    An understanding of Electricity and Electronics is a primary requirement inall branches of engineering and science education. A challenging andinteresting medium is required to hold the attention of students in such amulti-discipline area of study.

    The wide range of work boards available from Feedback meets the majorityof needs in academic, vocational and industrial training establishments,and provide a hands-on approach.

    Hardware is supported by comprehensive teaching manuals and, in manycases, detailed Discovery software for Computer Assisted Learning isavailable. Discovery courseware provides the student with on-screenassignments and PC based instrumentation when applicable.

    The work boards can be used in two ways, depending on the methodologyrequired.

    The use of conventional instruments oscilloscope, frequency and digitalmultimeters etc. in making measurements is of importance in the trainingof service technicians and engineers. The use of PC based instrumentationand courseware offers a reduction on lab requirements for conventional testequipment and is more suited to general electricity and electronic coursetraining needs.

    Two types of work boards are available, one that requires the circuit to beconstructed by the student from discrete components mounted on pin carriersand the other that has pre-mounted components required for a specific areaof study.

    Discovery software is Feedbacks continuously evolving software package thatis used to develop the Discovery Courseware.Discovery courseware presents on-screen student assignments that guide thestudent through the practical exercises and provide the theory for the subjectbeing studied. The software also provides a PC based instrument toolbox thatis made available for specific products which need the use of measuringinstruments, such as an oscilloscope, digital voltmeter, frequency meter andspectrum analyser. The instrument toolbox can be launched by the studentwhen instructed to do so from the course instructions.To obtain the full benefit of Discovery courseware the Teknikit Console 92-300-1 is required. The console provides power supplies for the various workboards and two BNC inputs conveniently positioned near the consoles upperedge for the PC based instrumentation.The Teknikit console is a robust bench-top unit that provides a platform for bothtypes of work-boards; either self-constructed circuits or pre-mounted types.

    The range of work boards detailed in this section of the brochure fall intotwo categories:

    A. Self construction circuit trainers EEC470 seriesThese trainers consist of discrete components mounted on small printedcircuit carriers, which vary, depending on the mounted component, from 2-pindevices through to 16-pin integrated circuits. Power semi-conductorcomponents, in many circumstances, are mounted on plug-in heat sinks.Other large components and assemblies have metal or large PCB carriers.This series of products is used with the Electricity & Electronics ConstructorDeck EEC470. The carrier-mounted components are plugged into the decksspring contact matrix to build the circuit to be investigated.

    B. Pre-mounted circuit trainers OAT343 through to 13 series productsThese trainers have pre-mounted components on the circuit boards,conveniently laid out in a circuit format that requires the minimum amountof interconnection. There is very little preparation required by the student tostart the assignments, which leaves maximum time for investigation of theassignment objectives.Both categories of work boards require an external power supply that canbe provided by one of three options:1. Bench top mounted open printed circuit board unit, model number 92-445.

    Ideal for use when training is required with conventional instrumentation.

    2. Bench top mounted Teknikit console, model number 92-300.This model can be upgraded to the same specification as the 92-300-1to include the Virtual Instrumentation.

    3. Bench top mounted Teknikit console, model number 92-300-1.In addition to the required power supplies this unit has inputs for virtualinstrumentation that in-conjunction with Discovery courseware providesa range of virtual test instruments.

    The range of electronic circuitsis supplied as two sets ofboards: Fault Finding (13-201)and Electronic Servicing(13-202). Each requires theApplications Console (13-107)& a Teknikit Console (92-300-1),which provide built-in powersupplies and VirtualInstrumentation softwareinstruments.Alternatively, the board setscan be used with conventionaltest instruments and powersupplies from either the 92-300console, or the 92-445 openboard power supply.

    The two options available offerthe use of either virtual, orconventional instrumentation.The choice will depend on theteaching methodologyrequired. The virtual instru-mentation route offersconsistency and repeatabilityin training and a reduction ininstrumentation cost, whilstthe use of conventionalinstruments provides a moretraditional feel.The 92-445 power supply is recommended for use with either of the above

    Applications Board 24-200A range of microprocessors, microcontrollers and programmable logic modules isavailable which are used primarily with the Applications Board 24-200.It is recommended that the 24-200 be used with the trainers if the coursewareprovided with each trainer is to be followed.The controllers have a common I/O bus and are supported by a range of cross-development, assembly language, software packages working from the host PC.All communication software operates with Windows 98, XP and NT.

    The Stepper Motor Module 24-201 plugs into the Applications Board via aribbon cable to port 3, and requires the driver IC supplied, to be inserted in theappropriate socket on the 24-200 board before testing of programs can begin.The Stepper Motor is mounted on a panel marked with 30 degree incrementsand is fitted with a pointer that can be removed so that the output shaft can beconnected to an application if desired. Exercises involving forward, reverse andstep rate can be implemented, and also routines that involve a combination ofthese movements.

