Enough with this cold winter weather; it’s not working for us, so I’m officially welcoming

springtime to Eldorado, I don’t care what that varmint saw in Punxsutawney. March is here

and so is springtime, which boggles me a little to think how quickly this year is moving. We

just crowned the Eagles as Super Bowl Champions and now we’re into March Madness and

spring training. We are moving fast at the Club as well. We have a lot of activity within the

Tennis and Golf Associations with tournaments and league play starting. So work on your

practice drills to be ready for your next event. Around the Club we are seeing

improvements this month. We are expecting the new exercise equipment to be set up in

the gym, along with improved Wi-Fi networks so we can all stay connected. Also, make

sure you check out the Eldorado App.

Eldorado has plenty of social events planned to fill those 31 days until Easter Sunday, so be

sure to review the Club’s and your association events calendar and participate. If you’re

taking a holiday during Spring Break, safe travels to you and yours. We look forward to

hearing your stories upon return. Let’s make a date on St. Patrick’s Day at the Club when

every one can share a story or two. Let me finish by offering an Irish blessing for all:

May you always have walls for the winds,

a roof for the rain, tea beside the fire,

laughter to cheer you, those you love near you,

and all your heart might desire.

Have a great March and see you around the Club!

Mike Wallace

The Ambassador Committee wants to help you make the most of your experience at

Eldorado Country Club – have you taken advantage of the special events that are available

to new Members?

We host Welcome events, Sunday brunches, dinners and other social and sporting events

throughout the year, and we invite you to join us for these fun opportunities to get to

know your fellow Eldorado Members and enjoy some of the fantastic amenities at

Eldorado. Stay tuned for news from the Club and your Ambassadors!

If you have been unable to attend some of the events you were invited

to since joining Eldorado, we would love to see you at our next event!

Come meet other new Members, visit with our Ambassador group,

and make some new friends. “It’s all Here!” at Eldorado and our

Ambassadors want to help you find what you are looking for at

LETTER FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER

Dear Members – Does anyone remember the months of January and February 2017? The weather was

fairly warm, not much rain, and both the golf course and dining area were full with happy Members that

were content to get a reprieve from a “normal” Dallas winter. Fast forward to the same months of

2018 and our fortunes have been reversed. While we have been spared the snow and ice that many

other areas of Texas has received early in the year, we still have been closed on the golf course for a

total of over two weeks due to cold, frost and unrelenting rain. As I write this, we have already

received 7+ inches of rain this week and it’s not over yet.

Inclement weather and human nature leads many of our Members to decide that it’s just not even

worth going out of the house when it is so dreary outside. People decide they would rather avoid the

roads, avoid getting wet during the walk to the Club entrance from the parked car and figure that a

good book on the couch might be the best solution to get them through till the next sunny and warm

day. Given this, it might not surprise you to learn that inclement weather actually effects our evening

activities by almost 50 percent. It is, of course, understandable that without the golf course open that

we will slow during lunch but it’s sad to see the normally bustling Sports Grill so slow during the

evening.

So – what’s the point to all this? The point is – DON’T LET THE WINTER BLUES GET YOU

DOWN!! Come out to the Club and meet with your friends and fellow Club Members. Have a drink,

enjoy a turn at karaoke on Saturday night, try out the new menu or join us for a couple of our

upcoming March events including:

Glow Ball – Friday, March 9

Member Appreciation with a March Madness theme – Thursday, March 15

St. Patrick’s Day & Dinner with Chef – Saturday, March 17

Kids Club Magic Night – Tuesday, March 20

Murder Mystery Dinner with a 50’s Sock Hop theme – Friday, March 23

Good Friday Fish Fry – Friday, March 30

Breakfast with the Easter Bunny – Saturday, March 31

Easter Brunch – Sunday, April 1

It is absolutely going to be a fun filled month with something for everyone and we

want YOU to be a part of it. Winter go away and warm up with some

camaraderie, food, fun and maybe a drink or two. Bring your friends, invite

potential prospects and let’s make 2018 great! After all, the year is almost 25

percent over!! Thank you for your loyalty and dedication to Eldorado.

See you at the Club!

Chris Stewart

NEWS FROM THE GOLF SHOP

With February in the books, we look forward to putting winter weather to bed, and getting ready to swing into Spring!

We expect this to be a great month here at Eldorado Country Club! As we get into spring, that means that all golf events

and associations are starting to get going again. Please make sure you are familiar with Golf Genius so you can sign up to

participate in all the fun we have in store. If you have questions, please call or stop by the Pro Shop for assistance.

