Obituary

Juanita Rushia McQueen Lassiter Jackson was born December 17, 1918 in Haw Branch, North Carolina. She was born to Mattie McQueen and Dude Martindale. She was raised by her grandmother, Ella McQueen.

Juanita left Cameron, North Carolina, for New York around the age of nineteen and stayed in the Northeast for over 40 years. Her job as a

seamstress spanned over her lifetime. She returned to North Carolina in 1977, where she resumed her seamstress career. In her late seventies, Juanita decided it was time for a career change! She wanted to get her GED in order to become a CNA. At the age of 80, she obtained her GED from Sandhills Community College in 1998. She then started working as a nursing assistant at Pine Lake Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carthage, NC. She worked there until the age of 90.

Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, Vadie Lassiter; her son, Clark Lassiter; and two brothers, John Lee Mutunga and Leo McQueen.

She leaves to mourn one daughter, Scherron Rushia Lytch; ten grandchildren, and they are: William Tyson, Derrick Lassiter, Edwin Lassiter, Greg Lassiter, Joseph Lassiter, Andre Lassiter, Aprill Lassiter, Arlitha (Shelly) Lassiter, Corey Lytch, and Kendra Lytch. She has sixteen greatgrandchildren; one niece, Alice Alston, and a host of relatives and friends.

Juanita departed this life on October 6, 2019. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. May she rest in peace.
