SHAPE
A two dimensional area created by connecting the lines to make an object
They can be positive or negative shapes
They can be biomorphic or abstract, and geometric like a triangle, square, and or circle
Shapes vary by their color, texture, and or value

FORM
This is a three-dimensional shape
It has volume, dimension and mass
Forms can be geometric or metamorphic
They are generally used to sculpt and create

VALUE
A variation of lights and darks
Can start out light and get dark or vise versa
You can create shadows by using value

Let’s pick out the VALUES!

COLOR
Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet. ROYGBIV!!

There are warm and cool colors
There are primary (RED, YELLOW, BLUE) secondary (PURPLE, GREEN, ORANGE) intermediate, analogous, and complementary

TEXTURE
Rough, smooth, rugged, grainy, slippery, calloused, sticky…these are just a few of the abundant possibilities of surface texture
![Page 14: Elements of Art Lesson](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022061616/55615050d8b42aa20d8b4dff/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
What kind of TEXTURE is this?
![Page 15: Elements of Art Lesson](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022061616/55615050d8b42aa20d8b4dff/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
SPACE
Can be limited like the confines of a closet. It can be extensive like outer space or shallow like a pond. It can also be as deep as the Ocean.
Two-Dimensional space has height and width
Three-Dimensional space has height, width, time and volume.
Perspective comes into play with space especially when you want to create depth and distance in a drawing or painting.

WHAT KIND OF SPACES DO YOU SEE? DO THESE PICTURES TAKE OF SPACE?
Shallow, Deep, Two-Dimensional, or Three-Dimensional?!
