Eleventh Annual Spring Fling Saturday May 20, 2017 ~ 8:45am to 4:00pm
Emerald Queen Casino Conference Center

Spring Fling is an Annual Event open to all members of South Puget Sound Chapter of ASG. This is
a fun-filled day of classes ranging from 90 minutes to all-day. There is also a Do You Own Thing.
An area has been designated for open sew time where you can finish projects from an earlier class or
bring a UFO to work on. This is a great day to meet new members and connect with long-time
members.
Registration $30.00 or $25.00 + $3000 Chapter Dollars. Kit Fees are payable to instructor at start of class.

MORNING 90 MINUTE CLASSES
Sew Simple Pineapple Elaine Ducken Class Size: 3-10
Kit Fee: No kit SESSION: 1
8.45-10.15 AM
Students will learn how to make a Pineapple block with NO waste and
NO paper piecing. Elaine will provide the pattern. You bring 2 fat
quarters if you want two colors. Bring 4 coordinating fat quarters if you
want more colors. Expect to complete at least one block in this 90-
minute class. See Supply List for additional supplies needed for this
project.

Fitting the Mature Figure Sherri Barrett Class Size: 3-10
Kit Fee: No Kit SESSION: 3

Sherri will present a lecture on how the body changes as we acquire
more decades from a physician's perspective. Then we will go on to take
measurements and make pattern recommendations. This is a class for
women who hesitate to sew for themselves because their body has
changed as they matured and clothes don't fit like they used to. Patterns
usually are made for people in their twenties and doctors likewise think
of people in their twenties to be the norm. Sherri has given this
presentation before to the Fashionistas and to the clothing and textile
advisors and is offering it for all our new members who want to sew for

Zipper Keeper June Scott Class Size: 3-10

Protect and organize your zippers while keeping them within easy reach.
This fun and easy-to-make Hanging Zipper Keeper will hold 110
zippers! Once you have made this once, you will want to make it again
as a Jewelry Keeper for gift-giving. The kit fee includes hanger, pre-cut
fabric, stabilizer, pocket vinyl, grosgrain ribbon and hooks. You bring

Badge Holder Ellen Daly Class Size: 3-6
Kit Fee: $10 SESSION: 5

Here's your chance to make your very own badge holder for all those
ASG events you attend! Whether you're new to the Guild or an
experienced sewist, this is a great project to whip up. You'll learn some
quilting and binding tips and have fun chatting with others. Kit fee
includes fabric, batting, vinyl, pattern and embroidered panel. Bring
your sewing machine and basic sewing supplies, including black and
neutral poly or cotton threads. Also bring walking foot and edge joining
foot if you have them.

Square Dance Block Cindy McKenzie Class Size: 6-10
Kit Fee: No Fee SESSION: 6

Cindy designed and will teach the Square Dance quilt block from the
Strip Your Stash book. Cindy will provide the pattern. Expect to
complete 1-2 blocks in this 3 hour class. Finished blocks are 17 ½”

Spring Sweetness Nadeen Ward Class Size: 3 - 7
Kit Fee: $25.00 SESSION: 7

Nadeen has created this darling Springtime Dress for an 18” doll.
Techniques you will learn in this 3-hour class are; lining a bodice with a
sleeve ruffle, using lace as an overlay, lettucing soft fabrics for overlay as
well as creating a Velcro closure and a simple back closure.
A kit will be provided complete with pattern. All pieces will be cut out
and notions needed will be included. There will be a few color choices,
all pastels to keep the Springtime theme. See Supply List for additional
supplies needed for this project.

Mystery and Magic Aletha Gilbreth Class Size: 3-10
Kit Fee: Aletha will contact students SESSION: 8

Aletha is at it again with another surprise class. We can’t tell you what
you’ll be making but you will go home with 3 or 4 finished items. Aletha
will contact students about 1 week ahead with what you will need to
bring. Patterns and directions will be part of a kit.

AFTERNOON 90 MINUTE CLASSES
Heart-to-Heart Church Doll Carolyn Elliott Class Size: 3-10
Kit Fee: $20 SESSION: 14
12.45 – 2.15 PM
The skirt has lace-shaped heart and scallops just above the shadow
hem. Shaped pintucks echo the lace scallops and heart. Embroidery
designs are included for either a sleepy-time or awake face and
small floral design. This doll wears a sweet little bonnet with lace
and pintucks.
The kit contains: ½ yard white batiste, 1-½” ball of fiberfill, ½ yard
of white floss, one 4” square of fusible tricot interfacing, 1 yard of
5/8” insertion lace, 1/8 yard of 5/8” edging lace, 7/8 yard of 1/8”
ribbon, and water-soluble stabilizer. See Supply List for additional

