Driver fatigue management is a crucial part of workplace health and safety in the road freight transport industry. It’s also one of the most difficult to regulate and enforce. As a transport operator, you’ll soon have the option of replacing inefficient paper logbooks with Electronic Work Diaries (EWDs). These will capture real-time data from your vehicles and calculate against fatigue laws, helping to keep your drivers safe and your business compliant.
Teletrac Navman commissioned ACA Research to produce this report. The primary aim was to gauge current perceptions of EWDs within the road freight transport industry. With important regulatory changes on the horizon, this research looks at what role EWDs will play in managing compliance, monitoring driver performance and improving operational efficiency for fleets of all shapes and sizes.

Benefits of EWDs are consistently linked back to performance monitoring and compliance, with larger fleets more likely to recognise the benefits they can offer
One in ten road transport businesses currently use EWDs, mainly those running larger fleets
Another quarter of road transport fleets plan to introduce EWDs in 2017, including a third of those with six or more trucks
