Employment Diagram of Electrical Engineering
Electrical engineers work with electricity in a variety of areas - aircraft and automobiles; broadcasting and communication
systems; lighting and wiring in buildings; machinery controls; power generation and transmission; and radar & navigation
systems. They can be involved with the design of new products as well as testing equipment and solving problems.
Electrical engineering offers a wide range of challenging career paths, including the following sub-disciplines:
“The internet is a trillion-dollar economy.
Energy is a 6-trillion-dollar economy. Energy could be the largestst
economic opportunity of the 21 century”
- John Doerr, Kleiner Perkins Caueld & Byers

Clean energy = Full-time employment. Tens of thousands of Indian citizens are employed by clean energy industries,
directly and indirectly. This is great news for India’s growing population and workforce.
Between 2011 and 2014
full-time jobs were
generated through solar

• With a production of 1,031 TWh, India is the third largest producer and fourth largest consumer of electricity in the world. It has fth largest installed capacity in the world
th• The government targets capacity addition of 88.5 GW under the 12 Five th
Year Plan (2012–17) and around 100 GW under the 13 Five Year Plan (2017–22)
• Investments of around USD 250 billion are planned for the power sector thduring the 12 Five Year Plan
• Target of deploying 5 to 7 million electric vehicles in the country by 2020, Total investment required – INR 20,000 – 23,000 cr (approx 3 billion USD)
• The installed capacity reached 36.5 GW as on October 2015• Wind energy is estimated to contribute 60 GW, followed by solar power at
100 GW by 2022 • The target for renewable energy has been increased to 175 GW by 2022
• 100% FDI is allowed under the automatic route in the power segment and renewable energy
• Implementation of Ujwal DISCOM Assurance Yojana (UDAY) which would enable electrication to all villages and tracking it using the Grameen Vidyutikaran App

Admission trends in IITs and NITs
* In IITs, branches like EC & Electrical are grouped under one department called Electrical Engineering.
1. Job location out of city!
Usually lots of manufacturing and processing units are normally located near the city in GIDC or SEZ area. They required
electrical engineers.
2. Electrical Branch is not suitable for girls!
Girls have more options for government jobs because of girls quota.
3. Limited scope of research and innovation!
Giant electrical goods manufacturing companies like ABB, Schneider, Siemens, Danfoss, Mitsubishi etc… invest money
in various researches where there is need of electrical engineers.
4. Salary offered to an electrical engineer is less!
Various government sectors & reputed companies offer good salary.
5. Less demand (requirement) of electrical engineer!
As we know with the proposal of different policies & schemes by different ministries of India, there will be a huge demand
of electrical engineers.
Myths v/s. Facts about Electrical Engineering
World without Electrical Engineers
In previous era,
human required three basic thing to survive his life;
air, water, food but
scenario is changed and assume human life without electricity.
