L. Carmichael, Sr., Senior Pastor and Overseer and First Lady, Dr. Rebecca Carmichael East Campus: Pastor Joshua Carmichael, 5271 EBC Village Way, Knightdale, NC 27545| West Campus: 4729 New Bern Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27610 | 919-231-6418 From the desk of the Pastor Courageous Love Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. (Joshua 1:9) It takes courage to love. When we receive the grace of God which is undeserving, we understand the extraordinary love that He has for us. As we examine our hearts, let us embrace God’s love and forgiveness and love others. In John 15:12-13, Jesus defined love in terms of sacrificial actions rather than words or emotions. He said, “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends”(John 15:13). How we treat people demonstrates to the world that we are followers of Christ. Because He first loved us, we can show love to the undeserving. Jesus did not simply suggest that we love others; He commands us to love. Christ’s instructions to the disciples raised the standard for how we are to treat others -- thinking of their needs before our own. We are to walk in sacrificial love. Beyond our words, our deeds should convey God’s love, “ Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God” (Ephesians 5:1- 2) How will you demonstrate courageous love in 2015? Will you buy a homeless person a meal? Will you run errands for an elderly neighbor who suffers from arthritis? Will you pay for a young mother’s groceries? Will you bring someone to church? Will you tell the person standing behind you in line about God’s saving grace? As you consider your next act of courageous love remember this: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16) What an awesome example of courageous love! This year I encourage you to seek opportunities to demonstrate courageous love toward the people around you. Don’t be afraid. Be courageous. Amazed by His Grace, Dr. T.L.