    The Liquid Crystal Display Module 24-202 provides extensive programmingpossibilities in the use of this type of display for announcements and warningmessages, as used on small instruments or large public displays such as thosefound at stations and airports etc. The techniques for rolling, flashing oralternating messages can be practised.

    This is a highly versatile board,compatible with all our microtrainer hardware or a PC.It is ideal for teaching thebasics of microprocessorprogramming and applicationssuch as decision making,D/A and A/D conversion, openand closed-loop control, delayloops, sub-routines & eventcounting.It covers the techniques ofmicro control of delay loops,sub-routines & event counting.Fibre optics, keyboard entry,digital sound production, dcmotor control, infra-redsensing, heating and coolingand visual displays.Optional applications asextensions to the 24-200 areavailable Stepper Motor24-201 and Liquid CrystalDisplay 24-202.

    The 24-102 is a comprehensive single board computer, based on theMotorola MC68HC11 micro-controller unit (MCU). The unit may be used asa development system or trainer.A suitable dc power supply and comprehensive user manual is supplied.It is recommended that the Applications Board 24-200 be used with thisproduct to fully utilise the exercises provided in the accompanying studentsmanual.

    ProgrammingA ROM-resident monitor allows user programs to be assembled quickly on aline-by-line basis, then run and debugged. More advanced programs may beassembled on the host PC using the cross-development software 24-904.The assembled code may then be downloaded, run and debugged.A serial cable and power supply is supplied with the Trainer.

    The 24-121 is a comprehensive computer board based on the 8-bit Z80microprocessor. The board may be used as a development system forAssembler and Machine Code programs.The EPROM based monitor provides a user interface to any standard PC viaa serial port. A comprehensive user and experiment manual is supplied.Cross-assembler 24-922 and applications boards are also available.It is recommended that the Applications Board 24-200 be used with this productto fully utilise the exercises provided in the accompanying students manual.

    ProgrammingPrograms are entered directly into memory in Hexadecimal format ordownloaded from the host in Intel Hex format. A clear graphical displayenables line-by-line assembler programs to be entered and disassembled.Powerful monitor facilities enable programs to be debugged easily, displayregister contents on screen and give direct access to cross-developmentsoftware. On-board static ROM and EPROM are provided.

    To operate the 24-121 a PC is required that runs an operating system ofWIN 98 or higher.

    The 24-131 is designed as a general purpose unit that simplifies the teachingof the 8086 CPU and its commonly used peripherals.The 8086 16-bit microprocessor and a set of associated peripheral devices arefitted to this computer board and it is supplied complete with an on boardEPROM based complete monitor.Driven from a PC serial port, this product is compatible with the 8086 assembler24-945 and the Applications Board 24-200.User and experiment manuals are supplied along with a suitable dc power supply.It is recommended that the Applications Board 24-200 be used with this productto fully utilise the exercises provided in the accompanying students manual.

    ProgrammingAssembler code programs can be entered into the integral LINE-by-LINEassembler, Disassembled and debugged with the powerful MONITOR facilities.LINE-assembled programs can also be saved and reloaded, when required.Both Register and Memory contents can be displayed on the screen in theirown windows and a Watch Window enables specific selected memory locationsto be monitored.

    Based on the MC68000 16-bit microprocessor, this is a complete computersuitable for many stand-alone applications, especially for real-time control,where power and speed are important. It is supplied with comprehensiveEPROM based monitor, line-by-line assembler programs and PC compatiblecommunications software.     ProgrammingPrograms are developed on a PC and downloaded into an In systemprogrammable (ISP) device. Devices may be repeatedly programmed withoutremoval from the hardware. LATTICE ISP Design Expert Starter Software issupplied, including ISP Encyclopaedia, applications notes, Design techniques,lattice data book and ISP development and download software. The hardwareis also compatible with the LATTICE ISP Design Expert Software Pack.

    Programmable Interface Controllers (PICs) are a family of low cost ReductionInstruction Set Computer (RISC) micro-controllers that are powerful and easyto use.The 28-122, is based on the versatile microchip PIC16F877 CMOS FLASHdevice in a 44 pin PLCC and has in-circuit debugging. It can be used for variousapplications; as a target board or for educational purposes. It can also be usedas a stand-alone via a serial port to a PC, allowing easy downloads of controlcode, developed using Microchips MPLAB software or high level languagedevelopment software.The system is capable of running at clock speeds of 20MHz or above. Thesedevices are based on the Harvard architecture of separate program and datastorage areas and are self contained systems providing on-chip RAM orFLASH RAM (program area) and I/O.The 28-122 is supplied with a suitable dc power supply, software CD, hard copymanual, and CD manual.It is recommended that the Applications Board 24-200 be used with this productto fully utilise the exercises provided in the accompanying students manual.
