We don’t try to explore the limits of the romantic correspondence or to demonstrate the spiritual importance of detachment.

Our action is not more important than any works.

We didn’t wish to invite you to share our private life, but to discuss our experiences.

This passion situated between creative energy and rush, we don’t know if we can pass you on the idea.

Would this feeling be the main theme of this exhibition?

Introduction

After their first meeting, Lise announced to Cyril that she had to leave for a month.

Then the classical SMS started :

- “What a pity we couldn’t get to know each other better!”

- “I don’t know when we will meet again?”

- “We’ll see?”

A few days and messages later, Lise 2 appears, Cyril 3 then 6. Each pseudo allows them to reveal an aspect of their personality, to take another voice, another mask to tell their own truth.

Cyril 3 is afraid of love. Cyril 4 would like a physical meeting. Lise 2 wants to remain single. Lise 5 is jealous of Lise 7 and so on. From a meeting to another, we learn.

Beyond a schizophrenic game, it’s a way to guard against them-selves. Lise and Cyril exhibit like this their desires, fears and ideas.This relationship is for them a daily exchange, each of them wait the answer of the other whatever the form it may take, a mes-sage, a photo, a video, a drawing or even a web page to visit.

The culmination of this translation process is the creation oft he couple and entity Ela & Dimitri.

They have been corresponding by SMS for a month. They never talked, never met, but Ela & Dimitri are developping a creative love a�air.

Their exchanges enable instantaneity and sublimate their first meeting in a hotel where they will experiment love and creativity, but will never approach each other.

Then, they plan a meeting and agree on a place: the restaurant “L‘insolite”.

They still have 7 days to discuss about it and imagine all the possible scenarios.

PITCHThe Pitch presents the story of Ela & Dimitri.

The Pitch dispatches the audience in a role of active witness of the non-drama that will follow.

Indeed, dear Reader, nothing can be done without you because if you don’t read, you don’t wait. If you don’t wait, you don’t make the appointment. If you don’t make the appointment, there is no appointment. If there is no appointment, Ela & Dimitri don’t meet, so you don’t meet them, you don’t meet the meeting, and you stay home, alone, thinking about us. In short, this play clearly proves – and the producers know it well – that it is much better to come to read the Pitch, and go down in history !

But why call the work like this?

People better understand films, hence the Pitch.

For Ela & Dimitri SMS make the reality more desirable and contribute to their common creation.

Little by little, on their touch-sensitive screen, they polish their poetical texts, digital haïkus, clues and real artistic intentions that aim to state and combine in hypertext way, the key moments of their history. From this exchange handled with four hands, all kind of works were taken out this Pandora’s box – briefs discussions transfor-med into hanging pictures, the pictures-screens, ideas perfor-mance, photo montage… all those works keep on chating to-gether afterwards in an endless online conversation…

I think that we spend too much time on SMS!

TOGETHERInstallation.

Two photos B&W, foam-backed on dibond 150 x 100 cm hanged face to face.

Ela & Dimitri like Simone de Beauvoir and Nelson Algren share not only their taste for intellectual activities but also for “contingent” loves. Our artists make time through photos so as to leave for a still trip.

Becomes lighter for the other. Here, two pictures are hanged like on a yarn. It’s a particularly risky situation to avoid a physical meeting. Each of us immerses itself in the search of the other in a possible spiritual realization of the place where he could be.

What do Ela & Dimitri see, lying down, alone, watching phantas-magorias falling down the ceiling? “a sword of Damocles above their head” ? the inevitable possibility of a failure? An avalanche of angels of light coming from the seventh heaven?

2 bedrooms, the one beside the other for more intensity.

They arranged a meeting in a hotel in two neighbouring rooms.

Ela & Dimitri share photos via SMS to dive together into the absence of the other and peak Together..

In Sublimation, the photos taken with a smart phone reply to each other and feed each other such as a visual conversation.They put together the presence of the other in its speech and refuse the principle of Bakhtine where the answer continually anticipate the request.

On the sides of the photos, a grey and green edging looking like rubalise material, protects and defines the limits of the sacred territory of the meeing in the work …

Ela & Dimitri invite the audience for a meeting at the L’Insolite via an anonymous SMS.

They take up the codes of the billsticking, this false advertise-ment shows a poetical, romantic, enigmatic relationship between two persons. It does’t sell the telephone, but a free meeting that may be will not take place,– who can beat that?