As we get into golf season, it’s a good time to remind all members to first always check into the Pro Shop before the

start of your round and be sure to register your cart number. We expect all Members to play at a pace of at least 4

hours and 10 minutes, but if the pace is faster than that we expect you to keep up with the group ahead of you. Please

make sure you are abiding by the policies and procedures of the Club. We need all Members to respect the rules set

forth. One more reminder is that we are currently doing putter fittings on the SAM PUTT LAB here in the Pro Shop, and

doing club fittings with our loft and lie machine. Now is a great time to make sure your equipment is right for you. Please

contact the Pro Shop for more information.

Spring Warm-Up!

Now that spring is upon us and the warm weather will be returning to our area, it’s that time of year to dust off the clubs and get back onto

the practice area and rehearse those fundamentals. Fundamentals are perhaps the most important area of the golf swing for beginners and are

even more important for the tour pros. Remember the acronym GAP. Those are our fundamentals. It stands for Grip, Alignment and Posture.

The most important factor when it comes to grip is that the left hand is holding the club in the fingers. Too often I see amateurs that have their

grip too much in the palm of the left hand. This will rob the player of distance and control. To get the proper left hand grip, place the club off

your left foot with the grip behind your body. When you let your hand hold the club from this position you will notice that you will be holding

the grip in the fingers of your left hand. Now you can bring the club in front of you and place your right hand on the club. Make sure that the

life line of your right hand sits comfortably over your left thumb. You should also notice that the v’s formed by your thumb and forefinger are

pointing at your right shoulder. Now that you know how to grip the club correctly, your posture will be extremely important for allowing your

body to turn correctly and produce a lot of power. To set up with the proper posture, follow these steps:

1. Stand straight up with your arms and club extended in front of you

2. Look down between your arms and bend your knees until you can’t see your shoelaces

3. Drop your arms to your chest. The club should be a foot or so off the ground

4. Keeping your back straight, bend from the hips until the club touches the ground.

You have now set your body up in the proper position to allow it to turn correctly in the swing.

Finally, it is important to set up your body aimed at the target. Not rarely do I see our tour players practice without a club laying on the ground

to aid in their alignment. Very rarely, in fact, do I see amateurs use this drill to aid them in their practice. First, understand that we will lay a

club aimed directly at our target. Next place a club parallel to that club, but more along your feet line. Set up in this position and double check

that your hips and shoulders are parallel with the club on the ground. You can now remove the first club and be confident that your alignment

will be aimed square to the target.

Fundamentals are the most important areas of the golf swing, and setup is crucial to being consistent. Do not forget about the acronym GAP

and use it on the practice tee. Starting with the proper fundamentals will allow your swing to happen more naturally and will allow you to be

ahead of your playing partners on the weekend.

Keep ‘em Long and Straight,

With spring just around the corner, the course will begin to break dormancy and start getting green.

As I write this, many of the greens have already begun to do so. The green grass is a welcome sight

after looking at dormant turf throughout the winter. This winter has been extremely mild with lots

of rain and plenty of nice golfing days, and the course has received a lot of play. We will be extra

cautious going forward of any night time temperatures forecasted close to freezing in the coming

weeks to protect the grass coming out of dormancy. However, just because the turf is green does

not mean that it is actively growing. In most cases our course does not start actively growing until the night time

temperatures start averaging in the mid sixties. So as we begin to transition this month, let us keep in mind that the turf,

albeit green, may not be actively growing till mid April.

To handle our turf transition as we come out of the winter and into the spring, limiting excess turf traffic during the time

period of transition will go a long way to improving the overall health of the turf for the entire year. For that reason, we

have developed a “fairway closure rotation” to help with the overall long term turf health. Below I have outlined our plan

for this procedure during the months of March, April and May. We feel that this no cost procedure will be extremely

helpful in providing you with the best experience possible for the entire year.

Par 3’s on the Course will remain cart path only 100% of the time. These holes include #5, 7 and 16.

Several holes have features that should not require any closing (weather permitting) throughout the transition period. These holes include #1, 2, 6, 10 and 11. We will explore the feasibility of setting up a rotating set of “entrances and

exits” on these holes to help prevent wear patterns.

With the exclusion of the holes above, this means that 10 holes are adversely impacted enough during the transition

months due to carts on the fairways that we should implement a rotation system. These holes include #3, 4, 8, 9, 12,

13, 14, 15, 17 and 18.

