EMISSION (INELASTIC SCATTERING): MAIN BEAM ELECTRONS TRANSFER ENERGY TO ORBITTING ELECRONS RESULTING IN EMISSION OF SECONDARY ELECTRONS. THIS LEADS TO PRODUCTION OF X-RAYS AND PHOTONS

DIFFRACTION: THIS TAKES PLACE IN CRYSTALLINE SAMPLES BECAUSE THEY CAUSE ELECTRON SCATTERING TO VARIOUS DIRECTIONS
