Electronic Health Care Systems

What is Electronic healthcare system?

E-care system are database Management system which is based on computer networks and advance

database to construct, maintain and maniple the data in DBMS. Electronic health care systems are design

to store patient medical history on system. The DBMS can track and update all the information of recorded

patients in the healthcare center during a particular time span. The major advantage of E-Health database

is to easily retrieve and update the data efficiently.

Why Electronic healthcare system

Electronic health care so important because your health record tells your doctor about your health history. Your

Doctor can use that information to give you the best care .Specifically, the use of standardized electronic

health records will improve health care quality and safety, and reduce healthcare costs.

II. Reduce the cost of managing patient recode

III. Improve the care coordination

IV. Efficient then Manual file System

Health care Standard

There are many healthcare system are used in many countries. Most of the systems design have No

compatibility if incorporate the record of other system for example if person wish to move for UK to USA

and want to get his/her medical history electronic and want registered him/herself in USA hospital there

is overhead of to store his/her medical history in USA’s hospital because HCS in USA have different

standard then in UK. Researcher realized that there should be a worldwide standard for health care system

for better communication and sharing of medical record.

Health Level Seven International [1] is standard for healthcare system used world widely. Health Level

Seven International (HL7) is the global authority on standards for interoperability of health information

technology with members in over 55 countries.HL7 - HL7 messages are used for interchange between

hospital and physician record systems and between EMR systems and practice management systems; HL7

Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) documents are used to communicate documents such as physician

notes and other material.

ISO - ISO TC215[2] has defined the EHR, and also produced a technical specification ISO 18308 describing

the requirements for EHR Architectures.

openEHR[3] - next generation public specifications and implementations for EHR systems and

communication, based on a complete separation of software and clinical models.



Advantages and disadvantage of Electronic Healthcare System

Advantages of EHCS

I. Faster care and decisions making response from medical professional

II. Rapid data entry

III. Easy to manage rather than managing file system

IV. Reduce the cost

V. Increase quality of Healthcare

VI. Ever clinician knows the importance of Patient Record

VII. Allow quick transfer of data from one department to another

VIII. Reduced operational costs such as transcription services and overtime labor expenses

Disadvantages of EHCS

I. Disadvantages of EMRs include large start-up costs II. EHCS is compromised by administrator of that system

III. Difficult to prove the security of record

IV. It’s difficult to guaranteed that your record would never be changed
