ELECTRIC LOCO SHED, ANGUL

Introduction. ELS/Angul is modern Electric Loco shed of East coast Railway,

commissioned on 08.12.2005 and present holding 105 WAG-7 locomotives only. These locomotives are dedicated to freight traffic and equipped with modern devices as result of technological advancement-static inverter(SIV),microprocessor based fault diagnostic and control system (MPFDCS) and vigilance control devices (VCD),microprocessor based speed cum energy meter (ESMON) and aerodynamic crew friendly cab etc.

Location-

Electric Loco Shed, Angul is situated in midst of Bhubaneswar –Sambalpur Railway route near to Talcher( about 158 KM from Bhubaneswar and 116 KM away from Cuttack) in Khurda Road division of East coast railway.

IMPORTANCE OF SHED

Angul is district head quarter of Odisha state and is hub of the steel industry and famous aluminum company,NALCO are situated here. Talcher is the main centre of coal mines of the Mahanadi basin.ELS/ANGL is dedicated to goods locomotive for transportation of coal, aluminum and steel especially Paradeep port, Damonjodi and visakhapatnam . History of ELS/ANGL

A new loco shed at the Khurda Road for homing 100 locomotive was planned and sent to Railway Board PWP Item No.91/II of 1998-99(of south Eastern Railway),but Railway board have decided convert the DLS/KGP to ELS instead of constructing a new electric loco shed at Khurda Road.

1. Initially Diesel Loco Shed/Angul was sanctioned vide Pink Book item No: 327 of

1991-92 for homing of 50 BG Diesel Locomotives. Diesel Loco Shed/Angul was commissioned on 29.07.1999.

2. Further Railway Board has decided to convert the DLS/ANGL into ELS/ANGL in 2002 for homing capacity 50 Electric Locomotive in year 1999-2000.

3. Later on, Railway board has decided to conversion of DLS/ANGUL (50 Locos) to Electric Loco Shed,Angul in lieu of Kharagpur Diesel Shed conversion.

4. Subsequently ELS/ANGL has commissioned on 08.12.2005 for homing capacity 100 Electric Locomotive.

5. Initially 35 WAG-5 Loco with TAO motor are homed on 1st March 2009 Railway board has decided to home the WAG-7 locomotive with Hitachi TM and accordingly 16 WAG-7 locomotives have been transferred from ELS/BSL to ELS/ANGL.

6. Present holding of ELS/ANGL is 105 WAG-7 locomotives and shortly it will reach 150 WAG-7 locomotives.

7. Augmentation of holding capacity from 100 AC locos to 150 AC locos of ELS/ANGL is now under progress.

ORGANISATION ELS/ANGL is headed by Sr DEE/TRS/ANGL under control of DRM/KUR and organization chart is given below.

Innovation/Loco reliability

(i) Shed is carrying out the blowing of pneumatic pipe line in every IC, AOH &IOH regularly and pneumatic failure of the loco almost become zero.

(ii) Shed has traced out the reason of malfunctioning of MPCS- M/s MEDHA make( in 42 locos) in rainy season and modification (increase to sensing voltage of input card from 25 volt to 60 volts) has been suggested to RDSO for implementation. Accordingly, the same has been implemented by the firm and failure due to conduction voltage reduced to zero.

(iii) QD isolation during the operation of HMCS in MPCS loco has been detected by shed and modification (hardware as well as software)has been suggested to RDSO for further implementation.

(iv) Additional earthing shunts (hood to body, body to bogie and individual equipment ie. MPCS, SIV etc.) has been provided to improve the reliability of electronic equipments resulted improve in loco reliability.

(v) Shed is carrying out the testing and grouping of the helical spring (primary suspension) by computerized testing machine during AOH & IOH to improve the reliability of bogie equipments.

(vi) Series connection of auxiliary interlock(BBC contact) of C-145 has been started to avoid TLTE in case of failure of any auxiliary inter lock(BBC contact).

(vii) 76 No of VCDs have been commissioned so far out of 105 for safety operation of train.

(viii) EXPO-ODISHA-2012: ELS/ANGL had participated in EXPO-ODISHA-2012 exhibition held at NALCO, ANGUL from 9th Jan’12 to 11th Jan’12 organized by Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises.

(ix) About 115 MT of ferrous materials have been disposed during this financial year.
