Installation method
VVM 225 consists of water heater with charge coil, ex-pansion vessel, safety valves, filler valve, immersionheater, circulation pump and control system.
VVM 225 is directly adapted for connection and commu-nication with NIBE SPLIT HBS 05 / F2040 / F2120, whichtogether constitute a complete heating installation.
NIBE SPLIT HBS 05 / F2040 / F2120 covers most of theheating and hot water requirement down to the heatpump’s stop temperature. If the outdoor temperaturedrops to a level below the heat pump’s stop temperat-ure, all heating is then provided using VVM 225.
The system requires the radiator circuit to be designedfor a low temperature heating medium. At the lowestdimensioned outdoor temperature (DOT), the highestrecommended temperatures are 55 °C on the supplyline and 45 °C on the return line, but VVM 225 canhandle up to 70 °C. For correct dimensioning of the heatpump, NIBE dimensioning programNIBE DIM is recom-mended.
A system with VVM 225 and NIBE compatible air/waterheat pumps means a complete, energy-saving installa-tion. VVM 225 can be supplemented with several differ-ent accessories.

Electrical installationELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
GeneralAll electrical equipment, except the outdoor sensors, room sensors and the current sensors are ready connec-ted at the factory.
• Disconnect the electric boiler/indoor module beforeinsulation testing the property.
• If the building is equipped with an earth-fault breaker,VVM 225 should be equipped with a separate one.
• The electrical wiring diagram for the indoor modulecan be found in the Installer manual.
• A screened three-core cable is used as the communic-ation cable.
• Communication and sensor cables to external connec-tions must not be laid close to high current cables.
• The minimum area of communication and sensorcables to external connections must be 0.5 mm² upto 50, for example EKKX or LiYY or equivalent.
• When cable routing in VVM 225, cable grommets UB1and UB2 must be used. In UB1 and UB2, the cablesare inserted through the indoor module from the backto the front. (See the Installer Manual.)
Electrical installation and service must be carried outunder the supervision of a qualified electrician. Cut thecurrent with the circuit breaker before carrying out anyservicing. Electrical installation and wiring must be car-ried out in accordance with the stipulations in force.
Miniature circuit-breakerThe indoor module and a large proportion of its internalcomponents are internally fused by a miniature circuitbreaker.
Temperature limiterThe temperature limiter (FQ1) cuts the power supply tothe electric additional heat, if the temperature rises tobetween 90 and 100 °C and it is reset manually.
SETTINGS
Electric additional heat – maximum outputThe immersion heater can be set up to a maximum of9 kW.
The immersion heater output is divided into seven steps, according to the table in the Installer Manual.
Setting maximum output in the electric additional heatis done in menu 5.1.12.
Emergency modeWhen the indoor module’s switch (SF1) is set to emer-gency mode, only the most essential functions are ac-tivated.
• Hot water production stops.
• The load monitor is not connected.
• Fixed temperature in the supply line.

Regular checksYour electric boiler/indoor module is, in principle, main-tenance free and therefore requires the minimal careafter commissioning. However, it is recommended thatyou check your installation regularly.
Aminimum level of maintenance is required. Only safetyvalves require checking. All essential components canbe accessed from the front. This facilitates service andmaintenance.
If something unusual occurs, messages about the mal-function appear in the display in the form of differentalarm texts.

Maintenance of VVM 225
Control, generalThe indoor temperature depends on several differentfactors. Sunlight and heat emissions from people andhousehold machines are normally sufficient to keep thehouse warm during the warmer parts of the year. Whenit gets colder outside, the climate system must bestarted. The colder it is outside, the warmer radiatorsand under floor heating system must be.
Control of the heat production is performed based onthe "floating condensing" principle, which means thatthe temperature level needed for heating at a specificoutdoor temperature is produced based on collectedvalues from the outdoor and supply temperaturesensors. The room sensor can also be used to com-pensate the deviation in room temperature.
Heat productionThe supply of heat to the house is regulated inaccordance with the heating curve setting se-lected. After adjustment, the correct amount
of heat for the current outdoor temperature is supplied. The supply temperature of the heat pump will oscillatearound the theoretically required value.
OWN CURVEVVM225 has pre-programmed non-linear heating curves. It is also possible to create your own defined curve. Thisis an individual linear curve with a number of breakpoints. You select break points and the associatedtemperatures.
Hot water productionHot water charging starts when the temperat-ure has fallen to the set start temperature. Hotwater charging stops when the hot water
temperature at the hot water sensor has been reached.
For occasional higher hot water demand, there is afunction called "temporary lux" that allows the temperat-ure to be raised via one time increase or up to 12 hours(selected in the menu system).
With the Smart Control function activated, VVM 225learns how much hot water is used and when. TheSmart Control function memorises the previous week’shot water consumption and adapts the hot water tem-perature for the comingweek to ensureminimal energyconsumption.
It is also possible to set VVM 225 in holiday mode, whichmeans that the lowest possible temperature is achievedwithout the risk of freezing.
Docking, heat pumpVVM 225 can be dockedwith NIBE air/water heat pump.
See table on page 7.
Alarm indicationsThe status lamp lights red in the event of an alarm andthe display shows detailed information depending onthe fault. An alarm log is created with each alarm con-taining a number of temperatures, times and operatingstatus.

You can obtain a good overall view, allowing you tomonitor and control the heating and hot water comforteffectively. If the system is affected by a malfunction, you receive an alert via e-mail that allows you to reactquickly.
NIBE Uplink also gives you the opportunity to controlthe comfort in your home easily, no matter where youare.
RANGE OF SERVICESYou have access to different levels of service via NIBEUplink. A basic level that is free and a premium levelwhere you can select different extended service func-tions for a fixed annual subscription fee (the subscriptionfee varies depending on the selected functions).
NIBE Uplink also available as an app from App Store andGoogle Play.
INSTALLATION AND ASSOCIATEDEQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTSThe following is required in order for NIBE Uplink tofunction with the installation:
• Network cable (straight, at least Cat 5E UTP).
• Internet connection.
• Web browser that supports JavaScript.
If it is not possible to connect to NIBE Uplink, VVM 225can be controlled remotely via text message. For this, the SMS 40 accessory is required.
For further presentation, visit nibeuplink.com.
NIBE SMART PRICE ADAPTION™Smart Price Adaption is not available in allcountries. Contact your NIBE dealer for moreinformation.
Smart Price Adaption adjusts the heat pump's consump-tion according to the time of day that electricity pricesare lowest. This allows for savings, provided that thehourly rate subscription has been signed with the elec-tricity supplier.
The function is based on hourly rates for the coming daybeing downloaded via NIBE Uplink. To use the function,an Internet connection and account on NIBE Uplink arenecessary.
SMART HOMEWhen you have a smart home system that can commu-nicate with NIBE Uplink, you can control the installationvia an app by activating the “smart home” function.
By allowing connected units to communicate with NIBEUplink, your heating system becomes a natural part ofyour homesmart home and gives you the opportunityto optimise the operation.
Remember that the “smart home” function requiresNIBE Uplink in order to work.
NIBE SMART ENERGY SOURCE™Smart Energy Source™ prioritises how / towhat extent each docked energy source willbe used. Here you can choose if the system is
to use the energy source that is cheapest at the time. You can also choose if the system is to use the energysource that is most carbon neutral at the time.
