Helicopter Visit Last Thursday 29 August we had a visit from Mr Dwayne Sharrock and the helicopter that Years 3 and 4 had been learning about. I would like to extend a special thank you to everyone for their very productive input leading to the success of this visit. It was very generous of Dwayne to provide this opportunity for the parents and students and we wish to express our thanks to you from the Eleebana Public School learning community. This was another example of all teams working closely together for an excellent learning opportunity. Thinking of Selling? One of the school’s corporate supporters is McGraths Estate Agents at Warners Bay. They are offering support to our P&C through either of the following programs: If you are selling or considering selling your home in the next 30-60 days, contact Anthony Dinardo at McGraths Estate Agents Warners Bay on 4944 5639 or mobile 0416 007 504. Library News Premier’s Reading Challenge 2013 has now finished. This week’s congratulations go to Abbey, Lachlan, Jordyn, Nicholas, Ben, Zachary, Ava Tom, Brooke, Sarah all from 1L, Ely 1K, Scarlett 3/4E and Bronson 6J bringing our total to 258 students. The best performing grades were Year 1 with 62.8% and Year 2 with 60.8% participation. 2 classes had 100%, well done 2G and 1L. Other commendable efforts were: KM, 2B, 3H, 5H and 6J. 2014 Reading Logs will be sent home early in Term 4 to allow for an early start on next year’s challenge.

The results are in from the Tassie Devil survey. The students have voted to adopt a girl (333 votes to 164) and to help build a fence with our extra funds. Students have until Friday, 6

th September to enter the competition

to name our devil. Entries are to be returned to Mrs Forbes with the nominated name, an explanation about the name, their own name and class. Entries will then be short-listed and the school will vote during library time on the name, the winner will receive a prize and runners-up a merit award. Put those creative thinking caps on!

Those who read – succeed! Robyn Forbes

P & C President Hi everyone, I hope all our Dad’s had a wonderful Father’s day. I had a great day with my girls. Last week was the busiest of the year so far with so much going on at our great school. The canteen hosted Fruit and Veg week to encourage healthy eating. Each day there was a special healthy menu on offer. Each day was well supported however Wednesday was the standout with our volunteers making 77 salad wraps. That’s a massive effort! A big thanks to all our volunteers in the canteen last week who worked tirelessly to get all the lunches out on time. Our fundraising coordinator Nicki Walpole with the assistance of many others ran a very successful Father’s Day stall during the week. There is a lot a work that goes into such events, so on behalf of all the school thanks to all our volunteers for all your efforts. I know the children really enjoyed their little shopping trip and it was great to receive a couple handy gifts this morning from a very excited daughter. On Thursday we decided to do something a little different and cook a BBQ dinner for the disco. I’m pleased to say that the idea was well supported for a first effort so we will look to continue these going forward. Thanks to all my helpers on the night, Mr Garas, Lily, Claire and Abbey on a great job. To cap off the week we held our Father’s Day breakfast on Friday morning. It was fantastic to see many Dad’s, grand dads, mums and grandmothers have breakfast with their kids and grandkids at school. There were some games played and everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves. The feedback has been very positive so hopefully we can make this an annual event. Don’t worry mum’s, there will be one in your honour next May. Cooking 220 bacon and egg rolls in an hour was a massive effort so a huge thanks to all the team, Mr Jones, Mr Lewis, Mr May, Mrs Elsworthy, Mrs Graham, Mrs McDonald, Mr Patjl, Lily and Claire. Thanks also Mr Lewis and Mr May who came to school really early to set up. WOW what a week! Upcoming events Hamilton Island Holiday Raffle Today we are pleased to launch our annual Spring Fair Raffle to be drawn at the Fair, Saturday, October 19

th. Coming home today is one raffle ticket book

for each family to sell or buy. This is one of our major fundraisers for the year so I do hope everyone gets behind it. We have plenty of extra books so please let me know if you’d like some more. If you do not wish to participate please send back your book and the return slip as by law we need to account for all tickets. A big thankyou to Kathy Eftimovski in coordinating this big job, I really appreciate it. Have a great week everyone.

Matthew Sommerville

Helicopter visit Last Thursday a helicopter landed on our Eleebana PS school oval, and guess who was in it?? Mr Dwayne Sharrock!! Mr Sharrock is Riley’s (3/4E) dad. Before last Thursday Mr Sharrock had been to talk to Stage 2 about aer-oplanes and ejection seats. He talked a lot to us about weight, lift, drag and thrust. It was really interesting and we all learnt a lot. Last Tuesday he came in again. This time to talk to 3/4E about helicop-ters. He talked to us then about turning the helicopter using the cyclic pitch lever and making it go up and down using the collective pitch lever. We found out about the blades on a helicopter, the tail rotor and the main rotor. When he told us that he would land a helicopter in the schools top oval we were all so excited and we were looking forward to it all week!!! It was amazing and everyone got excited. We all cheered and clapped as he demonstrated some helicopter moves. He went up, sideways and in all different directions. It was good that he came in before to explain because we could shout what levers he was using when he landed. The Cyclic Pitch or the Collec-tive Pitch!! And it was Riley’s birthday on Friday, so he got to ride home in the heli-copter, what a wonderful birthday present! Thank you to all the teachers, office staff, ground staff and lots, lots more for organizing the helicopter visit. Mrs Evans told us it took a lot of effort. Safety was very important, next came learning, and then fun!! I think we were very safe, we learnt a lot, and I’m sure everyone had fun. The whole school says thank you to Dwayne and we all hope you can come back again!! Teia 3/4E
