her club

and restaurant projects. In the club space such as <NEW KUVEE DISCO> where exciting and

brilliant elements are expected, she animates the space with geometric patterns applied to every

wall and lighting to fill the whole space with multiple colours. The contrast between black and

white on the homogeneously coloured wall is made even more vivid with lighting. On the other

hand, the dining space in <DALAI RESTAURANT> is calm and peaceful. A luxurious restaurant

ambience is created by the petal patterns accented with white lighting behind the bar. Simple in

look, the formative design element creates an image that is unique to the restaurant. The

children’s spaces in <BABY CRACK> and <EL CONTE DE LA PILAR> are tastefully decorated in

colours of light green, pink, violet and red. The graphic rendition of children’s favourite

characters and the pictures of flowers that are not abstracted welcome visitors from the entrance

to the spaces, encouraging playful interaction between children and the spaces expressed in fairy

tale imagination. Light sources are covered with clothes, and the rays of light peeking though its

holes add another layer of pattern in the space to the pictures on the walls. With a keen interest,

Elia Felices wants to expand her areas of work to include public facilities and hotels. Her works

have even intrigued developers who in general prefer to stick to popular design, which means

there are more places on the way that are created with a design unique to her. Allowing ourselves

to fancy how she will complete her next project with extraordinary ideas, patterns and colours,

we look forward to the day when we would be enjoying her design in all the different areas of

dwelling, exhibition, hotel, public facility, and more.

효과가 강한 그녀의 작업은 클럽이나 레스토랑 등에서

두드러지게선보인다. 자극적이며화려한요소들을충분히

수용할 수 있는 <뉴 큐비 디스코>와 같은 클럽공간은

벽마다 그려진 기하학적인 패턴그림과 공간전체에 여러

색으로 비춰지는 조명으로 공간에 생기가 넘치게 한다.

단일화 된 색으로 칠해진 벽면의 검정색과 흰색은 조명

효과를 더욱 선명한 형태로 빛을 발하게 한다. <달라이

레스토랑>은 편안하게 식사를 하는 공간임을 고려해

비교적 차분한 분위기를 자아낸다. 바 뒤쪽으로 보이는

흰색조명으로강조된꽃잎모양을띤패턴은고급스러운

레스토랑 공간을 연출해냈다. 단순한 듯 보이지만 한쪽

벽면에서 빛을 발하고 있는 조형적 디자인 요소 하나로

그레스토랑만의이미지를가지게한다. <베이비크레크>

나 <이엘 콘테 드 라 필라>에서는 아이들을 위한 공간인

만큼아기자기하고연두, 분홍, 보라, 빨강등의알록달록한

색채로 다른 분류의 공간과는 다른 분위기를 선사한다.

아이들이 좋아할만한 캐렉터의 그래픽이나 추상적이지

않은꽃의그림은 공간 입구에서부터친근함을일으키며

아이들과동화적으로표현된공간이서로재미있는교감을

할수있도록유도한다. 조명에는나뭇잎덩굴같은천을

씌어구멍사이사이로새는빛이벽에그려지는그림과는

다른또다른패턴을공간에적용시킨다. 엘리아는그동안

많이다루어보지못한공공기관이나호텔등의작업영역에

큰호기심을가지며그녀의작업영역을깊이있게넓히려

한다. 그녀의 작업은 대중적인디자인을 선호하는 부동산

업체들에게까지 호기심을 자극시켜 그녀만의 창출적인

디자인을 더 많은 장소에 적용시킬 계획에 있다. 다음

프로젝트에 어떠한 다른 패턴과 색을 가진 기발한 아이

디어가 새로운 작품을 완성시킬지 궁금증을 일으키며,

주택, 전시, 호텔, 공공기관, 퍼블릭등어디에서든그녀의

다양한작업을볼수있는그날을기대해본다.

‘Pilar’s story’, located in Mataro, Barcelona, is a retail outlet for all kinds of articles for children.