Proposed Plan:

Holes 3, 13 and 18 are closed to carts on the fairway from March 5 – March 18

Holes 4, 9 and 14 are closed to carts on the fairway from March 19 – April 1

Holes 8, 12 and 15 are closed to carts on the fairway from April 2 – April 15

Hole 17 is closed to carts on the fairway from April 16 – May 13

After May 13, all holes (except Par 3’s) will be available for cart use on the fairway unless weather or turf condition

dictate otherwise.

In 2019, hole rotation will start again in early March with adjustments made given the previous year of experience.

Please note:

The above dates can be adjusted based on status of our winter to spring transition.

Hole 17 is scheduled extra by itself as we know that hole is most at risk to accumulate additional damage due to

fairway width.

Thank you in advance for you cooperation.

Hello tennis players,

Hopefully we are due up for some better weather so we can

get the spring season underway, but we have been busy in the

tennis shop getting ready for the new year. The Men's Davis

Cup event has been moving along well with Gleneagles,

Stonebridge and Stonebriar, and TEAM Eldorado won their first match, but

all in all it’s just a great event for some inter-club camaraderie. The ladies

Spring TCD season is underway so things will be back to

normal on Thursdays. Good Luck Ladies! Many new

updates are on the way this spring as well, but we will let

those be a surprise as part of a continual process of

updating the shop and facility.

See ya on the courts!

Some EWTA ladies spent some time in Las Vegas this past month relaxing, and also

took time out to play tennis for several days! Beautiful scenery and court access is

only 3 miles from the strip. Pro Zee gave some pointers and concentrated on

STRATEGY. Something we could all use more of when we face our opponents this

spring!

The best tip of all? Every shot is how you meant it to go! Never let your opponent

think it was a bad or unintended shot. Now that is hard to do, but we sure gave it a

try, and you will find us on the courts saying, “Wow, that was a great shot.”

The second best tip? When playing doubles, act as if every ball is yours, and call it

such! Back up your teammate and be prepared to hit the ball every time. It took

some getting used to, but it sure makes sense.

March 20 – Happy Hour @ 6:30-8:30pm – come join us and meet us! Casual

Happy Hour in the Grill and we will have prizes and $3 drink specials. Great time to

meet some ladies even if you don’t play tennis!

Happy Birthday to these ladies!!

We have thoroughly enjoyed having several local artists

hang their work in our hallways, and we will continue

to have them participate at Eldorado, with new art

arriving March 10!

Featured Artists & their work:

Kimberley Guthrie—Mixed Media Artist

New to the McKinney, TX area, Guthrie portrays a

“tongue in cheek” approach to humor with the

characters she creates. While previously known for her

intricate Fresco Style murals, she currently focuses her

creativity on whimsically themed oil paintings and new

techniques for portraiture. Also a particular love is

creating 3 dimensional works using Paper Mache.

“Versatility applying to genre and style is my nature,

creating intuitively when inspiration strikes. I strive for

less “hoity toidy” in art and more fun! I'm thinking that’s

how life should be as well.”

Anne Royer—featuring “Spring Thaw”

This piece is from a new collection of paintings by Anne

Royer, and explores form and color using artist-grade

aerosol paints (Plutonium ™) on a synthetic paper

( Yupo ™). All natural and man-made forms came from

Anne's garden, and were used to block the paint,

thereby building shapes from the negative spaces of the

forms. Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons” inspired the entire

collection and gives it thematic continuity. From the

thaw of early spring to the snowy night of winter

solstice, the artwork corresponds to Vivaldi’s musical

description of the seasons.

Bradley Donaldson—”Criss Crossed Squared”

"Criss-Cross Squared", acrylic paint, metallic pigment,

texture mixed with epoxy resin on a wood panel. This

is the second painting in a series that explores and then

pushes the boundaries of working with epoxy

resin. Resin is a poured median and difficult to control

in most instances. Getting a geometric pattern filled

with vibrant colors makes this piece amazing!

The Eldorado Ladies Association will meet

Tuesday, March 6 at the Club. Please join us

for lunch, which is served at 11:30am. The

program will be presented by The Texas

Storm Chasers. They will provide a power

point to illustrate the story as a storm

chaser and severe weather tips and

information for our spring season. The cost

of lunch for Members is $15, and $20 for

non-members. Reservations are required.

Please make your reservation by calling

Hope to see you there!