This SMS refers to the numerous poems written by Louis Aragon “Rendez-vous manqués”.

It seems to be an ad for Nokia, don’t you think?

So it’s an ad for Apple!

No, it’s an iPhone.

You are right.

WAITINGMental projection of Ela.

Multidisciplinary installation.

Ela’s insomnia keeps us wide awake and make Dimitri alive in her. The Wainting works on this imaginary construction of this meeting.

In this third act, the bed is carefully recovered so as to preserve its essence, beginnings of a long loving conversation. Will Dimitri receive this message?

Such as a night vision system, the green light let appear the dark-ness of soul under Ela’s bed, while the light of heaven invites her to make an appointment with herself.

The Waiting is this moment between two worlds, half-way be-tween myth and reality, back and front, the private and the pub-lic, tradition and progress.

This scene is a freeze frame where all the synonyms of the Wait-ing are present, proving a mental process to reach the ultimate decision.

Its flight like a thumb’s nose to death, open a route to reality and creation. An unknown territory, where two words marry to become a whole.

Love to create / create to love.

It lacks sex.

RUMORSItinerary during the 7 days before their meeting.

Video 7 min + echoing room.

They follow the same itineraries to inexorably get closer to the conclusion. Just like Sophie Calle and Greg Shepard in No sex last night, Ela & Dimitri have their own smart phone that allows them to film and comment their “trip”.

Rumors is composed of 7 sequences of one minute each, repre-senting the moment they search for each other in the streets, with the by-standers as witnesses. A sounding illustration, mixed in a subliminal way with the incidental usual music of L’Insolite : “Easy-listening” habituelle de L’Insolite, ” completes the video : external huhhub, jingles sounding like SMS sounds, Ela & Dimitri whispered as if the rumor concerning their arrival was an excuse for a deconstructive approach of the exhibition. The rumor of hope concerning their arrival changes depending on the inter-pretation of the receiver and bring elements to the history.

LOVE 2.0Seduction simulator.

Interactive installation.

During the exhibition, the artists play Ela & Dimitri. The participants shoud try to guess if they are in front of humans or softwares.

At the bar of L’Insolite, on a dedicated terminal, you can play Love 2.0, an artificial intelligence software that simulates the personnality and mood of a person in a seduction process, and displays the level of interest, frustration and stress.

We’ll play it again, ok? ;-)

THE COCKTAILTo read in Ela’s thoughts.

Anamorphose.Silver-plated glass, green colouring, drawing.

The Cocktail is a trompe-l’œil and in the bottom a question on the perception of the other. Here are the ingredients to drink to your heart’s content.

Take the ludic side of the question asked by Dimitr “Is it a game?” in the SMS.Then, take a cocktail glass and without drinking the content, use it as a distorting mirror.Pour a green and florescent liquid (the glass should be half full) that reminds you the messages of Ela, and anamorphose it du-ring 30 seconds.It’s ready, you can now see yourself… not in it but all around !

It’s time to rise the curtain, but Ela is a bit late I think, or is it Dimitri who is stuck somewhere in the work?

Here the SMS have lost their “digital” aesthetics and are realized on the canvas of the painter in a more traditionnal way in 4 pic-tures that decorate the dining-room of L’Insolite. Each picture could express an answer itself or even a question or an assertion. The language is used as raw material, without artifice. The letters are arranged and appears in their sheer simplicity such as a hyper realistic collage in the middle of a china shop.

Patrick and Nadia, simple spectators,share our boredom, our fascination or annoyance but through this work, they try to get the bottom of their impressions, their attitude to TV. They ex-tract beauty and universal. They invite us to distance ourselves from the spell of the screen, they make us see the world and its images differently.

Lise Couzinier and Cyril Slucki wish to bring up the intemporal

and omnipresent aspect of love. The plays are organized like

sequences that suggest a real love affair, where Ela & Dimitri get over the narrative barrier. This is the environment proposed

to the audience, to which it can react.

In transmedia Love puts in a prominent place the creative thin-

king avoiding the restriction to a unique field of arts.

In this sense, this concept refers to Dick Higgins who criticizes

the imprisonment of artists in essentialist categories, linked to

mediums and makes no difference between the medias of life

and art.
