New Cookbooks!

Staff Comings & Goings

In November, Matt Cooper became a

Page at the Fleming Library. Welcome,

Matt!

In December, James Wagner retired

from his call-in position, which he had

taken after retiring from his full-time

position. We wish him well, and expect

to see him out photographing local

scenery, while trying to avoid snapping

photos of overhead wires!

Cookbooks. Some people read them for information and inspiration, and actually make some of the recipes. Others read them so they can daydream about having the time (and the kitchen!) to do the recipes justice. No matter how you read and use cookbooks, your library has lots of new titles for you:

Inside the Test Kitchen: 120 New Recipes by Tyler Florence. In his culinary lab, Food Network star and author Florence looks into the how and why of cooking, shows you his experiments, and shares the great recipes that come out of it.

Street Food Diaries: Irresistible Recipes Inspired by the Street by Matt Basile. Irresistible and original street food recipes, plus great photos and stories of the food and people

at the core of street food culture. If it’s on a stick, in a bun, or covered in bacon, then it’s in here!

Cooking Allergy-Free: Simple Inspired Meals for Everyone by Jenna Short Each recipe is free of one or more of the most popular food allergens – wheat, milk, eggs, nuts,

shellfish, fish, soy and corn – and includes substitutions to convert the recipe for other allergens. Icons indicate recipes appropriate for those who follow a gluten-free, vegetarian or vegan diet.

The Chew: A Year of Celebrations The five hosts of ABC's hit show The Chew invite you to celebrate a full year of holidays, events, and special occasions, with recipes, entertaining tips, and crafts to make your gatherings unforgettable.

How to Cook Everything Fast by Mark Bittman The secret to cooking fast is cooking smart, and Bittman, a New York Times food columnist,

provides a game plan for becoming a better, more intuitive cook. Over 1000 pages of recipes! Sausage Making: The Definitive Guide with Recipes by Ryan Farr A master course for all skill levels, featuring an overview of tools and ingredients, step-by-step sausage-making instructions, colour photos, and 50 recipes.

Event!

Bingo! New this Year! Play Family Literacy Day Bingo! Family Literacy Day is a national awareness initiative created by ABC Life Literacy Canada in 1999 and held annually on January 27 to raise awareness of the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family. LPL is supporting Family Literacy Day with its FLD Bingo. Pick up your Bingo card at either location. Each Bingo square has a literacy activity — complete at least one row of activities and return the card by Saturday January 31 to enter into a draw! Taking time every day to read or do a learning activity with children is crucial to a child’s development. Even just 15 minutes a day can improve a child’s literacy skills dramatically!

Enter the FLD draw! You may win an LPL book bag and READ in delicious Dutch chocolate!