Covering an area of 170m2, distributed between the ground floor and basement, it is a space full of

magic and surprises that seems to have sprung from a children’s story. There is a rainbow and out

of scale objects, all suggesting the world of the imagination. This idea, which is the main feature of

the project, makes use of real elements to create an enchanting environment. The principal user of

the products is children, but the space must be an attraction for persons of all ages. We have

projected a space full of elements that will take adults back to their childhood. Another circular form

joined to the arch contains the backlit logotype of the establishment. It consists of the frame of a

mirror that marks off the interior and simultaneously invites us to cross it to enter the shop. The

visitor passes through the frame to a fantasy world, as in the children’s story of ‘Alice through the

looking glass’. The displays contain shelves at different heights which are always open to the client

and which allow the product to be displayed neatly. Four successive arches contribute depth and

colour to the space and lead the customer onwards to the end of the store. The lighting of the arches

consists of RGB LEDs offering different combinations and ranges of colour which make it possible to

create the effect of a rainbow. We cross the rainbow as we decide to advance across the space. Light

바르셀로나 마타로에 위치한‘필라르 이야기’는 다양한 종류의 어린이용품을 판매하는 소매점이다. 1층과 지하층에

걸쳐모두 1 7 0 m²의면적을차지하는이공간은어린이의꿈에나올법한이야기로전개되는신기하고마술적인요소들로

가득하다. 천장에는 무지개가 있고 벽에는 비례적이지 않은 물건들이 배치되며 공간에 상상의 세계를 반영시킨다.

이와 같은 동화적 요소는 프로젝트의 주요 특징으로서, 매혹적이며 현실적환경으로 그 형태를 갖춘다. 일차적으로

제품을이용하는대상은어린이이지만, 모든나이대의사람들에게매력을발산하여새로운세계로빠져들게하는것이

이프로젝트의목표이다. 우리는공간에머무르는사람들에게어린시절로되돌아가는듯한아득하고도편안한느낌을

선사하도록했다. 매장앞의거리를지나가거나방문할때제일먼저맞게되는매장의파사드는밝은색과물결같은

곡선의 형태로 사람들의 시선을 사로잡는다. 선명한 파랑색을 띤 매장의 로고는 연두색의 아치형태 위쪽에 조명되며

입구에서부터공간의아기자기한맛을더해준다. 거울테두리로만들어진이파사드는내부와의경계를이루는동시에

방문객으로하여금동화‘거울나라의앨리스’처럼거울테두리를통과하여환상의세계로빨려들어가는것같게한다.

다양한높이의선반은진열대에배치된사물들을손님이언제든만져볼수있도록하는동시에가지런한진열형태를

보인다. 천장에는공간의깊이를더해주며매장끝까지이어지는네개의아치와보라, 분홍, 초록색등의알록달록한

색감들로 손님들이 매장 안쪽까지 접근할수 있도록 한다. 아치에 사용된조명은RGB 색의 L E D로 이루어져 있어

여러가지색의조합을통해무지갯빛효과를낸다. 이는방문객이매장안으로한발한발들어서면마치무지개속을

<La Cova>, located in Mataro, near Barcelona, is a nightclub. The interior is a flowing space with

different areas, most of which are open and easy to move around in, creating circuits in which

people can interact. It forms and colours that replicate ice caverns. A curved wall with an blue velvet

curtain leads us to the dancefloor where two bars with long counters run along either side. The bars

feature Perspex ovals backlit by RGB LEDs. There are also large MDF rosettes painted white next to

the ovals. The backlit bottle racks, where the bottles form part of a play of lights, transparencies and

colours associated with a glaciated landscape. The lighting is one of the main features, with the

dancefloor illuminated by two enormous neo-baroque lamps hanging own like stalactites. The other

source of light is compensated by some standing vases that look like rocks emerging from beneath

the floor. The white surface of structure in the space leads more effects on multiplying the

illumination and altering the overall mood by changing in different colours. <La Cova> has a distinct

appearance and a natural charm that is ideal for meeting people. Text by Elia Felices

개방적구조로 사람들이 서로 쉽게 소통할 수 있는 동선을 나타낸다. 바닥에서부터 천장으로 이어지는 꺾인 형태의

흰색 구조물은 파란색 조명에 반사되며 마치 얼음동굴을 연상시킨다. 푸른 벨벳 커튼이 처진 곡선의 벽을 따라

댄스플로어를 지나면 긴 카운터의 바가 양쪽으로 이어진다. 바는 투명아크릴을 타원 모양으로 설치하고 R G B색의

L E D로 배후 조명하여 입체감 있는 바를 연출했다. 바에 장착된 MDF 로 만들어진 장미꽃문양은 타원형 사이사이를

연결해주며 굴곡적인 장식을 가미한다. 바 뒤쪽에는 조명한선반에 놓인 술병들이 투명한 느낌의빛과 색의 유희를

표현하며 클럽공간에 몽환적인 분위기를 더한다. 패턴을 가진 조명은 이 클럽의 주요 요소 중 하나로 적용된다.

