ELEMENTS OF DESIGN NILESH KRISHNAA B A (I . D) 133706006 P . A. R SHAPE: When a line crosses itself or intersects with other lines to enclose a space, it creates a shape. Shape is two-dimensional and has height and width, but no depth. CATEGORIES: Geometric shapes , organic shapes , positive , negative , dynamic & static shapes . CONTEXT : The different geometric shapes in the wall design gives lively exposure to the space. FORM : Form is the three-dimensionality of an object. Shape is only two- dimensional; form is three-dimensional. You can hold a form, walk around a form, and in some cases walk inside a form. CATEGORIES : There are two types of form, geometric (man-made) and natural (organic form). Form may be created by the combining of two or more shapes. CONTEXT : The wall design with its freeform with its fine graphic perforations gives a wonderful space. TEXTURE : Texture is the surface quality of an object. A rock may be rough and jagged. Texture also refers to the illusion of roughness or smoothness in a picture. TYPES OF TEXTURE: 1.Tactile texture is the actual three-dimension feel of a surface that can be touched 2.Visual texture is the texture you can see , but you cannot feel. CONTEXT : The rough texture gives a rustic feel in the design . LINE : An element of art used to define shape, contours, and outlines; also to suggest mass and volume. It may be a continuous mark made on a surface with a pointed tool or implied by the edges of shapes and forms. TYPES OF LINES : Outlines , Contour lines ,Gesture lines , sketch lines , Calligraphic lines , Implied lines . CHARACTERISTICS : Width - thick, thin, tapering, uneven Length - long, short, continuous, broken Direction- horizontal, vertical, diagonal, curving, perpendicular, oblique, parallel, radial, zigzag Focus- sharp, blurry, fuzzy, choppy Feeling- sharp, jagged, graceful, smooth CONTEXT : The horizontal lines in the room design makes the spaces more bigger and lengthier . COLOR : Color is very expressive and an exciting element of art. It appeals strongly to the senses and emotions. Color can communicate in all different ways, it can be very powerful thing in art work. Art works can communicate by color alone. It can cause emotional reactions. CATEGORIES OF COLOR : COLOR HARMONIES : Monochromatic , Analogous , triadic . CONTEXT: The use of colors in the design gives a a energetic mood to the user.
