EDA EDUCATION AND TRAINING
FOR
EDA MEMBERS AND AFFILIATE MEMBERS
REASONS COMPANIES TRAIN THEIR STAFF
• Part of an overall personnel development programme
• Part of succession planning
• Performance appraisal indicates improvement is needed
• Meet legal requirements (Health and Safety, political correctness)
• To acquire a new skill or to keep abreast of new technologies or
legislation
Attract, Develop and Retain talent to improve
customer service and to increase efficiency and
profitability
BENEFITS OF TRAINING STAFF
Increased & Enhanced
• motivation, job satisfaction and morale
• efficiencies in processes, resulting in financial gain
• capacity to innovate and adopt new technologies and methods
• company image
Reduced
• employee turnover,
• risk e.g., sexual harassment, diversity issues, health & safety liabilities
REASONS WHY ELECTRICAL WHOLESALERS TRAIN
THEIR STAFF
Complexity of product offering
• Number of products from a variety of suppliers
• Speed of new product introductions
• Frequent regulation, legislation and standard changes
• Products require high levels of technical support for customers
• New technologies will require move from product to system sales
• Need to offer exceptional technical support to fight online
competition
MORE REASONS WHY ELECTRICAL WHOLESALERS
TRAIN THEIR STAFF
Need to upskill to attract and retain talent
• A relatively unknown industry sector
• Need to offer a development plan to attract good people and retain
and motivate existing staff
• Many young new entrants have no relevant skills when they start
REALLY GOOD REASONS FOR ELECTRICAL
WHOLESALERS TO TRAIN THEIR STAFF

EDA EDUCATION AND TRAINING
AS IMPORTANT TODAY AS IT HAS EVER BEEN
QUOTES FROM APPRENTICES IN 1965
• “….. we are of course motivated by self interest but that self interest is tied up more with a company who is prepared to invest in our future than one that is not”
• “Anyway, the wholesale industry needs properly trained recruits. Even if we move from one company to another, we’re still in wholesaling, which is what everybody wants, …”