Madeira Bonnet Carolyn Elliott Class Size: 3-10
Kit Fee: $25 SESSION: 15
2.30 – 4.00PM
The front edge of the brim is finished with a double-scalloped
Madeira border and gathered lace edging embellishes the seam.
Narrow silk satin ribbon is run through a back casing, making the
size adjustable, and two tiny little silk satin ribbon bows attach the
wider ribbon ties.
The kit contains: ¼ yard Swiss batiste (white or pastels), white
handkerchief linen, 3/4 yards 7/8" edging lace, 14" white entredeux
40” white 1/4" silk satin ribbon, 1 yard white 5/8" silk satin ribbon
2 ribbon bows, wash-away stabilizer and 14” Tiger Tape. See

Valet Snap Tray June Scott Class Size: 3-10

This versatile little tray is great gift for the men in your life and has
many uses. Just snap the corners together and it's ready to hold
small items when travelling and it unsnaps to lay flat when it’s
time to pack your suitcase. Useful at home too! This is a quick
project to sew and you will learn to use the KamSnap tool to add
your choice of colored snaps to the finished project. See Supply

BBQ Camo-Style Apron June Scott Class Size: 3-10

The slip’n slide strap makes this apron comfortable to wear and fits
all heights and sizes. The project is perfect for BBQ season. Kit
includes pre-cut apron, pattern and complete instructions, a
finished tie and grommet-setting service. Your choice of Desert or
Pink Camo print in bottom weight. Your choice of brass or nickel
grommets. This is a great opportunity to practice buttonholes as
there are 4 of them hidden in the facing. A great apron to

Domino Jewelry Nadeen Ward Class Size: 3 - 12
Kit Fee: $12.00 SESSION: 18

Make pendants, magnets and bookmarks and get your imagination
flowing using alcohol inks to do a faux marble look. This is so easy and
each one is a work of art. You bring a cover-up to keep your clothes
clean and Nadeen will provide the rest! Kit includes Dominoes in two
sizes, some with hanging loops and some with magnets, bookmarks,
cotton balls, swabs, and an assortment of things to help in the dye process.
We will share dyes and rubber stamps to complete the project. You will
go home with 2-3 necklace pieces and an assortment of magnets and a
bookmark. All completed!

Are you looking for an interesting way to use your husband's, boyfriend's
or son's old but beautiful dress shirt or that really pretty Hawaiian shirt,
that they have discarded? Well this is the class for you!!! Let's use your
imagination and style a beautiful upcycled shirt that fits your personality.
We will be taking 2-3 shirts and combining them into a stylish shirt to
wear with your leggings, jeans and shorts. We will provide the shirts,
but if you have one you want to start with, bring it on, and let's have
some fun... If you bring your own shirts: the main one must fit your
shoulders closely. We can adjust and make the bust larger, but not the

Have you purchased a bra kit and not made it up yet? Shirley Lee is here
to help! Shirley attended the Anne St. Clair class several years ago and
has made at least a dozen bras since. She will help you with sewing a
bra and understanding the instructions and will bring a copy of Anne St.
Claire’s book, “Intimately Yours” for student reference during the class.

Wave Tote Sue Woods Class Size: 5-10
Kit Fee: No Fee SESSION: 10

Join Sue to make your very own Wave Tote! The tote has two pockets
on the outside, two inside and a spacious interior. The Wave Tote is
easy to construct using basic sewing and quilting techniques. Sue has
simplified the pattern so that it can be finished in a day. If pattern is not
available, Sue will provide it. See Supply List for additional supplies

A Vest of Simple Curves Utahna Slater Class Size: 3-6

Utahna will teach you how to make her vest using a coordinated group of
different prints, solids and stripes. Your vest will be a one-of-a-kind.
Students should be able to assemble the vest in class and may need to
finish the bias trim at home. See Supply List for additional supplies

A great class for people wanting to get started sewing with knits. We’ll
begin with a basic T-Shirt pattern and talk about ways to do some minor
alterations and design changes. Then to the pattern! To the Scissor! To
the Sewing Machine or Serger! Voila! Your very own t-shirt, and a little
bit more. Paper for design and alterations changes to your pattern will be

Supply Lists
General supplies for all classes requiring a sewing machine:
A sewing machine in good working order, the foot pedal and power cords, with extra feet
as desired. General sewing supplies such as pins, scissors, rotary cutter, ruler, thread,
bobbins, seam ripper, etc. Personal cutting mat and/or ironing station, if desired. See
below for information specific to individual classes.
A Vest of Simple Curves:
Students will need to bring: A vest pattern that fits well
• At least 6 different fabrics in coordinating design and tones 1/2 yard each
• Bias trim add 1/4 yard if you want to use same fabric as fabric used
o OR, 2 packages of black bias trim
• 1 yard of Muslin
• Thread to blend
