ELEKTROTOM® 640

This powerful unit is intended for

universal use in all surgical disci-

plines. While offering all the classic

functions of a high quality HF

generator, it also caters for the more

specialised needs of modern surgical

techniques. A greater degree of

function in general surgery, gynae-

cology, urology, gastroenterology

and endoscopic supported surgery

are combined with the highest

degree of safety for the patient and

user.

Using computer controlled

cutting and coagulation this

BERCHTOLD high-tech unit

combines an ease of use

and function with a degree

of safety that is unsurpassed

on an international level.

Fully Automatic Cutting with ComputerControlled Micro-arcTechnology

• The fully automatic nature of the process negates the need to pre-select output settings. This is particularly advantageous when changing instruments.

• During precision cutting, surround-ing tissues are protected by an automatically adjusted output. While the cutting power remains adequate, output is held to a minimum. The sensor technology takes into account the character-istics of the tissues to be cut, their changes during the cutting processand the geometry of the electrode being used.

• Offering a constant degree of tissue charring while cutting, five types of cutting current are available for the endoscopically supported surgery. There is a minimum of smoke production.

• Intelligent software assists during transurethral resection with flush-ing and by gastroenterological procedures such as polypectomy, papillotomy etc.

Computer Controlled Current Type duringCoagulation Procedures

• Pre-selected current types for soft and forced coagulation together with spray fulguration may be directed to two individual elec-trode handles. The two circuits remain independent of each other.

• Soft coagulation (micro-arc free, low power coagulation) for tissue protective haemostasis with a minimum of electrode crusting or sticking and reduced tissue carbon-isation.

• Forced coagulation (standard coagulation) for quick and effec-tive haemostasis in heavily bleeding areas using a pulsed, energy-rich, micro-arc technology.Speed of coagulation and tissue carbonisation are characteristics ofthis type of current.

• Spray coagulation (fulguration) for a non-contact haemostasis covering larger, surface areas or in parenchymal tissue bleeding. This type of coagulation is charac-terised by a high energy, pulsed macro-arc discharge and is also suitable for surface use when irrigating or flushing (TUR; arthro-scopic procedures).

• The spray coagulation option may be used in conjunction with other equipment to achieve inert gas coagulation in argon.

• Bipolar coagulation with forceps using up to 100 Watts allows a safe and effective coagulation.

Non-touch, spray coagulation

Micro-arc free, bipolar coagulation prevents “sticking” of the electrode branches

Ergonomic and SimpleUnit Controls

• Foil covered, digital displays and obvious symbols ensure ease of use of the unit even in the dark-ened operating theatre.

• Modern, finger pressure sensors allow the adjustment of unit settings.

• Further simplicity is achieved by the non-display of irrelevant func-tion readings.

• Audio (“spoken”), verification of unit function and confirmation of foot and finger switch activation.

• Attachment provision for multiple cutting and coagulation instru-ments in monopolar, bipolar and tripolar mode for use in open or minimal invasive surgery.

• Futuristic orientated instrument recognition via coding.

“Auto”matic duringMonopolar and BipolarCoagulation

• Sensor technology controlled coagulation with an automatic cut-off to prevent excess tissue over-heating and electrode sticking.

• A fully automatic bipolar coag-ulation with forceps is possible without foot or finger switching via automated Auto-start and Auto-stop circuitry.

• Repeatable coagulation’s effects ensure a high degree of user security.

• Physical protection against unwanted heat transfer effects, particularly in laparoscopically assisted procedures.

• The consequent use of bipolar techniques negates the need of a neutral electrode.

Safe Technology in theInterests of the Patient

• Programme controlled self-check-ing of software, the unit and attached accessories takes place each time the generator is switched on.

• Real time control of patient con-tact with the neutral electrode via continual, electronic measurement.

• Automatic detection of split orsingle neutral electrode.

• Automatic monitoring for leaked HF current, “active” time and non-programmed output.

Future Orientated Service Planning

• Unit malfunction is automatically detected and displayed as a codedmessage for user or service per-sonnel.

• An RS 232 data transfer connectionis provided to assist in telephone diagnosis or service personnel programming.

Memory Programming

• Four programmable memory sectors are quickly accessible for the programming of front panel parameters.

• Basic unit functions are re-pro-grammed when switching on the unit.