댄스플로어에는종유석처럼매달려있는두개의거대한신바로크양식의문양으로조명된다. 또다른광원은바닥에서

솟아오르는 꽃병의 형태를띤다. 흰색으로 마감된 공간의 모든 구조물은 갖가지 색으로비추어지는 조명의 효과가

배로나타나며강한시각적작용을가져온다. 화려한색과패턴의조명으로연출된<라코바>의신비한공간은사람들이

The idea to create a space of ethnic appearance without losing the elegance, the glamour and the

luxury, has supposed a very interesting challenge, that has been solved mixing in coherent way

forms, materials and colours, and giving protagonism to the graphic, which transmits all the

personality of the space. The graphic is the principal element of the space and it presents from the

façade. The flower pattern is apparently complex and baroque and it is cut in a modern form.

Therefore, it becomes the place in a scene where the peasant and the modern can coexist, the spirit

and the luxury, the humility and the elegance; where styles, materials, textures and colours fusion,

obtaining a spectacular result. The elements with ethnic references dominate in the space by using

warm materials and lamps with marked style. The use of the resistance black and white, the force of

the strategically placed light, the frozen effect that it is created with lighting curtains, the brightness

of the white materials, are the used methods to fuse successfully both styles. Different illumination,

a railing like separator, invested stairs that take us to the mezzanine, or colours, are some of the

elements that are used to create the barriers - more or less tangible, which separate the different

atmospheres, and which obtain, without physically dividing the opened space, to create a local with

이 프로젝트는 기품과 매력, 그리고 호화로움을 갖추는 동시에 민속적인 요소도 반영되는 공간을 만들겠다는 아주

흥미로운난제를 안고 시작됐다. 형태, 재료, 색을 일관된 방식으로 배합한 그래픽은 프로젝트의디자인 주요소로써

개성있는공간을연출시켰다. 실내에적용된그래픽의형태는건물의파사드에서먼저만나볼수있다. 바로크양식을

띠는꽃문양을현대적형태로응용시켜독특한디자인요소로재탄생시켰다. ‘신식과구식’, ‘심신적호화로움’, 그리고

‘인간적인면과기품’이함께공존하는이프로젝트는스타일과재료, 질감, 색이어우러지는멋진결과물이다. 따뜻한

느낌을주는조형물과재료, 그리고공간에서뚜렷한형태를띠는전등은전통적인방식의배치로공간에민속적특징을

나타낸다. 흑백의대비, 주도면밀하게배치된조명의강렬한빛, 조명커튼으로연출된파란빛의차가운표면, 흰재료의

밝기등은이공간만의독특한성향을표출하기위한방법이다. 여러가지형태의조명과그의색, 난간의용도를지닌

칸막이, 중층으로 올라가는계단등은 전체적으로 개방된공간을제공함과 동시에때로는모호하게, 때로는뚜렷하게

엘리아펠리세스는이프로젝트를통해욕실의새로운환경을제안한다. <카사데코>의디자인은

일상적으로밝은색의마감재와형광등으로청결에만주목되었던욕실의공간에강렬하고역동

적인이미지를부여함으로써하나의특별한공간으로자리하게했다. 디자인에사용된주요소는

벽의 화려한패턴과 색, 그리고 조명이다. 특히 벽에 그려진 그림은 그 대담한 색과 일반적이지

않은형태로공간만의개성을갖게한다. 또한여러각도에서비추어지는빛은벽그림에음양을

줌으로써 공간에 입체적인 깊이를 더하고, 커튼을 비추는 LED 조명은 천장에서부터 보라색의

빛을 내리며 몽환적 분위기를 선사한다. 배후에서 조명된 욕조는 얼음처럼 매끈한 형태를 띠며

Elia Felices proposes a new way of understanding bathroom with ‘Show Bath’. <Casa Decor>

gives a new vision and a chance to feel unimaginable perceptions in a bathroom; the daily

sterile space now suggests another way of l ife with more intensity, dynamism and

exuberance. Colour and lighting, are the main elements used to create this scenic space. The

importance of the draw, its bold colours and unconventional forms bring personality and

strength. One of the main points has been playing with the light to achieve various effects of

color in decorative painting. Lighting by L E Ds projected onto the curtain moving space

something of theatricality, intensity, intimacy and subtlety. The bathtub brings a freezing cold

effect and that whole moving sensations of a lifestyle asset and glamorous. Text by Elia Felices

The bathtub effects on lighting
